does anyone know about some new woddy allen collectors editions coming out? i want to pick up annie hall this weekend but all of allen's movies are on these bare bones mgm dvds and i dont want to get it if it's coming out in a better edition in like 6 months.

Woody Allen has it somewhere he doesn't want his films to have any special features as he believes his films speak for themselves or something like that. So don't expect any special editions of any sort really, or else Criterion probably would have already been all over the DVD releases of a couple of his films, as they did with laserdisc.

Since you can pick up Annie Hall for less than $10, I'd say just go for it instead of waiting and waiting, hoping there will be a "special edition"... :)

All his MGM titles have production notes in their insert jackets. That's probably the most you're going to get from him as far as special features go. : /
