I saw this on a different thread somewhere and thought this was pretty neat and would introduce it here:

So say you have to explain to someone why (insert your favorite band here) are the most amazing thing ever, and you have to pick 30 seconds from any song of theirs to exhibit your point. What do you choose?

Mine would have without a doubt be 1:56-2:21 of I Want You (She's So Heavy) by, who else could be my favorite, the Beatles. It's an intense blues sound in the middle of a rock song. The guitar is chilling, Paul's playing one of the craziest bass lines I've ever heard. Great fuckin music.

I would ask them to listen to thirty seconds of ANY Smiths song.

The best single thing I can think of for the Beatles would be the vocal chorus interlude between Ringo's and John's sections of A Day in the Life (2:45-3:15).

I decided to go with the Chili Peppers. I think they're one of the best music acts in history, and a little snippet to back that up?

3:17 - 4:00 in the song "Tear".

:D
My favorite song on the album, though I like how the song ends the best.
So hypnotizing for a couple minutes...then it just cuts out. Amazing

from 00:50 to 01:20 of Eclipse(Pink Floyd)
Its not the same as listenening to Brain Damage and Eclipse together, not nearly as powerful or profound. Yet I still get the shivers just listening to the last 30 seconds of Dark Side.

Probably the last 30-45 seconds of Rob Dougan's Furious Angels.

And just for fun - the first 30 seconds or so of Queen's Flash Gordon theme.
