Vanilla Sky...its got the good love story ala Jerry Maguire but mixed with Total Recall altered reality badassness. The best of both worlds!

I voted for Almost Famous. It's a great coming of age story and it uses classic rock as the soundtrack which I will be bias towards.
Congrats on your 100 post

Elizabethtown...and I know I'm in the minority with this one.

Almost Famous, but Vanilla Sky was also the best movie of its year. Crowe's incredible and reliable, despite the misfire of Elizabethtown.

Personally, I always credit him far more than Amy Heckerling for Fast Times. It's his script, based on his book, based on his experiences. As far as I'm concerned that film, which I adore, is his.
His record is really mixed. He got off to such a strong start, with Fast Times, Say Anything and Singles. I thought he was emerging as someone who could help define film for his (and my) generation. He had the detour with the popular but (for me) pretty empty and banal Jerry Maguire. When he emerged from that four years later with what is, so far, his masterpiece, Almost Famous, I thought he was back on the rails.
Alas, since then his infatuation with Cruise has, much like Marty's bizarre and beyond distressing belief that Leonardo DiCaprio is a leading man, led him badly astray. Vanilla Sky was pointless (as a quick remake of a very much superior film) and, even ignoring that, a big bag of shit (I'm on record about this here, over and over.)
His malaise continued with the twee and almost literally sickening Elizabethtown. A film badly hampered by a lame ass and clichéd story and truly bad casting (Dunst has no business in a Crowe film...Bloom was pretty awful, but I guess I can at least be happy Crowe didn't hire Zach Braff...)
I hope he can pull out of this and get back to what he does best, because he has tremendous talent, but he needs to get a grip. And change his phone number, without giving the new one to Cruise.

Never seen Almost Famous, which seems to get universal praise. Of the rest Vanilla Sky is easily the best. Tom Cruise surprised me in that one.

Had to go with Jerry Maguire, narrowly beating out Say Anything and Almost Famous. Can't go wrong with practically any of these choices, though, Crowe knows his shit.

Cameron Crowe:
1. Say Anything. . .
The greatest teenage love story ever put on film, and Cameron Crowe's true masterpiece. With wonderful dialogue that still resonates.
2. Almost Famous
An extremely close second. I prefer the longer Untitled cut. My favorite scene: Kate Hudson in the empty auditorium with a single long-stem rose and Cat Stevens' The Wind on the soundtrack.
3. Jerry Maguire
Don't listen to anybody who says this film is empty. A complex and moving story that never takes the easy way out. With what I believe to be the best performance of Tom Cruise's career. Only overshadowed by one line that has been quoted way too much.
4. Singles
If Fast Times chronicled those teen years, Singles was for those in their mid-20s. Honest and original, but also a little shallow and pointless. Which, I don't know, may be its point.
5. Elizabethtown
Painfully miscast. Orlando Bloom in particular. Also, Crowe wallowed too much in his own style, rather than try and break any new ground.
6. Vanilla Sky
Here, Crowe did try something different. And for a while, it works. Then it begins to unravel and it does so rather quickly. It all adds up to one big mess. Still has some startling and very effective scenes.

So i finally caught Singles and i must say, it was NOT a second movie slump. It is a great flick and reccomend it to everyone who likes those boy looks for girl, finds girl, loses girl, wants girl back type of film. Crowes only slump is Elizabethtown. I WAS BORED WATCHING IT, wrong choice choosing Bloom, that guy sucks acting in a regular role, or any role in general.

THREE lines, actually...the 'money' line, the 'complete' line, and the 'hello' line.

Almost Famous for me followed by Say Anything, Vanilla Sky, and Jerry Maguire in that order.
Still need and want to see Singles. Elizabethtown doesn't interest me at all.
