There's only one thing that flashy, sometimes batshit crazy blockbuster director Brett Ratner needs a fresh supply of on a movie set: hot ass tail, preferably of the virginal variety. If there aren't enough hottie extras he can bang on set, he'll take his master mindless blockbuster crafting elsewhere, thank you very much. Well, it seems the producers behind the upcoming ESCAPE FROM NEW YORK remake have fulfilled this crucial clause in his contract as they're apparently, according to the IESB, looking to him to direct Gerard Butler's upcoming attempt to perform the titular feat. Considering the pure, unadulterated hate that Ratner inspires, especially for properties like this considered sacred by fans, this probably won't sit too well with a lot of people. So, please, feel free to sound off.

Gee you think? The only thing that ran through my head when i read this was "NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO etc". Not only is this just another one of hte movies that doesn't need to be remade but its one of the Kurt Russelle classics.

I'm not a big fan of Russelle but there are 3 great movies and odly enough they are 3 Carpenter movies as well

The Thing
Escape from New York
Big Trouble in Little China

So its bad enough its getting remede but to put this puz on the movie after how horrible X-3 was and even htough Rush Hour 3 made money i've heard/read nothing but shitty reviews for it so far.

You know, I was just watching Escape from New York last night after not having seen it in over two years and you know what I realized? It's fine the way it is. There's really no point in a remake. I mean.... you have veteran actors Lee Van Cleef, Earnest Borgnine, Donald Pleasence, Harry Dean Stanton, even pop icon Isaac Hayes... all in one film. It's just something so cool that you couldn't ever get that again. Part of what makes EFNY so much fun is that if you're a movie fan, you get a kick out of seeing these guys interact with each other... I mean, it was only a decade before that Van Cleef was the ultimate bad guy in Sergio Leone's films. Sure, there's the little problem of logic: If the tape they need from the President is so important, why didn't they make more than one copy? But who cares? This movie rules!

And you can't not talk about Kurt Russell. He owns the role of Snake. I don't care how tough Butler was in 300.... going to the gym 24/7 ain't gonna get you cool enough to be Snake Plissken. It's a role nobody can play perfectly except Kurt. It was TAILORED for him, for Christ's sake. Anybody who tries to fill his shoes is going to come in second place regardless, so you might as well pack it up. He's the Man with No Name, Blondie of the future. It's a very American, iconic role that only Russell could own much like he owns Stuntman Mike from Death Proof. Butler just ain't got the X-factor Russell has... it won't work.

Now you got the boring director, Brett Ratner. A guy who has no vision whatsover as a director and is very hit and miss with the performances he gets out of his actors (X3 anybody?) He needs to strictly remain in his buddy comedy/action sandbox and not try to crawl out because he's going to sink quicker than a fat person in the dead sea. :)

yeha hte whole butler thing apperently isn't sitting well with Russelle and he says "why are they getting a scottish guy to play the role of the quintesential American??".

And i know exectly what you meen by ohw Russelle own's his rolls i meen just look at Big Trouble in Little China, its a cheese fest but he cheese is good cause Russelles character is the Cheese within the cheese :D
