Anybody here have that big collection. In that your friends go to you instead to borrow new movies then go to rental place.
People come to me a lot. I don't really care. If they break it they buy me new on. I also made deal with friend. He gave me shelfs because of that He can borrow anything that He wants. He is so far 100% bringing them back. Also get some bake goods from the borrows dvd's.
Does these happen to anybody here. I'm just wonduring :)

yea its been like that for years. Friends, family, coworkers. I have lost a few dvds over the year because of it too sadly (I replaced them eventually). It's what you get when you have 1100+ dvds.

Ya, I'm a huge renter myself, glad I got DVD Profiler to manage my collection and to remember who has my movies. I know I've lost a couple movies over the years because I borrow them to people and forget to get them back.

Yeah, people want to borrow, but everyone I know understands that I don't lend out my DVDs. Doesn't bother me one bit that I have to tell all of them "No"

Yeah I've pretty much regulated who I lend them out to, which is mainly two people and no one else. I borrow from them too so it's all good.

I have about 2300, and I get a lot of friends and cousins that like to borrow and I can't bring myself to be a dick. But that's resulted in having several out right now not in my possession, so upon receiving them all back...I'm gonna have to be a movie nazi with my DVDs.

I got about 700 and while I write down what everybody borrows there's nothing I can do when my cousins/friends lose them. And I dont like being a dick but I think I reserve the right to kick their ass when my disc comes back scratched.

in my case, yes it comes with the price when you have over 1100 dvds in your collection and every week you spend over 300 dolars in dvds cuase I never rent I buy dvds.
I have no friends so the only person I lend out to my cousin and his bro. I hate his bro he is 30 and kills my dvds!!!! the one that takes care on them is 17 and knows how pissed off I get. I stoped letting them borrow them for some time. I don't mean to be a dick as well but I get nothing out of it but a dvd I have to replace.
So I stoped.

I used to let people borrow my dvds whenever they wanted, but this stopped after I lent out an early copy of Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban (The guy I used to buy my dvds from managed to get copies a few weeks before the street date) and it ended up "doing the rounds" - took me six months to get it back, so now the only people who lend 'em are the family, who I know will return 'em in perfect condition.

Okay, I'm glad it's not just me. It started out innocently enough; people would ask to take one or two with them when they left my place. No big deal. (Honestly, reviewing 2-3 DVDs a week for the site means that my collection just sits there anyways.) But then one day I noticed a third of my movies were gone and I had no idea who had what or exactly what was missing. I haven't seen my ANCHORMAN DVD in over a year and that pisses me off.
The majority of my friends aren't giant movie fans, so I'm more than happy to let them ransack my collection to discover old classics or indie stuff. (And I pretty much force everyone I meet to take Arrested Development season 1.) But some people abuse my good nature and I'm too much of a pansy to do anything. Like one girl who I know has had 15+ of my movies for the past six months. Whenever I see her we make small talk, but the entire time I'm thinking, "You have my BRAVEHEART DVD, don't you... Give it back, you thieving trollop!"
I got DVD Profiler to manage my collection and to remember who has my movies.
Is that a free software? Because it sounds a lot easier than my current plan of making people manually sign out movies in blood.

Due don't feel bad it's haapen to all of us dvd fans. They know we spend are entire check on movies and they to see whats out there and know why rent when you can get it for free.
im like you there are alot of dvds in my collection that I must pass around to get the word that this is a great/epic film!!! (LEON:THE PROFESSIONAL):D.
Well im sorry im no video store!!! I had a girl from my senior class 3 years ago and she borrowed my monthy python holly grail dvd and never seen it since.
I don't mean to be rude to you but you have to have the balls to ask "hey did you see my dvd yet? Do you mind If i can take it back I want to rewatch it".:D

my collection is not as big as some in this thread (it's currently at 676 dvds and 723 titles) i really try and not lend any out, just family really. i've put alot of time and money into the collection and i'd rather not have any of it go missing. just yesterday i had to re-buy out of sight. i went to watch it opened the case and the dvd was missing, after an exhaustive search it was not found so i had to re-buy. that's why i don't loan stuff out, even though i can't remember loaning that out.

Ive had horror stories from lending out dvds for one i let someone at work borrow a few dvds i dont remember the titles but instead of coming to me and asking if they could borrow it they took it from my coworker and basically kept it. When I asked my coworker if they were done with the dvds they told me "I let Junior borrow it from the night crew". I dont fucking know no Junior.
That pisses me off the worst when people do that, to know one persons dvd care ethics then they lend it to someone else that you dont know if they are snorting coke lines off your shit.
So i dont lend to nobody that i dont know where they live. My moms been trying to loan my dvds out at work. im kinda iffy about that.

Same here. I actually just got my Godfather Trilogy back after making a friend watch them all because he hadn't yet. There are some people I let borrow, and some I don't............ My only casualty is the Dazed and Confused part of my Fast times at Ridgemont hight/ Dazed and Confused two pack... Fucking motherfucker who has that needs a kick in the balls.
I also lend The Professional to all who doubt its greatness.

this happens to my aunt since they buy at least 4 or more news dvds like a week so lots of my family goes there but we have quite a good collection.

With the exception of my mom and dad, no family ever visits my place.
I keep my dvds hidden from my friends so they just don't know what I have (hence they can't borrow). I used to give out dvds for friends to watch like crazy, but too often did they come back in poor shape or just did not come back at all. The heck with that I say.

Yeah, all the time.
I'd love to make copies of my dvd's and actually rent them out for like 3 bucks a week.
Thats a good way to make cash.
How illegal would that be?

Okay, I took your advice. After I asked her, she kicked me in the shins and started blowing on her rape whistle. Thanks!

That was a good idea...until you announced it on the Internet. The FBI is probably on their way now. Better tell them it all was your nameless split personality's idea.

If you do have a lot of DVDs borrowed out by people, I suggest the program Delicious Library (if you're on a Mac)...
Not only is it an easy program to scan in your entire collection (just hook up a videocamera or webcam, hold the barcode up and it scans in your dvd) but a good one to keep track of what's out, who's got it, and give things due dates, etc...
It's certainly helped me a lot

If you want all the features you have to buy it but it's only like 30-40 dollars. The loan feature still works w/o buying it but I would recommend buying it b/c it is cheap and alot of the features are pretty cool. It definately helps me remember who has what as long as they tell me they are borrowing the DVD. I still have casualties every once in awhile though.
i let my good friends borrow, but i charge lesser friends $2 for 2 days, with $.50 charge for each additional day. I havent really been enforcing it, but it was good for an extra $10 or so a week last year

I love dvd profiler, been using it for like six years now, which is great since I have been using it since I first got my collection and always enter all the info when I use it, it can tell me how much I have spent on every dvd I own, when I bought it and from who. I bought the subscription since it was only a lifetime thing, which allows you to print out reports like all the dvds you own (great feature)

Lately I have been in the habit of just burning movies for people, so I don't have to borrow them out because I hate borrowing out. The only person I still trade with regularly is my old boss as he owns like 1400 dvds and I own 1100. He always has 4-5 of mine and I always have 4-5 of his.
