An article at The Bits mentions that it seems as though one is on the way (HD-VMD). Thoughts?

Without studio support, it'll never fly. Way too much confusion with the two current high-def formats...consumers don't need another.

Im not even buying Blu-ray or HD due to this stupid "war" going on.

Another format wouldnt even make it off the ground.

I think this format has a shot for one reason only. It's cheap. Based on the red laser technology, it's cheap for manufacturers and consumers to purchase. If the consumers decide this is the way movie technology is to go I don't think the big studios coudl successfully not promote it.
I could see this technology be supported by dvd burning technology first. I mean imagine storing 3 or 4 movies on one dvd. From there it has a descent chance. I'd like to see the small upstart company push themselves into the market and win. just to show the Blu-ray and UD backers they don't own the market. but that's only my 2 cents worth.

Again, without CONTENT, it'll never fly. The studios are already having a difficult time with two existing HD formats...
