i'm all for the unrated version of this, but am dissapointed that the Blu-Ray release will only be the PG-13 version . what gives here? guess i'll have to pick up just the regular DVD on this one to go along side my Ultimate Die Hard Collection....

Will definitely be picking up the two-disc. Didn't catch it in theaters so it'll be a blind buy that I'm almost positive I'll love.

Hasn't anyone figured it out by now that "Unrated" doesn't really mean anything?
Anyway, this sounds like a nice DVD. I can't believe that Fox isn't fucking us over with a bare bones disc only to release the SE a year later.
But you know what one part of the movie I really didn't like? When the bad guy said Bruce Willis was a Timex watch in a digital world... that doesn't make any sense. I'm wearing a Timex watch right now and it's digital.

So where is the Unrated part, exactly?
The article gives absolutely no insight into what is different, if anything actually is.

Unless I'm reading the DVDActive article wrong, Fox is going the WB route and releasing the 2-Disc the same day as the single disc.

You do realize that special features on almost every movie are unrated.

unrated is just a trick to make you think you are getting more than you really are. For a film to call itself unrated all they have to do is insert a 5 second clip into the film that had not been sent to the MPAA.
The film did feel a little castrated without the language but I doubt this unrated version will truly give the movie its balls back.

No, not directly. More just to those who think this unrated version means that this is suddenly going to be a different movie. Look at the special features on every DVD, "special features are not rated." I hope that there is some different cut when the producers werent on set but they wanted to make a PG13 movie and thats what we got.

From what I remember, the decision for it to be PG-13 wasn't officiated until after it was almost entirely filmed. They actually had to edit out blood and foul language to get it down to the lower rating. Legend says that this should be that lost R rated cut.

Well I hope you're right but them slapping "UNRATED!" on the cover doesnt convince me.

If it's the r rated cut, cool, if its still pg-13, still cool. It was an awesome movie no matter what the rating. I don't care what rating a movie has, as long as its a good movie.

The last time I recall Fox putting out an "unrated collector's edition" (Mr. & Mrs. Smith), the "unrated version" was a legitimate director's cut with some noticeable changes. I'm hoping that's the example to go by with Live Free or Die Hard's release.
One of the clues, I think, is the addition of audio commentary. Usually DVDs that have the theatrical and Unrated cuts will have commentary only on the theatrical version. For the Mr. & Mrs. Smith Unrated DVD, the disc contained only the altered cut and it included new commentary.
From DVDActive's article, I can't tell if that's the case. But until someone reviews the disc and records the details, let me hold on to my ray of hope, awright?

I already own the trilogy box set, why not pick this one up also. It's a good enough movie, and the unrated version will probably be worth it.

I won't be picking this up. This film had structural issues way beyond what any unrated edition can fix.

Me, too. I don't see what could be so "Unrated" about a Die Hard movie. In fact, most Unrated SE's don't have that much different from the original versions anyway.
I'm pissed that LFODH had a PG-13 anyway. I loved the first three being super-action and violence and bad language. So hopefully the UR version will bring all that back, but somehow I doubt it.

TheDigitalBits just posted some interesting details:
"By the way, while we're talking about Fox titles, we've got an update for you on the studio's forthcoming Live Free and Die Hard Blu-ray (due on 11/20). We've confirmed that the disc will include only the PG-13 theatrical cut of the film. This has upset some fans, who are aware that the studio is releasing an uncut version of the film on DVD the same day. The reason for the decision is that the uncut version was finished by the director only AFTER completing all the theatrical press junkets and promotional appearances for the film. Unfortunately, this was too late to complete compression and authoring for the Blu-ray version in time to meet street date. So the studio was basically faced with the choice of delaying the title or releasing the theatrical cut only day and date with the DVD. So that's the reason it's PG-13 only."
So there you have it. This is the director's edit. F-BOMBS AWAY!

I'm totally stoked for this.
I hope this is the real deal... none of that CGI added violence and gore bullshit.

I realize a number of folks are still doubtful about the authenticity of Live Free or Die Hard: Unrated, so I though I'd pass this along...
IGN DVD got an early review on LFoDH this week; apparently there was a bit of a cock-up on Fox's part, and the review copy did not actually contain the full "Unrated" cut of the film. So in their review, IGN communicated their disappointment in the minimal differences they noticed. Fox realized the error and sent over the REAL Unrated cut, and IGN had this to say:
"...We're pleased to say that all of the swearing, violence and yippie-ki-yay's we were so badly missing the first time around have been faithfully restored. To some, the film still might feel more like a generic Bruce Willis action movie than a true Die Hard film, but audiences might be surprised at how a little salty language really does give Bruce Willis his John McClane balls back."

The unrated cut is awesome, even better than the PG-13 version (obviously). Hell, you even get to hear Warlock's mom yell out a 'fuck'. :D
As for McClane, it felt right hearing him call multiple bad guys motherfucker over and over again.

so i guess the 2 disc set is going to have a free ticket to HITMAN packaged in it, which is sweet... my concern there is simple: will the Best Buy SteelBook ALSO have this Hitman ticket packaged in it??

Just got the Steelbook edition from Best Buy. Now I have a grand total of 2 Steelbooks (the other being The Departed).
The unrated cut greatly improves the film. It actually feels like part of the franchise now.

It's overblown in a Michael Bay way. The last 20 minutes are so cartoonish that it starts to look like you're watching a Roland Emmerich action film. Yeah, it goes there.
