While Lindsay Lohan completes her third stint in rehab after being charged with reckless driving while under the influence of drugs and alcohol, concerns have been raised that her younger sister is following in Lindsay's bad-girl footsteps.
Reports have emerged that Ali Lohan, 13, was involved in a car accident recently after apparently slipping out of the family home to meet up with an older male friend.
"Ali had snuck out of the house to be with her friend, a 16-year-old boy who has a learner's permit," revealed a source. "He had taken the car without his mother's permission. Luckily, [Ali] was not hurt."
But while Ali escaped unscathed, two other people were harmed in the crash, which occurred close to the Lohan family home on New York's Long Island. Their injuries are described as "slight", and the Nassau County Police Department has refused to issue a statement on the incident.
Lindsay's publicist Leslie Sloane on the other hand, was quick to release a statement. She claimed Ali had no involvement in the accident, saying, "I just got off the phone with Ali. She was never in the car."
This official word from the Lohan camp has sparked speculation there is a dangerous culture of denial among Lindsay's family, friends and employees, particularly after 21-year-old Lindsay's problems with substance abuse were ignored and glossed over until they reached crisis level. It's feared that the same policy of denial will risk condemning Ali to a similar fate.
Meanwhile, the finger of blame for Ali's potential slide into delinquency is pointing once more at parents Dina and Michael, who have already been accused of poor parenting. Last month, Lindsay's former bodyguard of three years, Tony Almeida, laid the blame for the actress's bad behaviour at the feet of the warring former couple.
"From a young age [she] dealt with her father's physical, emotional and drug abuses, as well as her mother's drinking," Tony revealed.
Quite how growing up in a family where parental control was so slack and her sister set such a bad example has affected Ali remains to be seen. But it can't be denied that the early signs just got that much more grim.
