So I bought a small HDTV for my bedroom. I am now saving up for 5.1 sound, as well as some HD content. I am purchasing a PS3, for gaming, but it also allows for Blu-Ray. I was wondering if it is worth it to also purchuse an HD-DVD player. I only have a 720p/1080i set, so I can go with the cheaper HD-DVD player and be fine, correct? Or should I stick with Blu? I don't think I can live without Universal films. Buying these players also gets me 5 Blu, and 5 HD-DVD for free. I have a poor-man's Quad Speaker System now. It can only run in stereo (output on 4 speakers), so sound is OKAY. I am thinking of getting a PS3, then new speakers, then HD-DVD.

I would say wait until one DVD system takes over the other. I doubt they will both last equally as well as the other, so one will probably progress and sign on with all film companies and become the new DVD, like when DVD's took over VHS.

19". I don't know how well received this dimension is on these forums, but elsewhere, sheesh... all I get is negative comments. It's too small they say, why bother they say, you wasted money they say. Quite honestly, this 19" HDTV works wonders for me. It is the perfect size. Are they just assuming this is my main tv, for use in a living room or what? I'm 18. I bought it for my bedroom. My bedroom isn't the size of an entire house. It looks fine. :p
And yes, I can see the difference between upconverted SD and HD on this set, even at 19".

I just bought a 720p/1080i 26" LCD HDTV and the HD-A3 HDDVD player, and I must say even after just watching my DVD's upconverted I'm convinced that my purchase was worth it.
I definitely don't think you wasted your money, it's worth it even for a smaller TV.
Also, Amazon is currently offereing 12 HDDVD's with the purchase of a player, so I'd go with that if I were you it more than plays for the player. The only reason I didn't get Bluray is because
1) it's too expensive, i'm on a limited budget
2) i don't play video games, so getting a PS3 would kinda be a waste
But anyways, I can speak for the HD-A3 player (which I got for $200 through Best Buy), and it's definitely worth the money (I've also noticed that on my screen at least, 720p looks better than 1080i).
