this has been ranted to death, i know, but holy shit I just bought a bunch of new dvd's and all of them, had some sticky residue left over on the case...here just watch this...
VIDEO RANT THAT SAYS IT BETTER THAN I CAN (http://youtube.com/watch?v=bN6fxqvGBSs)
I actually have a bottle opener that I use to cut open the stickers on these things....
and while I'm at it...
I hate the big fucking plastic cases around some of the dvd's at hastings...they're so random, like a 20 dollar movie that's a decade old has the big box around it and the 40 dollar season of some tv show that just came out has only the normal packageing...it's random, and theres always some moron at the check out who cant open the cases to get the dvd out...what the hell?

Those cases locks are magnetic and tell you get the hang of opening them they are a major pain in the ass, at least they were at blockbuster when I worked there. I had a customer cure me of that my 3rd day as he bought 70 previously viewed movies and I had to open them all, that was the last time I struggled with openign those cases.
I always hate the sticker residue too, use hairspray and a blow dryer to remove the residue. Don't use the blow dryer for too long as you can melt the plastic though.

You can also add CDs to this mix.
I hate buying a dvd, getting it in mint and then trying to open the goddamn thing without warping the plastic of the dvd cover.
First you have the plastic you take off the cover itself...then it's that goddamn white stripes at the top and side and sometimes bottom...I swear to god they must use the strongest glue in the world for those...you end up spending about 20 minutes trying to open your dvd and by the time you do you just want to fling the damn thing.
CDs are like this too...and usually I end up cracking them.. :(

For the strips, I'm telling you just cutting them down the middle and then peeling off the halves is way easier...
I posted another rant awhile ago on this...I HATE those stupid security black plastic rectangles on the inside of some dvds...it's like I essentially break into fort Knox and then theres some duct-tape all over my bars of gold...I hate doing all that work to get into my dvd and then seeing that...it's like a horror movie where the killer comes back
"Yes! I finally got it open, now I---wait? What's with this fuckin rectangle!? Fuck that thing!"

I once watched this guy get mad with those stickers. He yelled "Fuck it!!" and went for a knife. He slit the the tape and opened it up, only to discover that he cut all four sides in anger as the cover fell out of the cut plastic in two pieces. God I laughed at him.

For those of you that get caught with the sticker residue. Use the stickiness of the security sticker you removed to lift up the remaining residue. Works like a charm.
If you get a particularly stubborn one, I second Goo-Gone

That is my strategy, but I had this SOB today that it wouldnt work on. Did absolutly nothing. I had to whip out the extra strenght goo-gone stuff.

I hate opening dvds myself. My wife works at TARGET where she buys most of our dvds there. The guy that works in the dvd section told her if she wanted any dvds that he would not shrinkwrap them for us. JUst let him know which ones we wanted.
I didn't even know that they did that at the store. I thought it came from the factory. When they shrinkwrap them, the plastic cover for the cover art gets messed up on the title edge.
