Hi, and welcome to JoBlo's btw!

That's a cool topic. We have a Best, Worst, ect board here on JoBlo's Horror House, and I think it would be cool if you would post your poll right there on the board - I think more of your fellow schmoes would participate.

Just a thought!

It's too bad they dont take time to adapt his stories into movies better. All the ones they did take their time with ( The Shining, Shawshank, 1408 ) have been really really good and critically acclaimed. But I hate it when they take a really good stephen king story and half ass it like IT and The Stand, could have been amazing movies!

Funny I liked IT and The Stand when they first showed them on tv(it loses something on DVD and/or tape)

As for The Shining I might be killed for saying this, Jack Nicholson is about the only good thing about that movie. As for the TV remake while it was closer to the book it wasn't scary either and it had the guy from the tv show wings in the Jack part so it was worse.

They may as well kill us both, as I totally agree.

Misery kicked ass too.

I liked IT and The Stand too but the book's were of an epic scale and you cant do those kinds of stories justice with a made for tv movie. Especially the kinda of depraved and "mature themed" things that happen in King stories, you can't show on prime time without heavy censorship.

That is true but they won't let you make 6 hour movies for the theater (like the stand) so it is a double edge sword .

We were talking about epic scale. And they did make a movie adapted from a book of epic scale called Lord of the Rings that was filmed all at once. So I am saying it's not impossible to make a huge book into a movie.

There's room on the firing line for three regarding The Shining, since I'm with you guys on that one.

And totally agree about Misery! They really got that one right.

As I just saw 1408 last night, I must say that it's now one of my favorite Stephen King adaptations. Others would be (in no particular order):

- Misery
- The Shawshank Redemption
- The Green Mile
- Dreamcatcher (sue me!)
- The Night Flyer

I think I'm forgetting some, but that's ok for now.

My favorite was Misery. Pet Semetary was good. Christine was bad.
