I remember as a kid wanting to invent this... looks fantastic. It'll be great not having to switch guitars for every other song.

Did I learn how to tune by ear for nothing?

I don't know if this isn't new technology or if I just heard about the development a while back - Either way, it seems pretty cool on the surface, however I question the reliability. Electronic tuners, even though giving a great idea, do require a little bit of finesse to get the tuning just right. Also, the way I'm understanding - will this thing will be constantly tuning? I mean you usually tune past the note your hitting, then stretch the string for the right pitch. I mean, it's a bit past just turning the peg.

These damn kids with their Guitar Hero and their self-tuning guitars!

Okay, we all knew I was heading there.

Probably what make me mostly skeptical is because in 1992 - 1994, I played with a drummer who had a pretuned drum set - in that you didn't tune the heads, just bought them pretuned. Jesus that thing sounded like shit in no time --- It didn't help that he idolized Dave Grohl and would perform assult on his drums, more than so much playing.

Yeah, I know it's just it's a different technology and so on, I'm just finding that there's no substitute for human ear when it comes to tuning. I've heard local electronic bands running sequencers that were out of tune with one another, for instance.

Ah, what the hell - It'll probably be really cool, and definitely easier for practice -- I doubt they'll be used as much in studios, or performance as much, but we'll see fo' sho.

From what I understand, you can't use the tuner mid-solo... lets say, as an example, you're in the middle of playing YYZ, you can't just press then blue "tune" button and continue shredding. You have to STOP, press the button, wait a few seconds, let it tune, and once the light turns OFF, then you can continue...

takes about two seconds.

It's not going to change the way people play the guitar, but it will allow for more songs on stage, which is a good thing. And if your guitar suddenly goes out of tune... no problem... Stop. Press the button. Tune. Continue...

Most of you probably disagree with me, but in rock music, I don't think everything needs to sound exactly right. Just turn each knob all the way up and fucking drown out anything that sounds a bit off.

But, then again, I'm a pretty conventional guitar player. I almost always use standard tuning. This would be great for live shows with numerous tunings, as it's been already mentioned.

Just seems like more shit to fuck up on your guitar. I think I'll take the extra MINUTE or so and tune it myself.
