Double indie play for Gordon-Levitt

LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - Former "3rd Rock From the Sun" actor Joseph Gordon-Levitt has booked starring roles in back-to-back indie features.

First up is "Uncertainty," which is shooting in New York. The story revolves around a young couple faced with having to make an important decision, and the film is split into two versions of the same Fourth of July holiday, presenting a new series of unexpected choices the characters make.

It comes from filmmakers David Siegel and Scott McGehee ("The Deep End").

Gordon-Levitt then will hop to "The Frog King," a coming-of-age comedy-drama due to start production in the fall. He will play an educated wannabe writer slaving away as a peon at a New York publishing house. The one bright spot in his life is his girlfriend, whom he loses and then has to win back.

Darren Star ("Sex and the City") will direct.

Gordon-Levitt's indie credits include "Mysterious Skin," "Brick" and "The Lookout."

I really like him as an actor, and I think he is going about it the right way in terms of trying to shed that Hollywood kid persona. Starring in a lot of different indie films is great, and you can tell by his performances that he is developing into a great actor who will some day be a mainstream movie star.

Does anyone know when his movie Killshot is going to be released? I saw a trailer for it awhile ago, but nothing since.

Yeah, what more is there to say about this dynamic actor? He's ahead of the game already. He's smarter than actors who have been in the acting game longer than he has. He picks his roles carefully and he never gives a bad performance. I always knew he had something even when he was on Third Rock from the Sun... he was just as funny as John Lithgow on the show. That said a lot to me then.

I wasn't surprised when he chose all these great roles. I have to work with him in the future when I get my own thing going with film... he seems like he would be fun to work with and puts a lot into his craft.

The guy has impressed me with several performances; though it is taking a while for the guy to "break out" into the mainstream.

Seems like I've been watching this guy my whole life. Hopefully he'll keep his recent momentum rolling.

He's taking his time. Nothing wrong with that.

I'd like to know too. Last year, it seems like the trailer was on every DVD I watched. I'm looking forward to this one.

Yeah, Kill Shot looks so awesome.

I can't wait to see The Lookout. It just came out on dvd today so I'll FINALLY be able to see it within the next few days.

BTW, shouldn't this be in the upcoming movies section rather than the celebrity talk/gossip section?

That's another two movies to add to the "To Watch list" by the looks of it - though knowing my look they'll be released onto R1 dvd before anyone thinks of releasing 'em over here in Blightyland.

He's a great actor (i loved Brick and Mysterious Skin, didn't think much of The Lookout though) and both of these movies sound interesting.

He's pretty annoying in Havoc.

He blew me away in Mysterious Skin and he was good in Brick...Lookout was only decent but he was solid in it.

I definitely agree with everyone else above, he's one of the best upcoming actors today...interesting to see that he's continuing to do smaller, indie films rather than something big and mainstream.

I got to say. He is on a role with his choices of girl friends so far.
