The list:

25. Bad Boys II
24. Caddyshack II
23. Star Wars Episode I - The Phantom Menace
22. Rocky V
21. Major League II
20. Jaws 3-D
19. Scary Movie 2
18. The Sting II
17. Legally Blonde 2
16. The Next Karate Kid
15. Battle for the Planet of the Apes
14. The Exorcist II: The Heretic
13. Be Cool
12. Son of the Mask
11. The Matrix Revolutions
10. Superman IV: The Quest for Peace
9. Speed 2: Cruise Control
8. Weekend at Bernies II
7. Blues Brothers 2000
6. Jason X
5. Staying Alive
4. Book of Shadows: Blair Witch 2
3. Dumb and Dumberer: When Harry Met Lloyd
2. Basic Instinct 2
1. Batman & Robin

Wow. Some of these are COMPLETELY disagree with.

I loved Matrix Revolutions, Rocky V and Phantom Menace.

Instead of Rocky V, they should have had Rocky IV which was a bad movie IMO.

I also liked Be Cool a lot.

And Speed 2, Basic Instinct 2, Bad Boys II, Weekend at Bernies 2 and Superman IV are guilty pleasures of mine.

Scary Movie 2 was actually okay. They should have had Scary Movie 3 and 4 instead. Those were worse.

And while Jaws 3-D was a mediocre movie, how could they not have Jaws: The Revenge on the list?!?!?!! Not just one of the worst sequels but one of the worst movies of all time.

This is actually a pretty crummy list.

I'm not going to defend Batman & Robin, because it is undeniably a bad movie but it's not the worst sequel IMO. There are at least a few I can think of that are far worse.

Weekend at Bernies II kicks ass! Rocky V isn't bad enough to be on this list.

Some of those movies are prequels, so they shouldn't be on the list. If I put some time into it, I could come up with a much better list.

Caddyshack II should be, er..."higher" on the list.

I'm just surprised at how few horror films are on the list. JASON X places that high though? I disagree. If anything JASON GOES TO HELL was worse but different strokes for different folks. Well thats all for now GOoD JOURNEY my fellow schmoes.

23. Star Wars Episode I - The Phantom Menace - Is this really a sequel? It sure does suck tho.

Well, it's not the only prequel on the list (see "Dumb and Dumberer"...not literally ;))...and, for my money, it shouldn't even be on the list (just another example of this old 'the movie in my head was better, so let's spite Lucas because of it' tirade against it ), nor should "Matrix Revolutions," which I realize heavily rips off the "Star Wars" and "Alien" series, but which I nonetheless didn't think was that bad. They can be replaced with, say, "Garfield 2" and "Charlie's Angels 2"...or maybe even "Scooby-Doo 2."

And hell, you could fill this whole list (and well beyond) with just horror sequels/prequels.

Luckily, I've only seen 4 of those.

I can see where Batman & Robin may be the worst sequel of all time as a sequel but fundamentally, there are much worse sequels.

Nice to see Battle of the Planet of the Apes on there. A piece of shit that could have easily been overlooked.

lets see.

LOVED Bad Boys 2, i couldnt really care what general opinion is.
Be Cool didnt completely suck, but i didnt like it either.
I liked Matrix Revolutions, and to call it one of the worst is horrible.
everything else ive either never seen or agree with.

Scary Movie 2 wasn't good, but it was still better than the awful Scary Movie 3 and 4.

Caddyshack 2 is a big guilty pleasure for some reason for me.

Bad Boys 2 is like an hour too long, but doesn't belong here.

I'm glad they put Jason X on here, I actually think that flick gets too much love.

Jason X is definitely not the worst of the F13 sequels. In comparison to atrocities such as Jason Goes to Hell and Jason Takes Manhattan, it looks like a masterpiece!

Blair Witch 2, Blues Brothers 2000 and Speed 2 all deserve their places in the top ten. Dreadful sequels.

Good point, but you're taking the thunder away from Part 3. :D

Hey at least things were changed up a bit in Part 3 (Buford taking the bet from Big and Little Enos, Snowman driving the Trans Am etc.), and some of the interaction between Buford and Junior was a riot ("Daddy, my face is all white." "Well put a lil lipstick on and I'll drop you at the gay bar."), plus we got some good gratuitous nudity to boot...

Part 2, on the other hand, is perhaps the most lifeless excuse for a retread I've ever seen, with a VERY stupid bet (drive an elephant to Texas??), the returning actors (especially Reynolds) giving new meaning to "going thru the motions", plot holes you can drive Snowman's truck thru (isn't there a time limit to get the elephant to Texas or is Bandit just able to take all the time he wants to "get back into shape"?), and worse of all Dom DeLuise stinking up the joint with a completely unfunny turn as the Italian animal doctor. All in all, WORST SEQUEL EVER...:D

Personally, I just deny the existence of all 4 of the "Apes" sequels...as well as "Alien"s, "Batman"s (1.0) and "Superman"s 3 & 4. ;)

I'm just surprised at how few horror films are on the list.

So was I.

But it's hard to argue with a lot of those. I liked Matrix Revolutions and the first Star Wars flick (I guess prequels are included in the list), but other than that, I agree with the rest.

What a list!
Here's some more dishonorable mentions:
Robocop 3-They killed it making it PG-13. At the end when Robocop put on his jetpack to escape the exploding building you could actually see the wires holding him up!
Jurassic Park III
Alien Resurrection
Short Circuit 2
Open Water 2
Gremlins 2
Lawnmower Man 2
Starship troopers 2
Any Meatballs sequel
House of the Dead 2 (Which is quite a feat considering how much the first one sucked!)
Friday the 13th part VIII: Jason Takes Manhattan

I cannot respect a person any more than I can respect a person who makes me want to rewatch Smokey and the Bandit 3, which you've just done. The truth is, I actually hadn't seen this one since it was probably 1st on HBO, so that was totally unfair.

Recently I'd read the entry in Leonard Maltin's movie guide for this one, and he mentioned that it was originally filmed as "Smokey is the Bandit" with Gleason playing both Smokey and the Bandit, but test audiences were so confused that they refilmed it as the current version. Hell, I'd like to see that really.

There's another part to the story. If you'd seen Bill & Ted's Bogus Journey - there's a scene where I think Plato is playing charades with like Einstein and other famous dead people. It's aways been hilarious, but after reading that trivia bit, it became on of my favorite jokes ever. I hope you've seen this or I'm being totally pointless here.

But back to the sequels ---

I too liked Gremlins 2. In a lot of ways I think it's superior to the first one, which I'd only rank higher because of its more-or-less a holiday movie, and I like that kind of stuff. Part 2 had a lot of really great stuff including friggin' Grandpa Munster. To me, the took a clever gimmick that worked in one film, and made it fresh by taking a whole new approach.

Here's some other sequels that I've found to be truly horrible:

Mannequin 2
Look Who's Talking 2/Look Who's Talking Now
Chronicles of Riddick
American Psycho 2
House 2
An American Werewolf in Paris
Howling 2: Your Sister is a Werewolf

An urban legend to be sure, but more than likely true. Originally Smokey 3 had Gleason playing both roles (in order to portray that Bandit had gotten fat and old), but test audiences were reportedly so baffled and confused that reshoots were done at the last minute with Snowman (who wasn't originally gonna be in the movie), taking over the mantle because Big and Little Enos (in some poorly dubbed over dialogue) decided they couldn't trust Bandit. No one knows if that lost Gleason footage even still exists, but it sure would be fascinating...:D

Rawlin don't do it! Dude I'm for real! The movie is utter shit! The first one was bad-good due to some tit shots, the ever panning camera, and some funny zombie and people deaths (especially dude at the end that gets his head stomped and his brain comes out like popped biscuit can!). The sequel is just shit.

Thought it was great. The different "variety" of gremlins running around; the intelligent one singing "New York, New York" topped it all off for me.

I liked how it was able to parody itself ("itself" being the first one) and be fun while doing it.

That's not a great list. I could name some much worse sequels. The following however, are pretty accurate in my opinion, but still, some may not be top 25 worst material.

Caddyshack II- Haven't seen it.
Jaws 3-D
The Sting II
The Next Karate Kid
Battle for the Planet of the Apes
Son of the Mask
Superman IV: The Quest for Peace
Speed 2: Cruise Control
Basic Instinct 2

And Batman & Robin was good times, no matter how bad it was.
