In your opinion what are some of the singers with the most unique voices. not nessesarily the best voices, just really unique. from any type of music during any time period (living or dead).
Some of my choices:
one of my personal favs: Chino of the Deftones
Louis Armstrong
Layne Staley (Alice in Chains) another favorite, RIP
Travis Meeks (Days of the New)
Janis Joplin
Steven Tyler-Aerosmith (unique voice and unique singing style)
Tim Armstrong and Lars from Rancid
Les Claypool (Primus)

Without a fucking doubt the BEST IS Liam Gallagher of Oasis, also there is Jim Morrison and lastly, to me, is Lou Reed

I think we're going with most unique, not the best overall. Liam has an interesting voice, kinda snarly. In terms of singing ability, I think Noel has him beat.

still though, its UNIQUE cuz its different than most singers, and it works. Its as if john lennon was a rocker... but seriously though, as a BIG oasis fan...obviously... for nice ballads, Noels singing is great, but for overall i want to rock type of voice, definitly Liam.. Unique is the key

Nah, considering Maynard James Keenan came before him.
yeah, i thought about that later. i was going to put Maynard up there too. I love the song they do together on White Pony, Passenger. that's a great freakin song right there!

There were some I didn't want to put just because I felt there's other singers who thye could be confused with - like Thom Yorke - Coldplay and Clinic's singers both sound a lot like 'em.
Then I wanted to put John Lydon, but he's been imitated so many times - Hell, Fred Schnider of the B52s sounds pretty close.

I bet you wanted to list Colonel Sanders jr from the killers but kept thinking of meatloaf, what about that douche bag from the arctic monkeys? His voice is pretty unique out side of Sheffield market fruit stall.

Wow, I wish he'd been called Smookie instead...that's a way better name.
Most have already been mentioned,
Nico
Scott Walker
Tom Waits
Morrissey
Rufus Wainwright
Bryan Ferry
Daniel Johnston
Nick Drake
Neil Diamond
David Byrne
Randy Newman
Joanna Newsom
Donovan
Will Oldham
Marc Bolan was unique until Devendra Banhart came along. I like both very much, but Banhart does seem to channel Bolan quite a bit.
Ian Curtis was completely unique up until recent years...I still think you can't mistake his distinct slightly off-key vocals, but there are a lot of poor imitations knocking about.

na i was just trying to name people who's voices you could recognise anywhere, the douche bags voice when first heard was pretty easy to pick out now with a glut of copycat bands like reverend and the makers and milburn its not so easy to spot, and colonel saunders whilst having a decent voice is not that unique now i will add one or two more.
