iesb and aint it cool news both report this story

The trades are reporting that Simon Pegg has been hired to play Scotty in JJ Abram’s new Trek film. I really like Simon, he is one of the funniest guys here and abroad but can he play the beloved Montgomery Scott?

So who does JJ have planned for Bones? Greg Grunberg maybe? Nothing would surprise me right about now. Those Matt Damon as Kirk rumors are really sounding pretty good right about now.

before I was just mildly excited. I was never a huge star trek fan, but I do own the movies and enjoy them. But I've been hearing nothing but good news about this, so chyea, I'm down with this flick.

Nothing against Pegg, but he really DOES NOT give me the Scotty vibe at all.

Probably just a wild bullshit rumor...:D

I don't see it either. I like Simon Pegg, but Scotty? He's not even Scottish (I know that's not exactly a requirement, but c'mon - would've helped).

What happened to James McAvoy? I could've seen him in the part.

I'm a massive, massive Simon Pegg fan, and I'm already hyped beyond belief for this flick, however I can't see him as Scotty - Then again I couldn't really picture Gary Oldman as Lt. Gordon in Batman Begins, and that worked out perfectly, so fingers crossed, this'll be the same.

Pegg rocks. I can't picture him as Scotty, but having him on your enterprise crew can't be a bad thing.

Never been a Star Trek fan, but I love me some Simon Pegg.

Eric Bana as the villian is pretty cool too. I guess I gotta see this now.

At first I thought it would probably be BS, but Pegg was in JJ Abrahm's MI3, so it makes sense.

This is the third coolest casting news for the movie. Third only to Sylar/Adam being cast as Spock and Nimoy actually having a big role in the movie and not just a cameo.

Butler being the villian is the 4th coolest news. And I like Zoe Saldana being Uhura a lot too.

Anything JJ makes i'll watch. I love his stuff. Love Pegg but not sure about him as Scotty. I can see him do it but there something nagging me that it shouldn't be him.

I know he's to old for the role but i'd love to see Connery as Scott. Perfect accent and mischevious humor for the part.

Not sure on Damon as Kirk. Love Damon but it doesn't fit for me. Mmmm although the more I think... Nobody else really spings to mind for that par at the mo.
