Hey guys, I couldn't find a thread similar to this one, so here goes.

What movies that only have a bare bones release that you are aching to have Special Editions of? You know, the cool movie you'd like to see a new DVD put out with behind the scenes, and maybe a commentary or two?

Mars Attacks! came to my mind today. Mostly because it's a Tim Burton film, with an all-star cast, and some pretty early and unique CG work. I'd definately double dip for this one. Although it's not one of my all time favorite movies, it is very fun and has grown on me over the years.

Any other suggestions?

Gremlins (2-disc) I really, really, really want a special edition of Gremlins with a brand new hour and half documentary, new transfer and sound, keep the commentaries from the other release, original screenplay, and original poster art as the cover.

And a better JAWS special edition would be nice. The 30th anniversary could have been so much better...

Shaun of the Dead (should've gotten the treatment Hot Fuzz got, especially since it's by far the better of the two)

Yeah.

I wouldn't say its BY FAR the better of the two.

But on the same note, and probably not necessarily meant for this thread, but with the release of the Hot Fuzz 3-Disc Edition, they should have released a nice edition of Shaun of the Dead, and also should have released Edgar Wright's Fistful of Fingers. I have not seen it, but you would think they could release his debut film now to bank of the success of the two most recent films.

As I started the tread I'll be checking back periodically to add more of my own, and comment on others suggestions.

Waterworld-
Thought of this one before getting back to the forum today. It would be great to get a retrospective SE on this. This has got to have tons of the original behind the scenes footage and interviews just gathering dust somewhere. I'd love to get new interviews with the cast, especially Kostner & Hopper, about their thoughts on the experience, and all the controversy surrounding the film while it was being made. A director's & actor's commentary would be too awesome. Won't hold my breath waiting for this one as I doubt it will ever happen. People are pretty split down the middle about this movie. Love it or hate it. I enjoy it in a cheesy Saturday morning popcorn cartoonish way. Brainless good times. Anybody know if there is still a Waterworld show in Las Vegas?

Cemetary Man (Dellamorte Dellamore)-
Finally to DVD in the US this year, no features though. However, there is a R2 Italian version put out by Medusa Home Entertainment with making of feature, & directors commentary (in Italian) that is available. To bad nobody took the time to bring them over to the US edition and translate the commentary into subtitles. Bastards! My all time favorite zombie movie. Anchor Bay really dropped the ball on this one.

Shaun of the Dead-
This was pretty already packed with features & commentaries, but I think the UK R2 had a few more than the US Rogue Pictures version for some reason.

Dead Man-
Oh yeah! Commentary by Jarmusch & Depp. I just noticed the French R2 version is listed at 148 minutes on Amazon.fr, anybody know if this has features or is an extended cut of the film? The US version is listed at 121 min.

The Breakfast Club-
Two US editions out and not a feature worth mentioning. Ripe for a SE, along with Sixteen Candles, Ferris Bueller's Day Off, and Weird Science for the Hughes fans. Why fuck has he distanced himself from these movies? I'd double dip on any and all of those with a Hughes commentary. Retrospective interviews with cast are also in order.

The Game-
Definately overdue! I'd double dip just for a Fincher commentary.

3000 Miles to Graceland-
Every time I think of picking up a copy of this I wish it had some features. Hell of a fun movie. Doubt it ever gets the treatment though.

Raising Arizona-
Definately overdue. Another one the Coen's need to comment on.

Barton Fink-
Ditto above.

Two new ones from me today:

Crime Wave-
Hasn't even had an official US DVD release. WTF? A commentary with Raimi and Campbell would be cool, and another by the Coen Brothers.

Night of the Comet-
Guess we should be happy this one finally hit DVD this year, too bad this cult classic came bare bones. A retrospective would have been nice.

Supposedly Raimi has disowned this one, I believe due to conflicts with the producers, so it's doubtful he would take part. It IS good, though...

The Road To Wellville-
Sir Anthony Hopkins, Bridget Fonda, Matthew Broderick, John Cusack, & Dana Carvey in a bawdy period comedy. Love a directors commentary for this one.

Adventures Of Baron Munchausen-
Can't believe I didn't think of this sooner. Arguably my favorite Gillaim movie. Would really love some features and a Gilliam commentary. One of his few left without the SE treatment. No brainer double dip.

I wouldn't consider either of them barebones though they may not be 3 disk happy ending editions but Goonies has some nice special features like the video commentary. How many DVD's have that?

Thought of 2 more
Waterworld! This movie is so overdue for a SE treatment I'm dying for them to release the directors cut I saw on Starz! a few years back.

Needful Things- not Kings greatest adaptation but I've been waiting for the longer cut shown on TNT & TBS to show itself on shiny disk

300 - I know they came out with a 2-disc version but the 2nd disc didn't feel comprehensive enough. Most of it was standard EPK stuff, and the featurettes, as much as I love them, are just recycled from the website. It would have been nice to see them put more effort into the BHS footage. Especially the training. Want to see the performers painfully going through training.

V For Vendetta - Another 2-disc set that felt really bare.

The Fountain - I have the German version which is a really nice release but, I still feel like there was more behind it. I'm wishing for this one to get the Criterion treatment.

Children of Men - Didn't pick this up because I saw how bare-bones this release is. I will wait a bit longer.

The Rocketeer, True Lies, Mars Attacks, Dead Man, Ratatouille, Cars

Also, any of the old Jet Li & Jackie Chan movies from the 80s. I'm sure there is some footage of them on set doing choreography and stunts floating around somewhere! Unfortunately, the chinese don't know squat about releasing special editions and BTS features. The only decent releases I've seen for some are from Hong Kong Legends.

All of Luc Besson's movies need a director's commentary. I don't think he's done a single one. Not even on the R2 French DVDs. Love the man's work.

.... what more do you want from a "Shaun of the Dead" DVD release? I think they've pretty much covered all the bases (although I think the R2 version has a few small extras). I'm not trying to downplay your wishes, but multiple commentaries, video diaries, and making of, sort of covers the bases. Strike back if you think I'm wrong, but I think it's taken care of.

Don't get me wrong. I love the movie, check my profile for pics of me, Simon and Nick.

All I'm saying about this is:

Please justify your wants for it. What's missing? As it stands, it's head and shoulders above many DVD releases. Got no problem if I'm wrong about this, just tell me why.

New ones:

World According To Garp

Razor's Edge

Both first major dramatic performances by the known comedians, but both show why they are more than Oscar worthy. At least 15 years before Lost In Translation Murry really shows his chops. Wish there was a director's commentary, and an actors commentary, plus making of and behind the scenes.

P. S. The super-hottie from this movie plays the wife if Sandman in Spiderman3. Good to see you again Theresa Russell! Man, I've got a hardon for her.

and well anything besides from his newer American films, and please please include original language tracks I'm tired of seeing drunken master in English on the TV.

Then a giant Grindhouse box set with both films and trailers on 1 disc, then a 2nd disc with the same two films and trailers but have them the uncut versions or something, then extras on disc 3.
Release them in high def so that when I get to that stage I could easily trade them in.

Original behind the scenes, great retrospective with current interviews from the cast, director's commentary, and especially a commentary track by Mel for sure! (The last one is the clincher for a no brainer double dip!)

(and don't forget the digital remastering!)

This is my very first post and it's a list. Quite suitable since I do enjoy making them. I'm an importer with a bias to my native signal format, NTSC. Even though I'm unsure as to how my Oppo 971H handles PAL signals as I'm yet to purchase any PAL DVD's. Those two being They Live and Starman S.E.'s from the UK. Ok, barring my own collection, here's the Special Edition, multi-disc, Director's Cut and what have you of whichever may apply in the listing below.
Here goes:
