Ok, maybe not ever, but for me this is definitely the best weekend for genre works in quite a while.
We've got an insane action film that's had lots of great early reviews: Shoot 'Em Up.
We've got what looks to be the best Western since Unforgiven - 3:10 to Yuma.
And we've got what many say is the best slasher in many years, Hatchet.
I'm pretty psyched, and Friday is gonna be a long day at the theatre. Anyone else?

We also got what looks like another awesome r-rated comedy in The Brothers Solomon.
Either it will be great or another Let's Go To Prison, where the trailer was funnier than the movie.

Yuma looks like it wont get enough attention and Shoot Em' Up will get the same amount of attention that Smokin Aces got... :(

Actually, I think YUMA will do just fine. The recent tracking I saw (on Jeff Wells' Hollywood Elsewhere) showed it tracking ahead of Shoot 'em Up. I wouldn't be counting it out just yet (not with Crowe and Bale in it).

Well, it isn't out yet, but there seems to be a key difference: early reviews are very positive on Shoot 'Em Up, whereas Smoking Aces was badly reviewed by practically everyone.
BTW, why does this comparison keep getting made? I don't get the Smokin' Aces and Shoot 'Em Up comparisons...
The other recent western I liked, Open Range, did fairly well. It only grossed about 60 million domestically, but it also only cost $26 million. That looks to be a key difference about Yuma. It seems to be quite a bit bigger budget, unless its two leads have taken major paycuts...
I guess we'll see. I'm hoping it will be a huge success, but I'm not holding my breath.

They both look like mindless action movies. Granted Shoot 'Em Up looks better than Smokin' Aces was.

Because they seem to have the same style to me. And I meant box office wise not reviews. Though Shoot Em' Up will probably get 15 million more than Aces. And I think i'll enjoy Shoot Em' Up alot more...

Not necessarily. I wasn't really interested in Smoking Aces, can't fucking wait for Shoot Em Up.
Shoot Em Up looks like Die Hard with a Grindhouse feel, hardly like the dozens of generic mindless actions flicks that come out every year.
