A Variety of Crap that bothers me

Since this is a rant forum, I'm going to rant about certain things that bother the hell out of me...


1. If you live in Montreal, you may have seen "Pulse News" at 11:30 each weeknight. On it, the anchorwoman is a woman named Debrah Arbec. This woman, since she has started has never ever had a flawless newscast. Her segment is usually 20 minutes (local news, world news, etc) and then it goes to sports....

This woman has a tendency to fumble her words. Now I can understand this happening every once in a while, no one's perfect...but this woman is guaranteed to screw some phrase or word up every broadcast. Sometimes she does it multiple times a minute!!!

Why hasn't anyone pulled her aside and told her to take her time? To speak clearly and not rush so much? If you ever visit Montreal, turn to the news at 1130 (on CTV) and you'll see her in action. I can't stand her.

2. No more "shakey cams" in a movie please. It adds nothing to your movie Mr. Hot Shot action director. It TAKES away from the moviegoers' enjoyment of the film. The latest Bourne movie was almost ruined for me because of this. It does not mean "awesome action".

3. Why does Rosie O'Donnell exist?

4. Why does Kelly Ripa exist?

5. Why doesn't anyone blow up the set of the View? Hopefully with them on it?

6. Why do shows show the evils of speeding....then show commercials of cars driving like crazy all over the road?

7. Madonna is an asshole.

8. Can we revoke Cuba Gooding Jr's Oscar?

I cant back you on only two of these counts. I dont live in Montreal so I dont know who your talking about. These second being the Bourne movie. I actually think Greengrass is the only director around who shoots shakey cam well. Everyone seems to try it, but it vibes with me when he does it.

I agree; I thought the shaky cam enhanced the experience. Didn't bother me one bit.

I wouldn't have even known the movie was in Shakey Cam if this board hadn't of mentioned it complaining.

The shaky cam has been done brilliantly twice this summer. And that is in The Bourne Ultimatum and 28 Weeks Later.

thats one of the few films where i liked the use of "shaky cam" and thought it enhanced the action scenes and added to the tension, the use of it in The Bourne Supremacy is the only thing that i didn't like about the film and the only reason i didn't give it a 10 since it really took me out of the action scenes and just left me going WTF while i tried to figure out what was going on. i haven't seen Ultimatum yet so i don't know if it does it any better, but since it's by the same director i don't have my hopes up

6 - it's funny that i've never really picked up on that but that could be because i've pretty much stopped watching tv now, it is pretty funny though

2 ) Flashy trends are fucking up movies almost as much as the death of originality in the movies themselves.
3 ) Cause if she didn't, Eskimo Pie stocks would plummet (I'm a big guy, not being mean, just pointing out her girth and the fact that I don't like her)

If there's one thing that I can compliment Madonna on; she is definitely ambitious.

I for one quite like her earlier music, but she ain't my role model and I'm indifferent about what she does with her life either way.

Yes, please. No more shakey-cam. It worked well in 28 Weeks Later, and Saving Private Ryan and Children of Men couldn't have gone without it. But Paul Greengrass suffers from mental retardation to let any of his film through the cutting room floor. It's not the only problem with the movie. At about 3 shots per second, the editing was horrendous, the camera was locked on "zoom" throughout the fight scenes when it wasn't zooming in and out on people in one shot unnecessarily and I don't give a fuck about Jason Bourne and his government conspiracy or whatever it was.

If I want to see a movie that's lazy and poorly made, I'll save $10 and watch the video of my eighth birthday party.

Well in reference to #2, I thought The Bourne Ultimatum was one of the best action movies in years. It absolutely rocked.

The shakycam bothered me a few times in Supremacy, but not in this.

Transformers was worse than The Bourne Ultimatum for cripes sakes.

I really don't understand why people are complaining about the shaky cam in Bourne but they didn't complain about it in Transformers when it was MUCH, MUCH worse in Transformers.

Have you ever heard, read or seen an actual Madonna interview or statement?? She ALWAYS comes off as an annoying pretentious twat. It's amusing though that ET and the celeb media continue to fawn over her and everything she does, despite the public indifference, stagnant record sales, and bombing movies...:D

I love all the Bourne movies, don't get me wrong...I just hated the shakey cam.

I like Transformers for what it was - a big dumb action movie.

And for all you Kelly Ripa "lovers"...don't you think she could use a meal or two first? I think she's way too boney...she was much hotter years ago.

Well, first, I personally skipped the obvious tripe that was Transformers. Second, when a dumb, flashy trend like the shakey-cam invades the higher echelons of studio filmmaking, such as semi-intelligent thrillers like The Bourne Supremacy and Ultimatum, it tends to be more infuriating than seeing it in a film from someone like Michael Bay.

In any case, I guess enjoyment of a film in spite of Paul Greengrass's or whatever amateur it is behind the camera's direction depends on how easily you get seasick. There are people I've read of in a column at Roger Ebert's website on the fast-editing, queasy-cam controversy over Ultimatum who have or have come close to vomiting watching the film. Any non-horror or non-David Lynch movie that makes a person feel that way without warning, doesn't deserve to have been made, especially one like Ultimatum, which lacks in almost every other sense.

Her last album, that came out 2 years ago, was really fucking good. imo.
