Same Title as our Own Arrow in the Head Article.
Just in time for Halloween, we have some major horror movie news for fans of the popular Scream franchise. Scream 4 has been officially greenlit by the Weinstein Company, almost eight years after the last installment was released in theaters. No other details have been given out, other than the official announcement from the Weinsteins:
"The Scream franchise has become a cult classic. Together, all three movies have grossed over $300 million at the box office, just in the United States alone. The fans have been asking for a 4th Scream movie for years and we're finally giving it to them. As far as details go, we're only in the planning stages and we may not get around to it [Scream 4] for quite some time, but rest assured, it will happen."
Will the original cast be returning?
"We've just entered the planning stages of Scream 4. There isn't even a script right now. Only time will tell."
Scream 4 will be co-distributed by Dimension Films and Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer.
I am Psyched I Loved all 3 and hope that the three main people come back Dewy,Sidney, and Gale.

Once again I'll believe it when I see it. I remember two years ago when I saw WES CRAVEN at a panel discussion and he said he literally talked to Neve Campbell the day before and that she was on board for Scream 4. Suuuuure she was... Well thats all for now GOoD JOURNEY my fellow schmoes.

Don't know if it's true. But eventhough I worship the Scream trilogy, a fourth one is completely retarded and goes completely against the idea of the series. This is one movie that should be saved.

Well I just checked over at Bloody-Disgusting (a pretty damn reliable horror site) and this is what they had to say:
Ok, I was going to post this earlier but I figured people would be smart enough to realize that a blogspot claiming to be the Weinstein Company is complete crap - apparently I was wrong as other sites keep picking this story up and thus causing my inbox to be flooded with people telling me I'm missing "the big story!" The big story is that we checked in this morning with the Weinsteins who instantly screamed "BOGUS". There is no Weinstein blogspot and as of right now there is no Scream 4. Plus, do we really need another Scream? Really?
Well that's all I needed to hear. Scream just really NEEDS to remain a trilogy any way. And this is coming from someone who usually doesn't mind sequelization. Well thats all for now GOoD JOURNEY my fellow schmoes.

I'm glad that was bogus. The idea of someone referring to Scream films as cult classics was really bothering me. I know the definition of "cult film" is really up for debate, but I'm pretty sure no definition includes being a top grossing film of the year.

I wouldn't mind another one if they got the crew back. If they could bring Williamson back and he can still write, it could be a good movie. I will admit 3 was a good ending, but they could always take the series in another direction. There are many different areas the series could take.

http://hollywoodinsider.ew.com/2009/06/scream-to-be-rebooted-as-a-trilogy-courteney-cox-and-david-arquette-in-discussions-to-return-.html
If you needed proof that everything old in Hollywood is becoming new again, look no further than Scream. The mid-'90s franchise that sent-up slightly older horror flicks is being remade into a whole new set of movies, starting this fall. Writer-director Kevin Williamson has been working on a trilogy that will bring back many of the characters from the original movies.
And EW has learned exclusively that Williamson has approached Courteney Cox Arquette and David Arquette to return. Deals have yet to be signed, however, as all involved try to hammer out potential scheduling conflicts that could arise now that Courteney Cox Arquette's pilot Cougar Town was picked up by ABC. (Agents for the actors have yet to return EW's request for comment.) No word on whether Neve Campbell's character, among others, will make the cut.
Sounds like they're planning a remake.

Considering that the "Scream" series was either paying homage to horror movies of past or spoofing them, I'd like to see the 4th film take a dig at the remake craze going on; a major film studio is remaking "Stab" and, obviously, someone isn't happy about the past being brought back up, imagine the tag line: Someone is taking their loathe of remakes...one step too far!
I'd watch it :p
But I can live without a Scream 4, to be honest.

Thanks alot guys, that means alot, its just something I came up with on the fly as well. But, to be honest, I'd like the filmmakers to take on an idea thats completley different and doesn't use the "film within a film" forumla like Screams 2 and 3 used (as well as this "remake" idea of mine). Though if they did do something like mine, they'd have to use a pretty damn good twist to not make it seem like the previous entries to keep me interested...thats IF this movie will ever come out.
Right, I'm off to write my Scream 4; HERE I COME MIRAMAX!!! :D

Looks like Neve Campbell is derailing this bitch anyway: http://www.bloody-disgusting.com/news/16526
Neve Campbell, who played Sidney Prescott ("Sid") in the first three Scream films, has thrown a kink in the wheel of the forthcoming new trilogy. Writer Kevin Williamson updated his Twitter account with some disheartening news. "Trying to figure out a Sid-less scenario. She won't do it. This sucks," he writes. While Neve was offered a cameo role, the new story was to follow a group of new teenagers. If Williamson's plan was to have Sidney be the new killer, we're far ahead of you buddy. That's dumb anyways. Courteney Cox and David Arquette are both still said to be returning.
Yay.

I don't really give a shit if they make a 4th movie, (which I will end up watching anyways) there are a couple things I hope they avoid or should do if they make it;
DONT'S
1.) Do a remake of the original (has been to many times already give us a fucking break)
2.) Make it with a Final Destination pussy ass PG-13 rating
DO'S
3.) Put some nudity and F bombs in the damn movie
4.) Either Kill David Arquette's character or make him the killer

You bet your ass. He filmed about three more videos placed in the hands of his sister who will give them to Neve Campbell when she needs them most:
"Sid, if you get this, I didn't make it and get to fuck you. That really blows. Anyway, if you're watching this, then chances are, somebody is desperate for attention and wants to be in the lime light. He's going to be unoriginal hack trying to capitalize on something that died years ago. I know by now you're tired of this, but it's your job to fight this guy because well... what else are you doing? It's not like you ever moved on with the rest of your life. Since this is beyond trilogies, expect the expected. Everything that has happened will happen again! It's going to feel a lot like deja vu."

Since this film has now been given the greenlight for good, I have something to say about this that I posted about this. Some agree; some disagree!
----------------------------------------------
Scream films are to blame for Twilight and Justin Bieber! It began here!
Nightmare on Elm Street 3 began the MTV trend... However, as MTV was a completely different format at the time, it wouldn't be the end just yet. However, things were tipping with this. It was in dangerous territory.
Scream is what started this destruction that would lead to reality shows, Justin Bieber, and Twilight. It was the series that began the teeniebopper trend, the series that began the WB trend, the series that began the CW trend, the series that began the later destruction of MTV as an entire music channel with memorable animated series (like Beavis and Butthead; Ren and Stimpy), the series that would start the pomposity trend. Some think it also started the Emo trend.
The series becoming financial gold was one of the worst things to ever happen to the horror market. The first movie has a great opening (one of the best) and the second movie has its moments (the Casey Becker redo in the sorority house with Sarah Michelle Gellar stands out as very good)...
It's not really Scream itself that is horrible as a movie. It starts out tense, bloody, scary, nice homage to F13 that worked well in its scene in the Barrymore section. It quickly goes downhill after becoming lame, teeniebopperish, and unscary as a whole. The opening is the best part of the movie. The ending is atrocious with attempted comedy (the phone hit) and just lame.
So, no it's not really Scream that sucks. Part of it sucks, part of it is great.
But, we have this series to thank for a lot of awful trends that sprung from it and the destruction of MTV as a whole -- right around the same time the Disney channel was destroyed as a whole -- going from premium pay status for middle-class/upper-class kids (target towards boys) to an awful channel full of shows meant for pre-teen girl prescription drug addicts.
---------------------------------------------------------------------
Now, CNBC shoots a blurb at 10pm last night that says Dimension is pinning Justin Bieber himself for a role in this film! The kid is 16 years old, but could pass for Neve Campbells son since he could pass for 12. A few pre-teen girls were questioning at the Elm Street site if Justin would be Neve's son.
This is all just gossip right now, but I wouldn't be surprised if it went through. Dimension is strapped for cash heavily and it's Dimension that probably wants Bieber -- not Wes Craven. Hopefully Wes Craven got some casting rights this time for his own film.
Early casting rumors are just that rumors... So take it with a grain of salt. They change all the time.

First Look: Neve Campbell in "Scream 4"
The ex-host of Access Hollywood Nancy O'Dell has a scene in the fourth "Scream" movie. While on set she snapped a few photos, including a shot of Neve Campbell. Check it out below.
http://www.worstpreviews.com/images/headlines/temp/temp2182.jpg
Wes Craven is returning to direct. He stated: "It's a total integration of Sidney (Campbell), Gale (Courtney Cox) and Dewey (David Arquette) and new kids. The story of Sid, Gale, and Dewey is very much a part of the movie. [Sidney] kind of put her life back together in the course of these 10 years. But, certainly, there would be no Scream without Ghostface, so she has to confront him again, but now as a woman who has really come out the darkness of her past."
The new movie will be R-rated and will likely lead to two more installments. "Scream 4" is scheduled to hit theaters on April 15th, 2011

Lmao at the last posters post. Well as far as I know no one from twilight is in it. I know that Emma Roberts is in it and she will be playing Sydneys cousin and Hayden Panettiere will be in it aswell. It's the start of a new trilogy. I am excited about it but I am wondering just how they are going to break away from Sydney's story and create a new story for the new trilogy. I have a theory that whatever new story pops up will revolve around Emma Roberts character, being she will be Sydneys cousin.

I guess I'm excited for it, mostly because I grew up with the first three and the first one was the first horror film I saw in theatres. I kind of like the direction they are taking it, I just don't know if Wes Craven has it in him to execute it. I hate to be down on the guy, because he is responsible for some of the greatest horror films of all-time, but he's been out of the game for a while and while I really liked Red Eye, Cursed was awful and My Soul to Take is one of the worst reviewed films of this year.
The trailer didn't do a lot for me, but it is nice to see Ghostface again.

I think Scream is one of the few horror (and movie franchises, period) that is flawless. While a lot of people hated Scream 3, I thought it was just as worthy of a sequel as part 2. I hope Scream 4 doesn't end up being the first disappointing entry in the series.

You know...I realize you were joking when you wrote this...but in a way, this would actually be a clever premise for "Scream 4"!
Think about it:
"Scream" = psycho is killing people based on the 'rules of horror movies'.
"Scream 2" = psycho is killing people based on the 'rules of sequels'.
"Scream 3" = psycho is killing people based on the 'rules of trilogies'.
Sooo....wouldn`t it actually follow suit if:
"Scream 4" = psycho is killing people based on the 'rules of franchise reboots'.
It`s silly, I know....but it actually would fit with the first 3 movies and it`d even be timely, what with all the recent horror franchise reboots ("Texas Chainsaw Massacre", "Friday the 13th", "Nightmare On Elm Street").
And it`s really no more far-fetched than the 'rules of a trilogy' from Part 3.

Might as well watch it for some nostalgia.

I'll be very surprised if there's only one killer in this thing.

I'm staying optimistic at this point. I did hate part 2, but I enjoyed the original and Scream 3 is heavily flawed but I got some enjoyment out of it. I hope Craven actually kills off at least one of the original characters (Dammit, Dewey shouldn't have survived Scream 2) and just has a more ballsy approach to this film. That said the guy seems to have lost his touch since the original Scream. As I said, I enjoyed Scream 3 as a goofy slasher, but it was nowhere near the original. I didn't like either Red Eye or Cursed and it seems like every review I've read ripped My Soul To Take to shreds.
Still, this movie has an amazing amount of attractive females:
Emma Roberts
Hayden Panetierre
Allison Brie
Marley Shelton
Courtney Cox
Aimee Teagarden
Anna Paquin
Neve Campbell
Kristen Bell
Shanae Grimes
Lucy Hale
Marielle Jaffe
Now this is taken from Wikipedia, and some of these girls are listed as having an unspecified role, but this might be the biggest ensemble of beauties in any film.
So this should deliver for me on an eyecandy perspective, I just hope the storyline manages to keep up par and it delivers some great kills.

I watched all of them at the cinema.
This one has no chance. Wes Craven is out of goodwill with me.

The tests screenings have been extremely positive. The trailer had me in stitches, i usually don't like the trend of self indulgent meta filmmaking, but this looks like intelligent meta. Looking forward to it.

This looks cracking. I don't even feel guilty admitting it.
Scream on VHS ruled my boyhood and I'm more than happy to get the chance to catch this one in the cinema.

I'll be there.
Give me your worse Dimension. I'm prepared.
Is it wrong for me to hope that certain characters get killed? I'm banking on Hayden Pantierre and Anthony Anderson's characters to bite it.

I'm seriously hoping for one of the main characters to die, preferably Dewey.

I love that poster!
Reminds me of Halloween or an 80's movie poster.
The trailer has me all kinds of excited. I love me some Craven but the guy NEEDS a good horror hit on his hands again.

The hell with that, Dewey is my favorite character. But based on the trailer I'd say there's a pretty good chance of one of the returning cast dying.
I love the newest poster. Best Scream poster ever.

I agree. Brilliant poster. Envokes both the genre it references (Halloween) and the pop culture addition the series offers (the mask). I would dig that poster on a new series box set or something.

You're right, it's certainly a Halloween homage. Simple, but really effective.
I would dig that poster on my wall if the movie turns out to be good. Fingers are crossed.
Still waiting on the official rating announcement, though it appears to be a hard R.

There's a new interview with Nico Tortorello which pretty much spills who the killer(s) is(are). It's all very vague, otherwise it wouldn't have been published, but it was obvious to me.

I fully believe this will be almost as good as the original. Everything I've seen up to now rings 'a bloody good time' to me, and that grisly still confirms that Wes is back on form. I have a spot in my heart for Scream and I'm not sorry about it.
