theres some info.
CUBE helmer Vincenzo Natali has a flick called SPLICE about scientists who become famous for successfully splicing the genes of different species of animals, creating brand new creatures. These guys aren't content with the lesser species, though... oh, no. They decide to inject human DNA into the mix and see what pops out. I'm betting it isn't very pleasant.
Adrien Brody and Sarah Polley are starring as the scientists, so you know the script by Natali, Antoinette Terry Bryant and Doug Taylor has got to be solid. Also you have Guillermo del Toro producing.
Sounds right up my dark and twisted alley. What about you?
but heres some freaky pictures.they didn`t post.

CUBE helmer Vincenzo Natali
That's all I needed to get me interested, Cube, Cypher and Nothing are awesome films, the latter of which is sadly not very well known.
Very cool premise, really looking forward to this.

Creatures look really cool, but this sounds almost exactly like "Species". Hell the titles are even similar!

I really liked both Cube and Cypher, so I'm definitely looking forward to this. And Sarah Polley's in it and I'll see anything she's in.

I've been really pumped for this movie ever since those concept pics came out.
We went to see Final Destination 3D last night (the worst of the four movies by far, 3d was gimmicky but mildly entertaining) at the Yonge & Dundas AMC in Toronto, and right before the movie, there was just some lady handing out tickets to a test screening of SPLICE this Thursday...only problem is, I am going back to Ottawa for a week so I won't be able to go :(. My roommates are definitely gonna check it out though so I'll post back with some reactions.

Aw! Too bad I don't live in Toronto (always been fond of our Canadian brothers), I freaking love Natali. He's like the little mini-savior for the sci-fi genre that pops up with a bundle of joy every once in awhile for us to devour. Horror has regulars like Aja, Roth, and Zombie. Sci-fi has Natali.
Nothing is quite funny and Cypher is one of the most criminally under-the-radar pieces of awesome ever.
Last I heard, though, it's getting pushed back in the 'States. It's no longer even slated for a September release in America. It was supposed to come out the same week as Pandorum.

http://www.quietearth.us/articles/2009/08/28/Vincenzo-Natalis-SPLICE-HYBRID-opens-September-18th-is-it-getting-buried
We've all been eagerly awaiting Vincenzo Natali's next, a genetic experimentation film starring Adrien Brody.. and while Yahoo has just today backed up news of a wide release September 18th, there's no news on this ANYWHERE. We've looked for a trailer and all we've discovered is that in some territories it's now called Hybrid. So no fest play or anything. What the hell happened? Is it bad and nobody will play it? Is it not done yet? WHERE IS IT?
Exactly. What the hell has happened to this film?

The rumour is that the producers/distributors are having disagreements. Everyone was expecting it to premiere at the Toronto fest, the fact that it didn't means that something is going on.

Adrien Brody is all I need to know. (For a second, I thought the douche from O.C. was in this)
The concept looks cool. I am all for a fucked up sci-fi film.

Got to see a sneak peek of this at frightfest and it certainly uses tension as a plot mover. Think Aliens, where ripley is locked ina room with a face hugger... that's the kinda scene I got to see at frightfest but the Splice creature was so much cuter :D

An update for anyone who wants to know, the movie's been announced as being part of the Stiges line-up. Hopefully that means it's coming soon.

Very curious to hear about the test screening JCPhoenix.
So two of my friends, Conor and Mark saw it (the other one bailed)...
...and they were not impressed. They were asked to stay for a focus group about the movie and they didn't bother - Conor said he left because he thought there was nothing much that could be done at this point (i.e. a lot of the problems were in the script stage). He thought the film felt like a first-time work. The one good thing he had to say about it was that he did like Adrien Brody in the lead role overall.
To give an idea of the tastes of the two who saw it, Conor is a colorist/cinematography major and generally loves gorgeous, moody kind of films (Assassination of Jesse James, Prestige, etc) and almost anything by Soderbergh or Woody Allen...he's not a huge fan of pulpy stuff though or even much camp.
Mark, however, is exactly the kind of audience that SPLICE should be targeting. His two favorite directors are the two Davids (Cronenberg and Lynch) and his tastes run towards the pulpy, weird, cult, camp, horror, etc. He is a fan of Cube and Cypher (both Vincenzo Natali films). And he definitely didn't like this at all - he also said that it wasn't what he had expected from the film - he could see how the ideas in the film were interesting concepts to start but the execution was bad.
So that's bad news imo. I was really excited about the movie but as my taste usually lines up somewhere in between the two of them, it sounds like this is going to be a huge disappointment for me.

Beginning was good. The last half was bizarre.

I hate what they did with the trailer - making it out to be some sort of cheap-scare horror-thriller - but I still think this has LOADS of potential, and that the trailer isn't representative of just how thought-provoking the premise really is. I'm still interested, because I'm a fan of the director and the actors (I'll see Sarah Polley in anything), so we'll just wait and see how this unfolds. I am still quite intrigued, though.

Yes! *sends virtual high-five in Monotreme's general direction*
I love Natali. Cypher is awesome, Cube is awesome, Nothing was entertaining, and hopefully this will be another interesting experiment from the man. I was actually a bit steamed that a few articles I've read online aren't mentioning Natali at all. They are simply selling it by saying Guillermo del Toro is producing. Granted, Natali's name doesn't sell and most don't know who he is, but not mentioning him when he's already established a few pretty impressive films prior to Splice kind of makes me angry. I'm also very happy that Del Toro saved this movie from floating off into oblivion, but it's as if director of the film might as well be a first-time director.
Natali’s being low-balled. Low-balled, I tells ya.

I agree. I'm a big fan of (the first) Cube and of Nothing, and I thought that Natali's segment in Paris, Je T'aime was one of the most interesting and memorable. He has definitely established himself, but I guess not enough - most people don't associate him with Cube, and nobody has seen Nothing. Which is a shame. I really hoped that this would be the film that would put him on the map. But it seems like they're low-balling it as well.

I'm really intrigued by the movie and can't wait to check it out when it hits. Most I've read says the film starts one way but veers off into an unexpected direction as it proceeds.

Already seen this... loved it, unintentionally funny at points but then goes all jeepers creepers and disappoints :( But well worth the watch as there's great CGI and characterisation.
That trailer does the film no favours :( it's nothing like that at all... well not until much later on

One of my friends saw the screening too. She summed Splice up this way:
Yeah actually, I didn't go into more details last time but this is one of the things Mark mentioned specifically. It's been a while so I hope I got this right - I think he said something about not buying the relationship between Brody/Polley later on although it was promising in the early stages. And the fact that there were unintentionally funny elements.
I still wanna see it. But I'm definitely cautious about it.

Saw the trailer in front of The Losers and I think it looks damn creepy. Though the fact that it's been sitting on the shelf for a long time does cause one to pause. Then again, the same is true of Fireflies in the Garden, and I love that movie. So, a movie sitting on a shelf for a long time isn't always bad. We'll see.
Something about this trailer gave me the same feeling I had watching the trailer for Godsend, which I thought looked pretty cool but never saw it. I know the reviews for that movie were pretty terrible. We'll see.

This movie actually doesn't look terrible. It might have some promise although I'm not sure if it's supposed to be straight up sci-fi horror or something else entirely. It's kind of hard to tell from the trailer.

Splice looks like a very interesting, very intriguing film. The only thing that kind of kills it is the fact that Adrian Brody has sex with the demon. Unless it connects to the story somehow, in a film like this, its unnessecery. But I can't make full judgement until I see it but for now, looks very good!

You NEED to use a SPOILER warning when giving away key plot details.
And yes, the film looks cool. I've always been a fan of Cube.
