After all the rumours that it would be cut to PG-13, that is officially untrue. Sweeney Todd is:
Rated R for graphic bloody violence
This is certainly great news, because an R rating = a darker movie, and the darker a Tim Burton film, the better!

Haha, that's awesome. There was no doubt in my mind it would be R, but I'm just glad I have confirmation.
Should be a fun time at the movies.

The last R-rated Burton movie (Sleepy Hollow) had heads rolling and blood, and that sucked.
This, on the other hand, looks fantastic. A killer trailer, just a brief tease of Depp's singing ability, plus some wicked slashing of throats and a hint of the morbid delights to come. My official most anticipated release of this year, and perfectly enough, it's opening around a holiday built on goodwill towards men.

Ah, that answers my question about if this would be the first R-Burton film. . I'm actually surprised Sleepy Hollow was, but I guess it makes sense. I know you hated Sleepy Hollow, but myself, I liked it quite a bit. It was my bag.

I liked Sleepy Hollow as well.
And was there really anyone out there who doubted whether or not a play about a barber who kills people and then turns them into pies WOULDN'T be Rated R?

Good to hear but the film still looks lame. It sounded good and then I watched the trailer and holy crap did it suck.

It's Burton . . . it's Burton and Depp . . . I'm there.
I don't think the movie needs an R-rating, but it'll more than likely be more effective with the added blood and gore. Which is a good thing.

Glad to see more and more Schmoes are joining us Burtonites in anticipating this film immensely. Of course I had no doubt it would be Rated R (sorry, little 13-year-old fake-Burton-fan girls who walk around all "dark" and "gothic" with Nightmare Before Christmas merchandise, this film is not for you), but to recieve such confirmation is of course, great.
Can't wait for this!

Can't say I'm surprised but it's good to hear it's going to be an R.

when I first heard that Tim Burton was doing this I wondered how he was going to get a pg-13 rating. I guess that answers that question.
