View Full Version : Disney are assholes...

According to Disney watcher Jim Hill, Ratatouille currently ranks eighth at the domestic box office and might wind up out of the top ten entirely by the end of the year. As a result, he says, Pixar execs are now overseeing the marketing campaign for the upcoming WALL-E, something that has apparently infuriated the Disney marketing staff. Hill quotes one unnamed studio insider as saying that Ratatouille "was a very difficult picture to sell during an incredibly competitive summer. ... They're now being complete bastards about the WALL-E trailer, insisting that only they know the proper way to promote their next picture. ... But that's okay. Let them call the shots on WALL-E's marketing campaign. Next year, they'll be the ones who'll be taking the fall when that Andrew Stanton film doesn't measure up to expectations."
That last quote is one of the jerkiest things that it's possible to say in such a situation. Yeah, I can tell how well those guys can promote a movie- they effectively tell you that WALL-E doesn't live up to expectations. Well thank fuck it's only a personal thing in this case, because it's quite plain that Pixar has more imagination and creativity in its fucking cleaning staff than any one department of Disney these days.
Buying Pixar out was the best thing that ever happened to their hack-arses. In five years, they could've been down Shit Creek without a paddle, churning out sequel after sequel and squeezing as much money as they could out of their classic work rather than making new stuff. When was the last time you saw a good animated Disney movie that wasn't made by Pixar. Thus, even post-Eisner, some cross-sections of Disney are populated by assholes... [/rant]

With Disney's buyout of Pixar, one move I do like is with John Lasseter. He became the Chief Creative Officer of both Disney and Pixar Animation Studios and has the authority to approve films for both Disney and Pixar, with Bob Iger and Roy Disney carrying final approving authority. He then killed all those crappy, unnecessary sequels/spinoffs to those classic Disney films that were in development - such as Tinkerbell.

Agreed. Also, in addition to ending the shitty sequels, Lasseter resurrected Disney's traditional animation studios, which is awesome. I'm psyched for 2009, with both Rapunzel (which sounds amazing) and The Princess And The Frog (first 2D-animated feature from Disney since Home On The Range). Hopefully they'll be worth the wait (and it seems like they will) because then Disney can restore some of it's dignity, as well as presumably make more 2D-animated features.

I don't think Wall-E will be difficult to market. I saw the teaser for it and I can't wait to see it. The last Pixar movie I saw was The Incredibles and didn't think any of the recent ones was worth watching. But Wall-E looks really interesting and might be worth it.
Disney has always been picky about it's animated flicks, even moreso recently since Pixar is the only reason it still makes animated movies (bitter?). I don't see why they should change now.

The LION KING (also an excellent soundtrack BTW:D )...in 1994, shortly before I turned 9:( . It's been downhill for Disney ever since.

"Meet The Robinsons", I guess... though I hated that one, it was really dumb, something that only kids would like (unlike some of Pixar's movies, Ratatouille, for example, that appeals to all ages).

heh i still need to check out the Krunk movie but i'm afraid it will end up sucking. But yeah David Spade was so good in this movie but it was all the characters that made it great.

there have been a number of decent non Pixar disney movies in the last decade. Problem most of them don't stack up well to the Pixar universe, I mean would you take Emperor's New Groove over Toy Story.
Lets go back to Lion King because thats a movie I believe stacks well against any Pixar film
Lion King
Pocahontas
The Hunchback Of Notre Dame
Hercules
Mulan
Tarzan
Fantasia/2000
The Emperor's New Groove
Atlantis: The Lost Empire
Lilo And Stitch
Treasure Planet
Brother Bear
Home On The Range
Chicken Little
of that list I woild say Mulan, Emperors New groove and Lilo and Stich thats 3 out of 13 thats a pretty crummy track record.
Pixar's list
Toy Story
Toy Story 2
Bugs Life
Monsters Inc
Finding Nemo
Incredibles
Cars
Ratatouille
of that lineup I would say the weak links are Bugs Life, Cars and Ratatouille, so even there thats 5 out of 8 with no real stinkers unlike the Disney list which has at least 3 or 4 stinkers (home on the range cmon)
and we haven't even begun to talk about their straight to video lineup that is so embarassing that Walt himself was reported to roll over in his grave

Shockingly, and I've said this a hundred times, I'm not a fan of animated movies in general (outside anime and, doy, "The Lion King" series).
I could care less about Pixar. The only Pixar movie I give a damn about is "Monsters, Inc." and only because it's so warm and fuzzy, not necessarily because it's a good movie. The rest can go take a warm steamy piss on the powerlines.
The only 'CGI' movies I really, really love aren't even Pixar, and that's "Ice Age" and "Ice Age: The Meltdown" both of which kick the ass of any Pixar wuvable thing they toss at them in terms of characters, story and funnies. The only thing that's lacking is that the visuals aren't as pretty (which is the most important asset of any Pixar), and maybe, it doesn't have as much heart.
I didn't, and won't, bother with "Ratatouille" or "Cars", just don't care. I'll stick to "The Lion King" series, "Ice Age" series (give me a third ASAP!), my "Final Fantasy" movies ("Spirits Within" is the most underrated movie in history after "The Lion King 2") and other Disney movies I still enjoy ("Mulan", "Brother Bear", "Beauty and the Beast", "The Emperor's New Groove").

I definitely agree that Disney would be dead in the water if not for Pixar. Ol' Walt was really the only one who knew how to run things there.

(goes to rewatch the "Return of the Master" trilogy)
Hope I haven't spoilt anything for those who haven't seen the Series 3 finale...
Hm, to get back on topic... Disney are cunts.
Jodie Foster is too. To go OFF topic again...
