I'm going to have to try and give this another watch but the one thing i remember about this is being creeped out by the banging on the doors and the heartbeat/breathing coming from the walls. One of the only really good haunted house flicks.

The Haunting is black-and-white horror at its chilliest. I love the fact that each character is given the chance to fully develop. It makes the third act more disturbing when you're intimate with everyone's pathos. That said, the ending isn't perfect. I would have written it differently, but this is still one of the best "haunted house" pictures of all time. I refuse to watch the remake. REFUSE!

Did anyone else pick up on lesbian undertones between the two female leads?

I think it was more than just an "undertone." The movie definitely wanted us to think Theo's a lesbian, and that Eleanor's confused by it. She wants attention and afftection, but not that kind of sexual affection.

Anyone notice that Theo seems to have a split personality? She's nice and supportive to Eleanor one moment, then snide with her the next.

I loved the complexity of the characters, especially Theo and Nell.

The remake sucked big time, it started out good for the first 40 minutes and than became one big CGI mess. Plus the house was ridiculously big making it even less realistic. And yah, I think Theo had something for Nell definitely.
