Got the idea from this Onion article...

Here's what I'd do...

The Clash- Combat Rock
There are some solid songs on this record, but some of the songs are just boring an uninteresting. I could say the same for Sandanista!, but that's not a good record at all.

Creedence Clearwater Revival- Mardi Gras
Just take all the songs Fogerty wrote and make it into an EP. As much as I love CCR, Fogerty was the only person in that band with any songwriting talent.

Elliott Smith- From a Basement on the Hill
The fact that a great song like "Twilight" proceeds 30 seconds of ostrich noises says it all.

Guided By Voices- Under the Bushes Under the Stars
About twice as long as it should have been. Some great songs, but a bunch of dull ones as well.

Oasis- Be Here Now
Overall, it profoundly blows, but there are a few good songs that would've been good for an EP.

Paul Simon- Still Crazy After All These Years
The first several songs are good, but then it just gets depressing.

Portishead- Portishead
So-so album that's really inferior to Dummy. It gets really tedious after a while. Still, it's Portishead, so there are some good songs in there.

The Smiths- The Smiths
I love most of the songs on this record. If it could lie somewhere between an EP and an album it would be perfect. Most of the songs are great, but there are a few songs that are decent but inferior. Not to mention that Moz's voice on "Miserable Lie" is excruciating.

Sonic Youth- Goo
Meh, some of it is good, the rest is just obnoxious.

goo is outstanding ever song a winner and as for the smiths the troy tate version is much better, the main problem with the smith debut is the terrible production. and as for oasis all there best songs were on bsides

Disagree. There's definitely some stuff that could/should be cut out, but overall I like almost everything on the album.

Not really an EP, but reduce Springsteen's The River to 1 disc., as well as combine the best from Human Touch and Lucky Town to 1.

Tool - "AEnima" (admit it, all the 'padding' tracks with sound effects and stuff are mostly just annoying).

Smashing Pumpkins - "Machina" (should`ve just picked the few good songs and made it an EP)

Smashing Pumpkins - "Zietgiest" (see above)

The Cure - self-titled most recent album (ditto)

Interpol - "Antics" (starts out great but bogs down after a while)

The Killers - "Sam`s Town" (would`ve been more effective if short and sweet)

I disagree with you on these. Especially on AEnima, I actually think those noise tracks add to the overall heaviness of the actual songs. Heightening the impact of the album.

Definitely agree with these two, especially Sam's Town. So much overblown shit on that album, but there's actually some really great songs buried in it that I'd listen to more often if I didn't have to wade through the rest of the shit. "Read My Mind" is fantastic, but for every one of those, there's a "Sam's Town" or something like that. Blah. These guys never should've tried to sound like Springsteen. Like them much better on the songs where they sound more like themselves.

Much as I hate to say it--Hail To The Thief by Radiohead. More = less somehow in the case of that album. Even the b-sides from it are really sub-par.

With Teeth by NIN--has more than it's fair share of blah filler. Could've been a raw burst of anger a'la the Broken EP had Trent shortened it up.

I think I stand alone when it comes to Goo. Some of the songs are great but the rest is just noise. Call me uptight, but I'm not a fan of noise. As for The Smiths, the production was bad, but most of the songs on that record are so fucking good that it doesn't matter. I really just didn't like the second half of "Miserable Lie."

As for Oasis, I wouldn't say all their best songs were on b-sides, but now I wonder where they'd be if they took the songs from their early b-sides and released them on future albums (and I'm not talking about The Masterplan). They wouldn't be coming out with crap anymore and they'd still be on top of the world.

I was thinking the same thing, but the second disc is pretty good too. Personally, I was hoping it would be a concept album, since Bruce is such a great storyteller. When it ended with "The River," I felt like the best of the album was already over.

Both Billy Talent albums, or take the best songs off each (maybe 4 or 5 off either album) and make a really good album.

I don't mind the tracks off Aenima but i found that when ever one would come on i would just want to hear the song thats on after it more so i guess they surved they're purpose, aside from Intermission..... i could listne to that all day lol. And the only problem i have with 10,000 Days is that i can't stand to listen to Wings for Marie pt1 without hearing pr 2 right after it which can be tough if its on random.

Intermission is awesome and the way Jimmy follows it completely pays it off.

I wouldn't change a thing about Aenima, it's completely mind-blowing from start to finish. But Undertow will always be tops for me.
