View Full Version : Seriously, who the FUCK is going to see "Mr. Bean's Holiday"?

Wake up call, movie-head-motherfuckers.

Of the 31 people on the goddamn planet who saw that first Mr. Bean movie, not a single one of them liked it.

And it's not like Mr. Bean has gotten more popular over the years.

I thought he died!

So, let's bring back an already failed character, to a whole new generation of kids (who the movies targeted at) who have no fucking clue who this guy is, and for the most part, don't fucking care.

All I'm saying is: what's the real audience here?

If this movie makes 8 grand I'll be surprised.

Bean is more popular in Europe than America, it should do well there, but yeah, the character IS overrated, and any attempts to compare him to Chaplin's Little Tramp is laughable...:D

Not me. It looks horrible. A Rowan Atkinson movie I wouldn't mind being made is a sequel to Johnny English.

I actually found the first Mr. Bean movie hysterical and I never even really watched the show. I wouldn't mind seeing the sequel but not in theatres. Well thats all for now GOoD JOURNEY my fellow schmoes.

Just to set the record straight, the first Bean movie was pretty much an Americanized bastardization of the bizarre yet hilarious TV show. This "sequel" is really more of a continuation of the adventures of Bean, closer in style to the original show (or so I've heard).

That said, I still think it looks like shit.

I'll be seeing it, but I'm not as excited as I would've been if it came out seven years ago.

I grew up on "Mr. Bean," I loved the show, and I laughed my ass off at the first movie. The previews for this one look as lame as can be, but to sate my inner child, I'll give 'er a whirl.

Well, so far it's grossed 188 million dollars internationally, so I guess some people wanted to see it. With grosses like that, I'm afraid they might just make yet another one.

I saw it. Was funny enough not to be a waste of time. I guess it's more of a European thing.

i liked the first one, Holiday isn't very good though, the first 3/4s were pretty painful to watch at times and made me cringe more than anything. the last 1/4 was pretty damn funny though

I'm a fan of Rowan Atkinson and the Mr. Bean character. I digged the television show, and I found the first Bean flick to be enjoyable (however, that was quite some time ago). As for Mr. Bean's Holiday, it doesn't look very good, but I plan on buying a ticket anyway. As I said, I'm a fan of the character, so I simply cannot ignore this new film.

It already has done very well overseas, and if you'd ever seen the original television serries you'll know why. Bean was England's Seinfeld, and the movie was basically slamming all the best bits from the show into one heap of Americanized shit. Having said that, I was really anticipating the film, and after I saw it I was a bit dissapointed. It gets terribly boring and painfully unfunny in parts. My question is why did they wait so long? All of his charm has seemed to gone out the window. It is better than the American film, and co-stars my vote for hottie of the year- Emma de Caunes. The movie's pretty good, but definitley unecessary.

Waiting til it hits HBO.
I think Rowan Atkinson is funny, but not funny enough for me to go see him in a theater.

That damned "Mr. Boombastic" commercial getting played over and OVER again doesn't help matters.

Funny when I saw it in the theaters, not after the 30th time I see it on TV.

Saw the first one with a buddy almost 10 years ago and it was amusing enough to not be that bad so we've decided that we have to see this one no matter what just as a joke to continue the tradition. Once another 10 years hits we'll see the third.

I used to be a big Mr. Bean fan. Hes a funny guy. I wont be paying to see this film. Mr. Bean's time has passed just as Mr. Belvedere's time has passed. I do think that its a brilliant character. But not one for the big screen. (In response to the OP, Bean was iconic on British Television 10-15 years ago. His TV show was also popular in the States with those who had HBO).

If you want to see how it was back in the day (when he was on British Television), you could check out one of his sketches here:

That pretty much sums up my feelings on the subject. I saw the movie, don't remember much about it besides him flipping people off on the way to the air port. I remember enjoying it, but I also remember being like 13. Either way I'll see this one someday I'm sure.

Your attitude, Jerk Shapiro (but not you), concerning this film is very ignorant. I can actually understand where that attitude is coming from though - largely by how lame "Bean's Holiday" looks. And that's coming from an avid "Mr. Bean" fan who has the entire show on DVD and saw the first move on his 13th birthday when the movie premiered (yes, one of those 31 people actually - Gasp! God Forbid! - enjoyed it and had a good time). Regardless, I will be seeing this less appealing sequel/spin-off for obligation-sake.

But to say more and to redeem myself from possibly being banned, I really am not looking at you as ignorant. I will say that your feelings towards the character of Mr. Bean - that no one on this planet could possibly find him humorous - is way off. If you intend to successfully rant against a less than appealing film and, yes, franchise character, do your homework. You should know better than to bash a franchise character that does have plenty of fans all over the world and even in the United States (there's at least one, counting me). There is a reason he has become a franchise character and that's because people other than you find him honestly funny.

I'm with you on how lame "Bean's Holiday" looks. But if you really want to be taken seriously (Or, not. I really don't know what your intending with this rant), don't let your attitude act high and mighty about it. As of now, this is a failed rant.

Not me, Even though I enjoyed watching Mr. Bean the show at age 6, and the movie at the age 13. Why is the sequel rated G? Couldn't they have gone for a PG-13 rating? Or a PG at least? Wasn't the first Bean movie PG-13?

The original Mr Bean tv series were immensely popular over here. Even though the quality has dropped to abysmal levels of comedy, there is still a big market from people who are fans of Atkinson and people who are fans of the Bean charcter for people to want to make this film.

If you don't like just ignore it.

I'm still on the fence. I am a huge fan of the original TV show, and thought the first movie was a terrible rehash of the series. And now the trailers aren't doing much for me, let alone the G rating. How can Bean be the total dick he was originally and still keep it G?

I do realize more than 31 people saw the orginial flick.

I do realize this one already has and will make more than 8 grand.

I do realize the original TV show character is hugely popular overseas.

I also realize the first Bean flick wasn't that great, and that this just looks like a horribly forced sequel with a G rating, so it's obviously being marketed towards young children, of whom most have no idea who the hell this guy is.

Alls I'm saying is, I don't see a need for it. Granted every movie is gonna have its respective fans, and that's fine. I dig a lot of shit I'm sure not everyone else enjoys, which is what makes this a great time.

$183,956,926 (Non-USA) (24 June 2007) (sub-total)

I hardly call Mr. Bean a "failed character". Mr. Bean's Holiday won't do huge here in North America (I predict a total gross around $40 million but who cares, it's done close to $200 MILLION on a budget of probably nothing.

I actually agree with this. I liked the show and first movie, but I will not deny the new one looking anything but kinda lame. It doesn't help that they waited ten years to do this. It feels too late. I will most likely see it for obligation-sake, but I may check reviews first. As of now, this rant is serving a purpose.

Spoilers for "Holiday"... (highlight to read)

At one point in "Holiday", when Bean is phoning pretty much every cellphone number in Cannes, he ends up talking to someone who immediately picks up and says "Selene, tell me you love me or it's over." Bean just looks at the phone and hangs up. As we see the man again, we pan out and see he's stood on top of a bridge. He jumps off it screaming as we cut back to Bean...

Now that's a level of dickery far above anything we've seen with Bean before imo. I personally enjoyed the film- enjoyable way to spend 90 minutes I thought. Obviously not the comedy of the year, but still good.

I thought the first Bean movie was freakin' hilarious but "Holiday" doesn't look too good and the "G" rating scares me.

I've seen it a few months ago when it came out in my country and I enjoyed it much better than the first movie, which as previously mentioned, an americanized bastardization of the TV show.

I'm a big fan of the show which makes my judgment towards the movie biased. I'm not sure people who doesn't like the show will enjoy Bean's Holiday.

Of course there's no need for another Mr. Bean movie, and it looks terribly lame from the ads. But there's no need for a lot of shit in Hollywood these days, and if Rowan Atkinson (an extremely funny comedian who I have always liked) feels like resurrecting the character one more time, I'm really not going to put up much fuss. In a world where Epic Movie and Who's Your Caddy? are given theatrical releases, I don't see why Mr. Bean can't put out another assembly line piece of garbage.

Especially when (as was pointed out) the movie has made $188 million worldwide already, and just opened to $10 million in North America (a higher opening than the new Jet Li/Jason Statham flick). Sort of surprising, but obviously many people have still not tired of this character.

I've been a Mr. Bean fan since childhood and I enjoyed the first movie when I was 9. This looks lame, but not as cringe inducing lame as some of the other films of the past couple of months:

Daddy Day Camp
Underdog
Bratz
Who's Your Caddy?
I Know Who Killed Me
Captivity
Hairspray (I don't care if it got good reviews. If I have to watch it, I'll just watch John Waters version)
Skinwalkers
License To Wed
Rush Hour 3
The Nanny Diaries
Balls Of Fury

Although it's lame when Bean dances to Bombastic. I still probably won't see it, but why hate on this so much when their's even crappier shit already out or coming out. I think the spoiler posted sounds pretty funny in that Bean way.

While i used to enjoy Mr Bean a lot when I was younger (largely through video and an occasional viewing on PBS or Fox Family when it used to play Britcoms), I now find myself enjoying wittier shows like Keeping Up Appearances, Are You Being Served?, Father Ted, and Red Green (a long-running Canadian comedy (15 seasons and 300 episodes) that poked fun at men's affinity for fixing things with duct tape, creating weird inventions so they don't have to work very much, etc). Now THAT stuff was golden:D . It also demonstrates how much funnier British comedians (including Sacha Baron Cohen) are so much funnier than American ones.

BTW, I didn't find out until just a few years ago that Atkinson also played the voice of Zazoo in THE LION KING. Now that was a bit of a stunner:eek:

You really couldn't tell? I placed him immediately, and I was like 10 years old when the movie came out in theatres. :p

I just thought I'd come here to mention Atkinson is done with the character. He's retired now.
