Warner Home Video has officially announced The Assassination of Jesse James By the Coward Robert Ford which stars Brad Pitt, Casey Affleck, Sam Shepard, and Molly Parker. This Andrew Dominik directed film will be available to own from the 5th February, and should retail at around $27.95. The film itself will be presented in anamorphic widescreen, along with an English Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround track. As far as we know, no extra material will be included on this one.
I really want to see this, but I'm sure it will go the same route as Zodiac with a Special Edition being released a couple of months after. So if thats the case I'll just rent it and wait.

this flick owned! I hope they announce a 2 disc before the single disc hits DVD, so i can wait, cuz i think that if there isnt one announced.. i will buy this edition! But i want some extras!
maybe the lack of HD and Blue Ray announced gives it a chance of a 2 disc set?!

I'll double dip on this great film.
Though, like Little Children, I don't foresee an SE.

I would love to see extras, but...it would kill the mystery and mood and general awesomeness of the film if I had everybody pontificating on the importance of Jesse James. This film exists in a weird little universe of its own -- the play's the thing, said Shakespeare, so is this particular DVD.
And, I can't go another JJ thread without saying, once again: fuck you, WB. You really screwed the pooch on this one.

I want a commentary by Pitt and Affleck . . . director wouldn't hurt either.
Don't know if I want to pick this up or not. Great movie, but I think this one will count on what extras it has.

Definitely have to get this, while I wouldn't mind hearing a commentary, I'm not really bothered about a lack of extras.

Easy pick up for me. My favorite of the year. The lack of features really sucks tho, you know it really seems like Warners. hated everything about this movie and could care less how it did and does.

Disappointed of the lack of features, but a film definitely worthy of a double-dip.

Since it's Warner, they're will be the bare-bones single disc edition, a two-disc special edition and HD DVD and Blu-Ray releases.

I really hope Warner at some point plans to release the original cut that was intended before hands were forced (as I heard), cos I really liked would like to see it without the narration as I heard it originally was. That narration was the only thing I didn't like about the movie.

I wasn't that big a fan of the narration either. Was I the only one that felt that the style of the film often felt forced? Either way though, I did like this film a lot and has grown on me a lot more the more I think about it.

I liked the narration toward the beginning, but when it's playing over the last shot of the movie, I was very annoyed, because those last 30 seconds or so should've just been silence, I would've liked that a lot more.

Yeah, it did. But, as I've heard, the original cut had less of the narration and more scenes that fleshed out the story. The suits decided that the running time needed to be axed down and narration needed to be added to pretty much say "HERE IS WHAT'S HAPPENING DUMBASS"
