When the Brits do the crime caper, it’s usually good for a laugh. Or at least, a couple of chuckles. Their latest is Roger Donaldson’s “The Bank Job”, starring Jason Statham and Saffron Burrows. The hook? The movie is based on a true story of the 1971 Baker Street bank robbery in London, where the crooks were never caught and not a single dime was recovered.

In September 1971, thieves tunneled into the vault of a bank in London’s Baker Street and looted safe deposit boxes of cash and jewelry worth over three million pounds. None of it was recovered. Nobody was ever arrested. The robbery made headlines for a few days and then disappeared - the result of a ‘D’ Notice, gagging the press. This film reveals what was hidden for the first time. The story involves murder, corruption and a sex scandal with links to the Royal Family - a story in which the thieves were the most innocent people involved.

Starring Jason Statham, Saffron Burrows, Stephen Campbell Moore, Daniel Mays, James Faulkner, and directed by Roger Donaldson.

Statham is overrated. Didn't they make this film 2 or 3 years ago? :D

Roger Donaldson is pretty hit an miss when it comes to his movies.hopefully this will be as good as species :D

Great thread title.

I'm more intrigued by the fact that it's based on a true story; I like Jason Statham, so that's another plus.

Jason Statham is fantastic, guys got a great style, and he looks like a badass, not some american pretty boy.

I don't feel he's overrated but I think he should be marketed differently, he's got the build and the mug to be an action star but I'd like to see him in more sharply written stuff and not just any smeg-aweful script with kung-fu in it.

Jason Statham is a good actor in crime movies like Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrles. The Bank Job is a must see. he must kiss goodbye his action hero roles.

no way, hes one of the finest we have. The Transporter series is some pure octane entertainment, and Crank was pretty good too.

Indeed, he DOES deserve better than most of the stuff that he is given. The man has charisma, physicality and this makes him likeable. Best thing is, he's not wholly larger than life, he's what you could call an 'ard man. He's accessible like that... provided he doesn't kick your teeth so hard down your throat that you have to eat food through your arse.

Uhhh...did it stop Goodfellas (1990, 9/10) from kicking ass even though you knew the real Henry Hill not only got away with almost everything, but was alive and well?

THE STATHAM RETURNS. AND I'M SURE SEEING HIM GET A BJ FOR THE 2ND TIME WILL BE JUST AS ENTERTAINING AS THE FIRST.

BTW, that's last year's Crank (2006, 8/10) that I was referring to, in case anybody forgot.
