My least favorite Stanley Kubrick film is The Killing. Stanley Kubrick is my all time favorite director and this is the only one of his films I didn't like.

Very meh. Quite dull. And one of the only Jack Nicholson performances I didn't like.

I've seen all 13 of his films, and I can say without hesitation that his first film, "Fear and Desire," is definitely his weakest (I wouldn't say 'worst,' since it's the superlative form of 'bad' and Kubrick was too skilled a filmmaker to have made a bad film). Nonetheless, it's got some interesting ideas and one can see some of the early seeds of his subsequent work. It's also noteworthy for the fact that filmmaker Paul Mazursky plays the crazed soldier.

I voted for Barry Lyndon. What a bore.

I also really didn't care for Full Metal Jacket or The Shining.

Killer's Kiss is the only one of his I've seen (and that's most of them) that I'd give below an 8/10.

I wouldn't say that "The Shining" was horrible, but it didn't engage me enough while I was watching it. Great imagery, wonderful atmosphere, but it still felt... cold, I guess you could say.

Yeah, his pre-"Dr. Strangelove" films are considerably less interesting in terms of subject matter (for me anyway)...though I think "Lolita" could've been even better had he not had to work under that damn production code.

But I still believe most people would think "Fear and Desire" was his weakest after they'd seen it.

For the record, here's how I'd rank his films:

1. "2001"
2. "A Clockwork Orange"
3. "Dr. Strangelove"
4. "Eyes Wide Shut"
5. "Barry Lyndon"
6. "The Shining"
7. "Full Metal Jacket"
8. "Lolita"
9. "Paths of Glory"
10. "The Killing"
11. "Spartacus"
12. "Killer's Kiss"
13. "Fear and Desire"

He never made a bad film, but Full Metal Jacket is his least good, followed by Spartacus and The Shining. Haven't seen Fear and Desire or Killer's Kiss though.

Dr. Strangelove

For some reason I just don't like it.

That's my vote. I respect its brilliance and what it says and stands for, yet I don't know what it is I just get bored every time I watch it. This is especially odd considering Kubrick's my absolute favorite director of all-time and this is in his upper-upper-tier of films.

If you had your post would have gone something like: "He only made two bad films."

I am big Kubrick fan and the one film of his I could never stand was 2001. I understand its technological aspects and advanced but the film is the most bleeding boring and overrated film of all time.

Second would be Barry Lyndon, I am not a big fan of period pieces to begin with

I thought it was very boring. I tried to get into it but I couldn't.

I voted for A Clockwork Orange, because I hate British accents. They drive me freaking crazy. I wouldn't call it his "worst" movie just the one i disliked the most.

I am shocked to see the majority voting for Eyes Wide Shut. I loved that movie. Mostly because, when I saw the movie for the first time, it was when I had found out my girlfriend was cheating on me and I could relate to Tom Cruise's character. Constantly thinking about what might have happened between my girlfriend and the other guy.

i know im in the minority, but 2001 is one of my least favorite. there are others too that i liked and rated somewhere around this one, but i went with this one just because i find it so vastly overrated. i mean, i enjoyed it, but it didnt really do much for me after my long, tedious journey through space and beyond.

Eyes Wide Shut was his weakest out of the ones I've seen. Although overall, I would assume his worst is the one he bought all and destroyed himself.

I picked FMJ. For just about any other filmmaker it would be a masterstroke. For the master auteur Kubrick it's an engaging (1st half) yet uneven (2nd half) endeavor.

Pulp_Joker

Fear and Desire is by far his worst effort. Chalk it up to lack of experience and getting his feet wet, but there is no denying that it is a bad film. Killer's Kiss is a step up from that, but it still is a weak effort as well. After those two, everything has been at least good.

I voted FMJ but then remembered Spartacus. Oh well too late to change now. FMJ got kind of boring in it's second half (apart from sniper scene), but Spartacus was pretty boring all the way through, battle scenes aside.
