I've probably only heard about 50% of his work (if that)...his back catalogue seems endless. My favourite is Blue Valentine, followed by Rain Dogs.

I don't know. The thing about Tom Waits is that all of my favorite songs by him are all scattered about. There is no perfect Tom Waits record for me, but there are a million perfect songs. I guess Rain Dogs is his best overall.

Rain Dogs is his most thoroughly great, but The Black Rider and Closing Time are my favorites.

I love Rain Dogs... it was the first album I'd heard and still one of my favorites, although I love the Black Rider for its vaudeville influence and Bone Machine for its scratchy, rough textured sound. Waits is just too much of a bad ass in music. A league of his own.

Bone Machine, and Swordfishtrombones. Rain Dogs, too. There are few people on the planet cooler than Tom Waits.

Blue Valentine tops the list. kentucky ave. is one of the greatest songs ever.
Big Time and Mule varations come to mind. Everything he's touched is better then what most other artists even dream of.

Its the only one that I have not really got into, but BCV has it on c.d., so I may give it a whirl next time I have a moment.
