What? Nobody bothers to read the official thread where I posted this???

;)

Well, I guess it's justified to create a separate thread, since the new trailer IMHO improves on the rather weak teaser trailer hugely and kicks quite a lot of ass. Now THIS is starting to look like I hoped it would look.

That was awesome. Of all the fantasy movies coming out, this is the only one that looks any good. And it looks pretty damn great too. I still don't think it'll be as great as The Lord of the Rings, but it looks like it'll be better than The Chronicles of Narnia and the underrated Eragon.

Oh, that's what I was looking for. A much, much better look at the film than the randomly thrown together teaser, with none of the annoying LOTR pompous tie-in either. This coalesced and is good at getting me intrigued, I know little about the book, but this was as good as getting my ass in the seat come this December. Consider me officially sold, New Line.

The trailer starts out slow as hell, but damn if it doesn't kick lots of ass in the final minute, minute and a half.

I'll tell you, the Joblo news page telling of the trailer says that everybody's looking for the new "LOTR" franchise. Since New Line was behind that moneymaker, I could see them pulling off this one as well.

I really really hope they pull this off. Love the books too much to see them go to waste on the screen...it's looking better and better judging from this though I still think that the CGI could be improved just slightly here and there....

That said, I caught the composer credit at the end of the trailer - Alexandre Desplat is doing this which is AWESOME. His scores so far have totally fit the kind of mood I'd aim for with this film...

I'm also a little worried about Weitz taking the last three chapters and moving them to the next movie (gambling that there is one) especially since I loved the open ending of the first book but Pullman has seemingly approved of it so I guess it should be okay...

i cant stand Nicole Kidman, but everything ive seen of this movie looks absolutely incredible. This will rival LOTR in terms of beauty (im sounding real soft right now)

After seeing this, i can honestly say that i dont give 2 shits about that Narnia trash

Man I don't know... for some reason I haven't been grooving to what I've seen about this movie so far. Which is wierd, because I love fantasy novels, but there is just something... hell, I don't know, I really have no idea why I'm not digging this. Someone want to reassure me this is going to kick ass? I haven't read the books so I have no idea of the story is a good one or not.

Narnia seemed like a PG version of LOTR and that bothered me a bit. I still enjoyed it somewhat, but I'm hoping this movie avoids that kid targetting demographic. Go for the Gold for crying out loud (no pun intended).

They will end up with a PG-13 rating unless they have really softened the story. Without giving too much away, main plot points in the book deal with child torture and child murder, and it will be hard to write those things out. And I don't think you can have those things in a PG movie, even if you avoid graphic details. They can't really move those things offscreen, like for example the massacre in AOTC. Lyra witnesses these events first-hand, and they are crucial to the plot.

Doing the film exactly like the books would probably mean R. Those polar bears are pretty violent beasts... The books are pretty dark, brutal and macabre sometimes, I really hope they haven't softened them TOO much. I certainly expect some softening (No eating of hearts in this movie), but I hope there is not too much of it to kill the integrity of the story.

I pretty much agree with all the sentiments posted above. I am a HUGE fan of Pullman's His Dark Materials trilogy and have been anticipating the movie release for a long time: I liked what I saw in the teaser but felt that it was rather jumbled. This trailer totally blows it out of the water though: the graphics look far improved (although could still probably use some work), but in general the whole look and design of the world, and the visual look of the film in general is a spectacle to behold and does the novel justice. We can count on the veteran cast members to deliver top-notch performances, and I hope that Dakota Blue-Richards won't disappoint - from the trailer it looks like she will do an okay job indeed. Can't wait to see the film!
