View Full Version : A TEAM GETS A DIRECTOR.........

............JOHN SINGLETON
The film has been in development for years, but only now is it finally gaining momentum.
The TV-Show, which ran from 1983-87 and starred George Peppard and Mr. T, concerned an unofficial team of Vietnam vets wanted by the military for a crime they didn't commit. Their action-packed adventures combined helping the innocent while running from the law.
Stephen J. Cannell, who created the show, will produce the movie with Spike Seldin. Mark Silvestri will exec produce. Alex Young will oversee the pic at Fox.
The new "A-Team" will be updated from the Vietnam era and reflect contemporary issues and politics. Tone of the film will be less cartoony and more serious, in the vein of "Die Hard" and "Lethal Weapon."
Not to long along Cannell did share some info on the project; "Not to denigrate the TV show, but nobody ever died," Cannell said. "We drove cars off cliffs and people got out and walked away. We're not going to do that (in the movie). In this the tone is more dangerous -- you can really die. It's very tense and exciting."
Cannell also said he hopes to attract old and new fans alike, but ultimately the film has to stand on its own.
Now does this mean that John is going to cast frequent collaborator Tyrese Gibson as B.A. Baracus? I pity the fool if he does. Maybe he can get Ving Rhames, he's done movies with Singleton before.
Or maybe they might go Teen Titians A-Team style.
So where does that leave EXECUTIVE ORDER: SIX for John Singleton, which was announced last month?
HMMM are they going for a 'swat' vibe?

Eh... Singleton's not really an action director I'd say. The closest thing he has to an action film is 2 Fast 2 Furious and that was plain garbage. I'll pass.
I'm getting sick of this hard on everybody seems to have with 80's shit. It's dead. Let it go. It's not coming back. It ain't cool anymore, you nostalgic bastards! LET IT GO! I grew up in the 80's but that doesn't mean they need to update the Centurians and turn that into a movie...
Oh shit, I shouldn't have said that, now somebody's going to update it!
Watch, in another fifteen years we're going to see them "update" Biker Mice from Mars.
Producer: "Yeah, we decided to make it more gritty this time. I mean, they are Biker Mice after all. Whose to say they don't have bar fights on Mars? We want to see their pain and struggles... Biker Mice are people too!"

They should just call it something different... no one will know.

I'm not really against an A-Team movie but only AND I DO MEAN ONLY Mr. T should ever play BA Baracus...:D

Four Brothers was a decent action movie...
As for the A-Team... the chances of this not sucking are thin too slim.

That surprises me a little. I figured they'd just hire some music video hack/first time director for this.
Regardless, I have no interest. But I did find the action/stunts in 2 Fast 2 Furious to surprisingly good, so I'd say he can do action just fine.

A friend of mine, who's a big wrestling fan, just posted on his facebook page that Rampage Jackson was cast to play B.A. Baracus.
Haven't heard any confirmation but if it's true that means that:
Liam Neeson: Hannibal Smith
Bradley Cooper: Faceman Peck
Rampage Jackson: B.A. Baracus

Rampage Jackson? Are you kidding me? Watch season 10 of ultimate fighter to find out what kind of fucking douchebag this guy is.

I love Neeson; but he sure as hell ain't George Peppard.
Peppard was John "Hannibal" Smith through and through.

Okay, I'm not a UFC fan so I could really care less about Rampage's antics in and out of the cage, but is his being in the movie really going to stop other people from seeing it?

That picture is just too fucking awesome for words.
As for Rampage Jackson, he's sort of a jackass & asshole - at least in the new season of the Ultimate Fighter in which he his a coach. So far the other coach, Rashad Evans, is making him look like a fool in comparision. He's occasionally funny though which could be promising.
I never watched the series but the pic of Neeson sold it for me, I want to see this movie.

You won't get any objection from me on that. The dude carried District 9.

The leaked trailer has completely sold me on Liam Neeson and Sharlto Copley. The latter is going to have a huge career, and he really deserves it. Still not sure about Bradley Cooper, and I don't like the guy playing BA. Then again, Mr T was never the greatest actor, and as long as the dude can throw a punch convincingly, it's not too much of a problem.

I didn't even realize Sharlto Copley was in the film until I watched the trailer. As therealjohng said, this guy is going to be a star. He seems to be channeling Murdock well--even the hat rocks on him.
Still, I'm not sold on the film yet.

It's not one of my top movies of all time, but I enjoy the holy fuck out of that movie. I'll never really understand all the hate about it; it wasn't trying to be anything other than a really fun, cool, and kick-ass flick...which it was.

JF is such a badass because she used the search function instead of making a new thread. Nice.
Trailer got me fuckin' pumped, especially the tank bit with Bradley Cooper, which I thought was just the right degree of ridiculous. Gonna be sweet.

It looks like a blast! But the main reason why this movie will be so much fun: Liam badass Neeson! Oh and the hotness of Jessica Biel. A little disappointed at the lack of Biel in the trailer. Only a brief kissing with Bradley Cooper. Oh, well.
Can't wait. Going to be great fun!

This looks ridiculous, much like the A-Team show so at least they got the mood right. I'm not digging Rampage as B.A. though. He just doesn't seem to capture the aura and the bad ass feel that Mr.T had. Plus, I can think of a number of guys that should be B.A. over Rampage. Specifically, Terry Crews (Mean looking motherfucker who can act when necessary, play a convincing badass, and is really funny. He should've been B.A.), Bob Sapp (Scary looking dude who can balance being funny with looking like he could destroy you), and Erik King (Sgt. Doakes on Dexter. I just got a Mr. T vibe from him for some reason).

I think the casting of the movie is terrific; 3 out of 4 of the main characters are coming off big hits: Neeson in Taken, Cooper in The Hangover, and Sharlto Copley in District 9. I had never heard of Rampage Jackson before this, so we'll see how he does, but he's got a great cast around him.

The trailer looks totally ridiculous, but my friends, I WILL be seeing this for one reason and one reason only:

And that's all I need! Well, I guess that having Wikus is also a neat bonus. But I'm in this for Schindler. Damn, 2010 is looking up to be the year of the Neeson; he's like the next Ian McKellen in terms of taking a long and respectable stage-and-screen career and turning it into more big-budget mainstream blockbuster fare.
