Ok I never seen a WesAnderson film. As you know his new film DARJEELING LIMITED is now playing with short film HOTELCHEVALIR. I only want to see this new film cause im a Natalie portman fan thats it. So that alone is the only reason Im seaing it. As I read about this alot of people love his films and am wondering what films should I pick up on dvd?

I would love to walk into this film to see Portman and a new Wes Anderson film noy just Nat (nothing against her) What's all the fuss about him?

So what should I check out?

He's a good director, watch Rushmore and The Royal Tenenbaums, his best imo

He's just one of those guys who takes a certain sensibility to like...not unlike Jim Jarmusch, David Lynch, the Coens, etc. And his sense of humor is drier than most of his contemporaries...and it seems as far as dry humor goes, the drier it is, the less Americans seem to appreciate it. Personally, I love his films, and I think each one has gotten better, so I'm really looking forward to "The Darjeeling Limited."

I don't get all the fuss about him, Rushmore was great but The Life Aquatic and The Royal Tenenbaums were both pretty damn bad.

Ditto

I didn't really care for Bottle Rocket, but I should re-watch as it's been years since I've seen it.

I am pretty big fan of Wes Anderson but I'm kind of in reverse of which of his films I like the best. My two favorite are Bottle Rocket and Life Aquatic, then Royal Tenenbaums followed by Rushmore, this is not to say that I think Rushmore is bad at all, I actually enjoy it a lot. I'd say, the easiest film to get "used to" if not familiar with Wes Anderson's style and humor, is probably Bottle Rocket. I'd say its most "mainstream", or as mainstream as Wes Anderson can be, but its damn funny and his both Luke and Owen Wilson in it.

So I'd recommend starting with Bottle Rocket first if you want to just get a feel for Wes Anderson.

Although, since you ARE going to be seeing Darjeeling Limited, judging by the preview, it does seem to be sticking to his same style he's been with the other three films, so you may also just want to just pick one of the three other films to maybe a get a better feeling to what you are about to witness with Darjeeling Limited. I, personally, would recommend Life Aquatic, but its widely considered by others (myself not included) to be hist worst (I repeat, I disagree).

I think the safest bet would be Tannenbaums or Rushmore. I am aso a huge fan of Life Aquatic, but like Sanchez said, everyone else seems to hate it. I would recommend Tannenbaums firt above Rushmore simply because Rushmore has alot of those moments where the main character is making a total ass out of himself and I always find scenes like that hard to watch.

Bottle Rocket is amazing. I think it's his best film.
