been listening to the new a7x album all week now, and i have to say its pretty fucking badass, seriously i had doubt that they could match the 'city of evil' album, but my god, they overtook it a whole lot, its so inovative and wierd it sound so sweet, every song is awesome at least, but a couple are seriously out of this world
i may sound biased as i love a7x to start off with, but i think for anyone who thought a7x were just 'sellouts' this proves they dont care about the critics, they have made an album that will not only please the old fans, but will bring new ones in, seriously have a listen, you will not be dissapointed :P
10/10

Haha, an excellent read!
As for their new album, I'm not too keen on it. I don't mind Avenged Sevenfold at all, I've listened to all of their albums and have seen them live, but I ain't happy with the new release.
I'll take 'Waking The Fallen' over the new self-titled album any day.

I liked City of Evil more than this album. In my opinion only about 1/2 the tracks are above average and I only kept 3 songs (Critical Acclaim, A Little Piece of Heaven, Afterlife). "Dear God" isn't bad, but it isn't Avenged Sevenfold. Hell, if it were Toby Keith instead of Shadows singing, it wouldn't sound out of place. Not that I mind differentiation in music, but that isn't them. The goth-Danny Elfman sounds of A Little Piece of Heaven are more like them.
If I were to have purchased it, I wouldn't have been upset, but I would have been disappointed. Overall: 5.5/10

in my opinion, nothing will ever top City of Evil. theyve turned into half a nu-metal band now, and theyve thrown in a lot of pointless things (like that chick) that just really ruins the rock they had. and considering Waking the Fallen wasnt my cup of tea either, im pretty sure ill only ever own one album from them.
but lets face it, Shadows has Axl Rose disease. wants to be as epic as possible, and eventually ,its most likely gonna kill em.

I'm guessing that diatribe is directed at me?
I didn't search the internet for anything; I read that article months ago when Avenged Sevenfold was outrageously, monstrously bad, so all the more reason to post it here all this time later, when you consider that they're still outrageously, monstrously bad.
Your being 'sick' is nothing more then an inherent resistance to acknowledging that you like a terrible band, not that there's even anything wrong with that.
I enjoy jpop and polka, usually at the same time, but I don't try to convince myself and others that it's good music.

the new album is pretty good.. but nowhere near City of Evil status. Which i still love that cd. The guitar solos from COE are awesome. I do enjoy this new cd, especially the first track.
And i do agree with the bashing... it is getting ridiculous, especially when you put in your thread title please dont bash in this thread! If you dont like something, DONT post in it! I dont go into the rap threads and bash the artists discussed therein!

Yeah, it's pointless asking us to hold our negative comments. Unless a moderator or Joblo himself says otherwise, any band is subject to scrutiny on this forum. Avenged Sevenfold hasn't lost any status or acclaim (if they ever had any) because some dudes on the internet had something less-than-positive to say. Hell, The Beatles are probably the most trashed band on this forum, but they're still the most popular band of all-time.
Every time somebody makes a thread, everyone is allowed to respond. It's rude to make a thread and say that only certain people are allowed to post. In fact, I've never even listened to them, but it makes me want to talk shit about them anyway.

Ive seen that "pointless comment" comment on everything that Avenged Sevenfold has ever made whether it be music video on youtube or a thread on a forum which states an opinion, you should expect comments from other peoples opinions on the band. I hate to sound trite here but you know the saying about assholes and opinions.
I think many people bash Avenged Sevenfold due to a majority of their fanbase being basically 14 year old hottopic shopping disenfranchised teenie boppers and that almost makes for some impossible to blend into the fanbase without feeling a sense of awkwardness when all those 14 year old girls care about is the band being "hot" and not on the music or the talent.
Im not gonna bash them because hey I love some of their tunes, I think the newer songs are better than the older stuff and believe me i would have picked up that dvd if it had longer concert footage to it .

okay, im all about people having their own opinion, but when i kinda say in the thread title that i wish there be no bashing, thats what i expect from HUMAN BEINGS, i just wanted this thread to be discussed between people who like avenged sevenfold of like the new album.
without the same thing happening all the time, with someone TRYING to be funny, and posting pointless posts up, it may be there opinion, but when they totally ignore the thread title, and do it anyways, i dont really care about their opinion.
and a metal band that may have alot of younger fans is a bad thing? i'd rather there be little rocker kids out there than little hoodies going round shooting people, if they are bringing younger listeners into the rock genre, whats bad about that, but theres no way anyone can say that they cater for the 'younger listener', they may have softened down over their last couple of albums, but they aint avril lavigne or friggan britney spears soft, they are still a hardcore rock band, aggree or dissagree, but they make pretty heavy tunes

You know what? You have a very valid point there. There's nothing wrong with a band that appeals to younger kids. I kind of look at a7x like a gateway band...you start with them and continue to branch out to include other bands, genres, etc. as well.
I think the main problem that a lot of people have with this band (me included) is not the band itself, but its fans. Like I said, I'm all for younger listeners attending the church of metal, but the "fuck you, middle finger salute" attitude that many of their fans have is really getting old. I'm not talking about you specifically...you've taken the shit-talking that's been going pretty well, and I give you props for that. The ones I'm talking about are the ones that are running around saying "if you don't like a7x then just fuck off and die!" It's retarded shit like that that reflects negatively on the band.
Plus, they're just not my cup of tea. Sorry. I've heard a riff or two here and there that was pretty good but as a whole I just don't like that style of music.

But here's the thing about that, that attitude, the "if you don't like A7X, then fuck off and die!" attitude is spawned BECAUSE of the hate from the Metal community toward the band. They wouldn't act that way if they were constantly bombarded with "only fags listen to A7X" and "if you like A7X you have shitty taste in music," like I see on most music related boards.

You can expect whatever you want out of human beings, but you knew this was going to happen. I'm sorry, but the fact that most of A7X's fans are teenagers says A LOT about the band. This is metal for people who want to seem hardcore or "badass."

That's where a7x being a "teen-oriented" metal band bites them in the ass. The main reason people rag on their fans so much is because most of them are immature and will rise to the bait.
And because they suck, and only fags listen to a7x. :D
Also, the Overkill ripoff cracks me up. It's a little too blantant to be a coincidence. Maybe they'll have a video next with the skull 'n' wings flying over a city with green lasers shooting out of its eyes.

So I gave these kids a listen because of the post and I can't say they have any real unique qualities. They sound like most of the metal bands I hear. Why the hell do they all try so hard to have the same guitar tone and setting? Same scales? Same style of song structures. Do they not realize it only makes em sound more like each other?
Whatever, I consider metal to be the least important genre of music today. It places too much importance on the guitar rather than the song/other players in the band as a whole. For that, I can't stand 99% of it.
The only metal I can tolerate is the kind that thinks outside of the box. Give Fantomas a listen. Now that's a band with ideas and know what they're doing. And Mike Patton's vocals are way more interesting to hear than some guy screaming like he's got a throat full of phlegm or got kicked in the nuts.
And how can somebody type "don't comment if you don't like em?" That's just begging for a can of worms to be opened.

Funny, I find it to be the most important genre of music today, seeing as 90% of it is better than 90% of the rest of the modern music community. And the focus on the guitars is because it's a GUITAR ORIENTED genre, that's part of what makes it METAL. The Guitars.

That's cool. I just like the drums and bass too much to just have em be put to the side like that. I like a bass that doesn't play only root notes and a drummer like Keith Moon or Gene Krupa, keeping time but also having fun and going crazy with rolls and fills. I'm a guitar player, but I certainly wouldn't say it's the best instrument ever made, which is why I'm not a particular fan of metal because you're right, it is a guitar oriented genre. I guess you could say I loathe myself in some way. :)

Understandable, if someone prefers bass and drums then Metal definitely wouldn't be your genre of choice, but I would like to say there's millions of bands in the Metal genre, it's arguable one of the biggest music communities out there today and as a result it has so many variations and twist and turns within it that to say that most of them use the same scales, song structures and tones would be ignorant. Not many people actually use the tones Avenged Sevenfold uses (outside of Guns n' Roses), for example. Plus you'd be hard pressed to find any similarity between Ayreon and Pig Destroyer, in any of these categories.

i personally would say that a7x's new album moves away from the guitar part of metal, i think it is more to the lyrics this time around
i am biased, and will ALLWAYS defend avenged sevenfold, much like alot of you defend your favourites. so if i get a bit bitchy, im just being a dumb kid who likes a band too much, allthough i may be wrong sometimes, just pass it off as 'a kid who loves the band and may be a little dillusional'
one thing i may say after reading about how people hate a7x based on their 'fag' fans, again as allready has been said, they only have the attitude '1 finger up to the rest of society' because the majority of society have made them like that, its like this....you put a cobra in a corner, its gonna bite.
and another thing a7x are criticised for is for being 'identical' to G'n'R, well thats a stupid point to make, every band grows up with music/artists they would like to be like when they grow up, plenty of bands steal riffs from other bands....ahem..trivium....ahem...:D
if you grow up listening to one band, your gonna try and be like them to and extent, its human nature.
