Directed by Oliver Hirschbiegel

Genre: Thriller

Tagline: Do not trust anyone. Do not show emotion. Do not fall asleep.

Plot Outline: A mysterious epidemic is sweeping the world, but it takes one Washington DC psychiatrist to discover that the disease is extraterrestrial in origin. When her son becomes infected, she and a colleague must work together to find a cure, before the entire world is lost.

Starring: Nicole Kidman, Daniel Craig, Jeremy Northam and Jackson Bond.

Rated PG-13 for violence, disturbing images and terror.

I think it looks pretty interesting. The trailers didn't give away too much, which is a good thing and the cast is very good. I will be seeing this after I see Superbad.

I'm really interested in this and have been since the beginning, but can't help but feel the slightest bit skeptical.

It is always a bad thing when a film's director doesn't even direct the whole thing. And in this case, Warner Brothers, a studio I usually really like, hired V for Vendetta helmer James McTeague to "spice up" Oliver Hirschbiegel's supposedly dramatic, psychological and claustrophobic sci-fi horror piece. Why is this that bad? Because it means that A) either something was wrong with Oliver Hirschbiegel's version or B) the studio bosses made a mistake and now some scenes will feel completely different than others and disconnected from the overall tone of the picture. Either way I think that something will seem a little wrong with the picture. And I saw this clip of the film - a car chase - on MTV that is so obviously not directed by Oliver Hirschbiegel that it's worrying.

I do agree, though, that the mystery keep-things-in-the-dark aspect of the advertising for the film works to its advantage as I am certainly interested in it, and the cast - Kidman and Craig - will definitely get my seat in the theatre filled. Can't wait to see them together on screen again in December's The Golden Compass - now THAT'S a movie I'm anticipating.

So I don't know what to think about this one. I'll wait to see the critic reviews and what the Schmoes here think about it, but I am, as of now, still intrigued. I'll probably check this out.

the studio meddleing has made me very wary of this and any initial interest i might of had mostly went quite a while ago, having said that the meddleing has made me interested in it for other reasons. i'll have to wait to see what the reviews are like before deciding whether to go and see it

Is it just me or does Nicole Kidman no longer resemble Nicole Kidman any longer? Her face is totally different , remember her in Dead Calm? I mean yes it was a long time ago but the structure of her cheek bones and her nose and eyebrows are way different..she looks not nearly as pretty as she used to , IMHO.

Agreed.

And to quote a reviewer:

"Invasion of the Body Snatchers. The remakes of Invasion of the Body Snatchers. The clones of the remakes of Invasion of the Body Snatchers: The Puppet Masters, The Thing.... The Stephen King book based movie, that was just another version of Invasion of the Body Snatchers.

How many times are we expected to see this film?"

I may see this though. But early on the weekend for cheap. I'm not spending over $10 for something I'm iffy about.

I feel the same way. I'm concerned by the fact that the WB hired James McTeague to alter Oliver Hirschbiegel's film. Prior to reading about WB's decision to do this a couple of months ago, I was excited about The Invasion, mostly because of Hirschbiegel, who directed one of 2005's best films in Downfall.

I'm still seeing The Invasion, but am I excited? No.

I'm sick of the remakes/rip-offs of Invasion of the Body Snatchers (although the first remake was far superior to the original). I'll probably be seeing this at some point, since it was half-directed by a guy who's previously made a good film about real soulless, invading fascists with Downfall.

I'm looking forward to seeing this because I loved the trailer. My hopes are in-check because of the reshoots, however.

Don't forget the film The Faculty, Dean Koontz' novel The Taking and Robin Cook's novel Invasion.

Looks like ripoffs are worse than sequels, prequels and remakes.

Oh hey ook Daniel Craig is in this movie.

Yeah, James Bond.

Highest paid British actor alive.

You'd think they would advertise him more.

I'm not going to see this in theaters because I quite frankly do not like the idea of firing one director and bringing another in to "spice it up." Reminds me too much of Superman II.

I noticed that too.

In the TV spots they don't even show his face or say his name. I mean honestly Nicole Kidman hasn't even done much lately. Can't even remember the last hit movie she had.

Maybe the new director edited him out of the movie?

I think it's because.......

SPECULATION SPOILER

.....he becomes infected very early on. I think they gave it a way a little because he does have a voice over in one of the commercials where he says something very sinister and menacing towards Kidman's character.

Better than anticipated. I don't understand the negative buzz though. It felt a bit choppy, maybe some scenes left on the editing room floor?? The cast was pretty good. I wish they would have been more in depth with the aliens and their reasons for takeover though. I enjoyed this for a Kidman flick.

I'll be checking it out, but I'm not expecting great things. Craig, Wright and Northam are terrific actors, and it's nice that Veronica Cartwright has a role in this one. I'm just wondering how well the "action reshoots" fit in with the rest of the film. Might wait for the dvd depending on reviews.

6/10

The performances were bland and the movie seemed unnecessary because it really didn't add anything new to the genre.

However, there were one or two scary scenes, but other than that just average.

First things first Nicole Kidman looks amazing in her pajamas !!!
The Invasion is not as bad as i thought it would be.There are some genuine scares, but the film suffers from identity crisis. Is it a sci fi thriller or a political piece ??? I ended up laughing at scenes that were supposed to be serious.A tip: anyone who cant tolerate projectile vomiting should stay away from this flick.
Scale of 1-10 a 6

A total pass for me, this means I'll avoid it in theaters, AND in dvd form.

Invasion of the Body Snatchers, the 1956 is still the best, and forever shall be.

The 78 Invasion is better than the original in a lot of ways including a far more satasfying ending.

not as bad as i was expecting, the acting is mostly good, there was some nice direction in places and it moved at a nice pace but sadly the one thing i was definitely expecting about this film did happen and that was the puke worthy happy ending

5/10

i'm going to have to buy the recent SE of the '78 version (easily the best one) which also has one of the best movie endings ever

A pretty tense thriller with a good message on the sad, but necessary evils of humanity with an excellent performance by Nicole.

Some unintentionally funny moments include a first person shooter sequence that made me feel like I was playing DOOM as Nicole Kidman, a remarkably predictable "twist," and an insulting of the audience intelligence monologue where they feel the need to bring back a speech from 45 minutes ago to beat the message into our heads as though we're too stupid to get it (though sadly I wouldn't be surprised if much of the American public actually does require that to understand most films).
Overall a solid film that wasn't nearly as choppy and convulted as expected considering near 80% of it had to be reshot.
Much better than the other more shit than meets the eye alien invasion movie this summer.

I enjoyed the Sutherland version more than the '56 version. Thats a personal opinion though.

I took a risk on the movie, thinking it will be hit or miss, and i didnt really care for it. The little things in the movie kind made me upset than the usual flaws the movie had. Daniel Craig shouldnt of stooped to this low. Bond 22 and I. Lucifer fit him so much better, he would be a kick ass Lucifer.

Not as big of a disaster as the reviews made it out to be, but the general consensus that this film shows bright spots of potential that make the confuddled mess surrounding it all the more displeasing is spot on. I probably would've liked it more with a different cast as well, Nicole Kidman over acted her role and I never really cared about her, her son, or 007. Still, there were a few good, even great, scenes and ideas, but the final replay of the films overall message (we get it) left a bad taste in my mouth as the credit rolled.

The Invasion - 6/10

I think the reason that this got such low ratings is that people had way too high expectations, due to the actors, director etc. and that is reasonable because these people are all known for very good work in the film business. The Invasion is an entertaining, well-acted, decently directed, yet slightly messy film that is basically just another movie. There's nothing spectacular or new about it. You just have to go into this movie with the expectation of a normal B-movie sci-fi thriller. I was entertained throughout, my only real complaint being that it was messy and not edited very well which would be do to the extensive re-shoots that occurred in the proccess of making this film. If you're looking for entertainment, this is definitely worth a try.
