There's 2 male performances that i really enjoyed this year. Mark Ruffalo in "Zodiac" and recently Russell Crowe in "American Gangste". As for the female side... uummmm... gotta think about it.... wow.. cant think of anything that has struck me as a WOW performance.. pretty medicore for females this year...guess i'll say Resse Witherspoon in "Rendition" only comes to mind right now.

From what I've seen this year (not much) Russel Crowe pretty much owns it.

Havent even seen the movie yet but from the previews alone I will grant Daniel Day Lewis the number one spot.
Some other performances that stood out for me were Mark Ruffalo and Robert Downey Jr in Zodiac. They were both EXCELLENT.
I will also give some love to the two stars in Bug. Michael Shannon and Ashley Judd were terrific as well.
And obviously Javier Bardhem for his villian role in No Country for Old Men. He was truely terrifying.
Big year for Josh Brolin. He was excellent in No Country and was a scene stealer in Grindhouse.
Back to Zodiac for a second, but I have hated on Jake Gyllenhaal in the past but I have to eat my words here. He was wonderful in Zodiac and really held his own.
