I fucking hate these cases. I mean is there a shortage of regular DVD cases that they have to use these I have a lot of movies in these kinds of cases to name a few
Boiler Room
The Matrix
The Corruptor
Deep Blue Sea
In the Mouty of Madness
and
Blade
and thats not even half of them . These cases just agravate me. Also other things on DVD cases that agravate me are the little extra locks. I've broken like 4 or 5 cases not knowing these were there.

Yeah, I don't like those. They don't line up with other DVD cases either. They're always slightly taller and wider. They seem cheaper too - usually made of cardboard instead of plastic.
About the snap clip things:
If you haven't figured this out, those clips break off very easily and don't affect the usability of the cases. I always break mine off first thing. It used to drive me nuts when I'd go to open a DVD case and would find it "locked".
What I don't get is why they are needed if they box stays closed without them - seems more costly for no good reason.

Yes that is one thing I forgot I have my DVD collection all sorted nice and neat and then there are the snap cases which just messes everything up if I want to put the matrix films together or put them in ABC order, those snap cases always stick up.

I try not to get DVDs in these cases if possible, the height difference doesnt bother me, it's that they're much more easily damaged.

yeah these things suck, i have my dvd's in stacks above my TV and when ever i'm trying to put them back they get caught on my copy of Full Metal Jacket of Training Day and end up fall in behind the wall unit which blows.

It doesn't serve much purpose, but, geez, it's not that big a deal! Some people have cancer.

You didn't actually buy these movies, did you?
Anyway, the snap cases are annoying and it's a bit confusing why some studios would have them and others don't. Get a standard and stick with it.
By the way, The Matrix DVD in the Ultimate Matrix Collection does not have snap cases.

Good thing is Australia is because dvd's didn't hit retial market big enough until 2002/2003 - Snap cases were virtually unexistent. There were a few WB releases that you could find these in (the 2 shitty batman sequels) and maybe a couple others, but to even find them you'd need some (bad?) luck. Sometimes a few will pop around now and then though...
But i've never had that problem you guys had:)

I agree with this rant completely and utterly.
Fuck the snap cases...fuck them, their miserable creators, their lack of function, and the countries in which they're produced.

I could be wrong, but it seems like these cases have been pretty much phased out. I haven't seen any titles released in that design for some time now.
To me, however, the useless slipcover or slip-sleeve packaging (picture not available at press time) is just as vexing. It serves no purpose, yet once I remove it from a DVD, the anal-retentive part of my brain just... won't... let... me... throw it away...
Even though I know I should and my wife has been giving me sideways glances about that growing stack. Maybe if I save enough of 'em I can build myself a little DVD Fortress of Solitude!*
*actually, that sounds kinda cool...:)

heres what you do and what I have done on a number of my snapper cases
first you need to purchase a good suplly of keep cases, or amrays. Online is the best as you can buy them in bulk but wal-mart also sells like 10 and 25 packs of them.
Then go to this website
http://www.cdcovers.cc
which has really high quality scans of most dvd covers. Now if you don't have a really high quality printer you might want to take the dcans to Kinkos and get them printed out on some good paper stock (it will run you about 75 cents per cover) but if you do have a really good color printer buy some nice gloss paper stock and print the covers.
You will have to trim the covers a little bit and they are normally not entirely perfect but they are pretty close.
The n simply replace your snapper case with a nice keep case.
I have done this on over 40 of my snappers, it costs a little bit but its so much nicer and it makes me happy someday I will replace all my snappers.

I've never been bugged by snap cases. It's hard to tell when their fully closed, but it really isn't that big a deal to me.

I haven't seen one of these style cases in a long time now.
Never really bothered me...I dont get all irritable just cause things dont line up ok. as for them being more easily damaged, I've not had that problem either...are you playing cricket with them or something?!?!

I've always wanted to know why they still use these damn things? I remember when DVDs were first widely released and most of them were like this, but it has been over a decade now, and while the majority of DVDs come in the regular cases, it still pisses me off that some of them come in these things.
I mean, it's cheap cardboard with plastic. They never last very long. I still have two of the very first DVDs I ever bought (The Matrix and High Fidelity). The Matrix DVD case is all sorts of fucked up; that cardboard does not stand the test of time. However, the plastic High Fidelity case (while a little worse for wear) is still in good condition.
What I do now, however, is if I buy a DVD that comes in those shitty cases, I print off the DVD cover online and slip it into one of those plastic cases you can buy anywhere and use that. Works much better.

The good thing is I haven't seen a snap case release in a few years, I think that they have at least cut back on these since maybe 2001/2
