Terminator back for a whole new trilogy

Fresh off the back of last week's news that Vin Diesel may be taking over from Arnold Schwarzenegger in a fourth Terminator film comes the announcement that producers are planning not one but three new films in the sci-fi franchise. Warner Bros, which now owns the rights to the Terminator films, wants to see an entire trilogy of movies set in the future, during the war between the robots and the humans. Executive producer Moritz Borman said: "The third film was really the conclusion of what happened in the 'now.' You will find the most-loved characters, but the intention here is to present a fresh new world and have this be the first of a trilogy." And if you're one of those who wishes studio bosses had listened to original franchise director James Cameron, whose famous response when asked what he thought of Terminator 3 was to simply say: "I told the story", then we're afraid matters get worse. The director being talked up to take on the next film is Charlie's Angels' McG.

What a douche bag idea. Only a douche bag would try this.

Did they say McG? Good gravy... I'm sick of that guy.

somewhere out there Invisible is either crying or jumping for joy.

I myself am rolling my eyes. This series ended when Cameron jumped ship... or should I say "finished it."

While I'm excited at the prospect of another trilogy; McG getting things rolling doesn't instill me with a lot of confidence . . . in the movie, the trilogy, or WB's commitment to it.

While I've always wanted to see extended future war sequences, I do feel that the series properly concluded with the second film. The third was fun, but it didn't add anything to the franchise, and unless a way can be found to restore meaning to this series, I don't see why the studio would want to make these films.

Oh yeah, because despite my feelings that they are unnecessary, I am still going to shell out cash to see 'em because I love "The Terminator." Forgot about that.

Diesel doesnt seem to want to involve himself in franchises (the last one he tried, Riddick, failed, even though I thought it was cool) so I really dont see him signing on for three Terminator movies. And what would be the point of getting him in for one and then having to recast the role again?

As far as I'm concerned this series has finished, it finished with Rise of the Machines....although after finally seeing the Extended Special Edition cut of T2 I'd be happy to leave it with that....aside from the drunk line which just didn't work.

I'm a huge Cameron fan so I definitely loved 1 and 2 the most, but I have to admit I also liked 3 as well. I think 3 was just more for eye candy and pure action then any real story line though. I mean it didn't really prove much. I'll definitely see the new trilogy but I don't know if I'll actually like it.

As far as Vin goes, I'm not real thrilled with that. I think the whole buff meat head terminator idea had kind of had it's day. I mean to me the creepiest and most terrifying terminator was Robert Patrick and he is by no means buffed out.

Do I smell Depp/Burton signing on?
*slowly pan up to reveal an unnaturally pale-faced character with an unnaturally wide grin*
"HI.... I'm the terminator... and I'll be back. Tee-hee!"

^Now THAT was a scary cyborg. Er, wait... am I thinking of the wrong movie? No, there was definitely a cyborg- he was always making these unnatural machines that tortured children, and that movie definitely scared the hell out of me anytime I looked at his inhuman visage.

AAAAAaaaaanyway... Diesel as the Terminator is just downright stupid. Diesel is too GOOD of an actor- he needs to finish up the Riddick series. They need to get someone with a tiny bit less in the way of acting chops, whose still buff, and has some sort of a facial mannerism they can twist into a humorous new calling card for the character... wait... I've got it!

Right. Thats why Id rather see Vin as a Kyle Reece type human soldier against the Rocks Terminator or something. I dont think Vin is tall enough for the roll of an 800 series Terminator anyway, and with this being set in the start of the future war I doubt we will see any flashier designed machines. At least I hope not.
