Just curious as to what everyone is listening to and wondering about some recommendations. I am looking for some new stuff. I usually like mellow stuff or psychedelic stuff along with hipster type bands but I havent had the chance to browse for new music.

Anyone got any recommendations? I figured this was the place to come to.:D

I just got the new Jay-Z album ‘American Gangster’ on Tuesday and I'm really lovin it, a lot of ppl around here don’t listen to hip hop on any regular bases, but if your down it's definitely worth checking out.

if you like semi-progressive but still decently mainstream stuff, check out Hurt's "Vol. II" for fans of Porcupine Tree, Tool, A Perfect Circle, etc.

Based on your description here of the music you're into, I'd heavily recommend The Olivia Tremor Control and Beulah. Both are fairly recent bands (well, they're both from the past decade at least) that combine the mellow psychedelic vibe with indie rock a little bit. OTC are more straight up pop-psychedelic with a bunch of random noises/interludes that you wouldn't think would work with the music, but actually ends up working wonderfully. They even delve a little bit into ambient on certain parts of the records, but not too much so that it's boring. Fantastic, wonderful band. I'm fairly new to Beulah, but they're a bit poppier than OTC, a little bit more "twee" as well, but they're just wonderful to listen to. They cut the BS and just crank out the pop. Highly recommended as well.

So yeah. Check those guys out.

Completely agree.

If you want something kind of different, try out Subtle's For Hero: For Fool...I don't even know how to describe it, it's such a blend of all sorts of elements from all styles of music (the band apparently consider themselves genre-less) that I don't know where to begin. But I remember putting on the album the first time in the background and I ended up listening all the way through and not doing anything else cause it was so fascinating...in any case though, it's one of those albums which really benefits from listening straight through.

Besides mine, this answer is also acceptable. Completely awesome CD. The closest comparison I could make is Gorillaz, but even that doesn't do it justice. Really requires a listen if you're into hiphop at all, or hell, even if you're not.
