I remember a scene from JAY & SILENT BOB STRIKE BACK where Jason Biggs lamented how, no matter what he did, he'd always be remembered for being the guy thar fucked a pie.

So I thought: what other actors will almost always be remembered for doing something embarrassing/gross/ridiculous/shocking on screen?

This doesn't mean that the person is a bad actor, that the movie itself was bad or that their performance was bad, by the way...

Aside from Biggs screwing a pie, I came up with:

Ned Beatty: Always remembered as the guy that gets gang raped by psychotic inbred hillbillies in DELIVERANCE.

Ben Stiller: Always known for playing endearing losers, but I'll always remember him for getting the "beans above the frank" with his zipper in THERE'S SOMETHING ABOUT MARY.

Jim Carrey: Now a serious actor, but the memory of Ace Ventura making his butt cheeks talk (among many other stupid things) still lingers.

Anyone know of any others?

John Heder will always be known as Napoleon Dynamite.

And I figure the kid who plays McLovin in Superbad will always be known as McLovin.

I didn't actually mean typecast actors... it's not the character they played, it's just a particular thing that actor did onscreen...

Thanks for replying, just the same!

Ned Beatty for being raped in Deliverance

Ving Rhames for being raped in Pulp Fiction

Phoebe Cates for "that scene" in Fast Times at Ridgemont High

Viggo Mortenson for the scene in The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers where his horse finds him after falling into the river over the cliff (it plays out more like a love scene)

Steve Carrell for getting his body waxed in The 40 Year-Old Virgin

Divine for giving a blowjob and eating dog shit in Pink Flamingos

This thread reminds me of an old SNL skit. Jeff Daniels was being interviewed about the Purple Rose of Cairo, but every clip they showed of him was http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b7l6jg4Hlog. Good skit

I disagree about Carrey. First of all, of all his comedies, Ace Ventura doesn't come into my mind before Dumb & Dumber or Man on the Moon.

But there isn't really a specific role I'd think of Carrey. I think he's done a great job in his career in making me not think of one particular character but several great characters that he's done.

Robert Englund IS Freddy Krueger. And nothing else.

Okay, okay. I got one.

John Hurt. Incredible, accomplished actor of the stage and screen, an Oscar nominee, still doing great work today, from Owning Mahowney to V for Vendetta, an all around class act.

Yeah, but Sean Connery and Pierce Brosnan have actually gone on to have great careers.

I mean, as awesome as Connery is Bond, it's actually only my third favorite role of his after Sam Malone in The Untouchables and Indy's father in Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade.

John Tavolta - His dance sequences in Saturday Night Fever is an image that even Pulp Fiction can't remove.

Harrison Ford - Getting frozen in stone in Star Wars: Empire Strikes Back.

Robert DeNiro - "You talkin' to me?"

Meg Ryan - Will always be remembered for faking an orgasm for Billy Crystal in When Harry Met Sally.

Clint Eastwood - "I know what you're thinking. "Did he fire six shots or only five?" Well, to tell you the truth, in all this excitement I kind of lost track myself. But being as this is a .44 Magnum, the most powerful handgun in the world, and would blow your head clean off, you've got to ask yourself a question: Do I feel lucky? Well, do ya, punk?"

Tom Hanks - For the scene in Forest Gump where he ran for 3 years, 2 months, 14 days, and 16 hours.

Sissy Spacek - Will forever be remembered for Carrie when she gets covered in Pigs Blood on Prom Night.

Russel Crowe - "Are you not entertained!?"

Mel Gibson - When he is tortured at the end of Braveheart and screams "Freedom!"

Arnold Swarzenegger - "I'll be back."

Ned Beatty - For being that guy that squealed like a pig in Deliverance.

Bruce Willis - "Yippie-Ki-Yay Mother Fucker!"

I don't know... Indiana Jones comes to mind before Star Wars when someone says Harrison Ford, usually, if only because he was the central character. And Tom Hanks has a lot of stuff I think of before Forrest Gump, and a lot of things I remember from Gump come to mind before the running scene.

That being said, Hanna Hall will probably always be remembered as the little girl who cried out "Run, Forrest, Run," and Mykelti Williamson will always be Bubba. And yes, I had to look up both their names.

I think Scatman Cruthers (didn't have to look him up) will always be remembered as the guy who gets axed in The Shining.

Alex Winter will always be Bill of Bill and Ted.

Does anyone think Ron Livingston will always be Mike from Office Space? Will Matthew Broderick always be Ferris Beuler? God, I hate to think so...

I kind of doubt that Teenkiller. Maybe to newbies to the genre, but Judith will always be that girl I'll never remember other than showing her tits for a brief second in the original.

The girl who played Caitlin from Clerks will always be remembered for having sex with a dead guy who was jerking off in the bathroom.

Jason Mewes will always be remembered for many outlandish things such as wanting to tap his cousin's boots, "I didn't cum on you Pete, I swear!" and of course, the reenactment of Buffalo Bill from Silence of the Lambs.

Also, in relation to that... Ted Levine will always be remembered for three small words: "I'd fuck me!"

Tom Noonan will always be remembered as the Red Dragon in Manhunter, chomping away at Freddy Lounds in the interrogation scene.

Wayne Knight will always be known as Nedry, the guy who got eaten by a dilopasaurus(??) in Jurassic Park, and for constantly making out with Sally on 3rd Rock from the Sun.

Wayne Knight is Newman, forever and always. Then again that's tv.

Actually, CosmicPuppet's post brings me to an interesting point- Pretty much everyone in Seinfeld will be remembered forever as their character in Seinfeld. Think about it...

I'd think that movie would better be known for:

"Father to a murdered son, husband to a murdered wife, and I will have my vengeance - in this life or the next." That or maybe "On my signal, unleash hell."

I think people got lost in the shuffle and forgot that you're supposed to write something memorable that happened to the characters or something they did:

Joe Pesci will always be remembered for getting killed in Goodfellas and getting beaten to death with a bat in Casino.

I don't think we're supposed to just toss out names.

Michelle Pfeiffer's definitive role is Catwoman, but the scene that I associate her with is always and forever, when she slinks on top of the piano while singing "Makin' Whoopee" in The Fabulous Baker Boys

Matthew Broderick's lip synching of The Beatles' "Twist and Shout" in Ferris Bueller's Day Off is classic.

Sissy Spacek getting drenched with pig's blood at the prom is the highlight of De Palma's masterful Carrie

Marilyn Monroe in The Seven Year Itch, there really isn't a more iconic moment than that.

James Caan's death scene in The Godfather or getting his ankles whacked with a hammer by Kathy Bates in Misery. Both equally memorable.

Janet Leigh is remembered for portraying a leading character who dies less than half way into the film by being hacked up in a shower.

De Niro - you talkin' to me?

The things that Dennis Hopper do to Isabelle Rossellini during their first scene in Blue Velvet.
