Does Kristin Kreuk's agent have access to IMDB? How is it possible that he has allowed his client to sign on to a movie directed by Andrzej (Doom, Romeo Must Die, Cradle 2 The Grave) Bartkowiak and written by Justin "I'm the hot guy to turn to for all your shitty 80s nostalgia adaptation needs!" Marks? And one based on Street Fighter? The last Street Fighter movie killed Raul Julia, for the love of Romero! What kind of havoc could a new Street Fighter wreak?

It'll probably make sure that Kreuk's journey to 'actress who supports herself by signing autographs at comic conventions' is completed sooner, that's for sure. The new Street Fighter movie, subtitled Legend of Chun-Li, is about the titular character's 'journey for justice'*, which means it's going to be a series of fight scenes punctuated by heavy metal and/or hip hop music. Which in and of itself isn't a bad thing, I guess - I love terrible movies as much as the next guy who owns two versions of Alexander on DVD - but the truth is that with these folks running things Street Fighter: Legend of Chun-Li is sure to be the sort of soul-sapping badness with a half life of awful that makes it possible for only the next generation to safely enjoy it in an ironic way.

The upside of all this, I suppose, is that this movie means we're one step closer to Kreuk showing it all in some upcoming DTV release.

For crying out loud... why not cast an asian girl as Chun LI, it's not like there's a shortage of attractive young asian women who could be taught (or know) movie martial arts.

Overall Ryu and Ken are the main characters of the franchise, but they've decided to focus on a specific group of main characters - namely Chun Li and Bison - rather than trying to cram every single character into it like the Van Damme flick did. If this first Street Fighter movie is a success, I figure they could do a sequel focusing on Ryu, Ken, and Sagat.

(Also, I enjoyed the Van Damme version in a "holy fucknuts this shit is ridiculous" kind of way.)

So far Chun Li is the only one cast. Ryu is not in the movie, according to this script review (http://latinoreview.com/news/exclusive-reader-s-script-review-street-fighter-2293). The full cast includes Chun Li, Bison, Gen, Nash (also known as Charlie), Balrog, and Vega.

I'm curious as hell as far who they're looking at for M. Bison.

Talking to MTV.ca, the former time-traveling law-enforcer says he knocked back an offer to join Kristin Kruek and Michael Clark Duncan in the new “Street Fighter”.

''I would have been well paid but I didn't want to do it. I've made enough money. I don't want to make a movie and then come home and be unhappy about it. Life is short. I'm 47 years old. I've got 10 years to go where I can be the best I can be. I want those 10 years to be precious, not like before, cranking two or three movies a year. I've made a ton of movies in my life, but so what? It's time for me to do things I like so I will be happy, my wife will be happy, my friends will be happy. I just want to do something I'm proud of. It's time for me to change. I could sign with a company for 10 movies and I'm the king of video and so what?'', Van Dammage, who currently appears in “The Shepherd : Border Patrol”, says.

Brett Ratner also offered Jean Claude a role – the villain role I assume? - in the latest “Rush Hour” movie but, says the actor, “if I do an action movie today I cannot walk through the streets and do karate moves. I would not believe it anymore. It's hard for me to say that. I cannot go and do three somersaults. I would feel like a monkey. So "Rush Hour," even though I would have been well paid, would have been difficult for me to accept

Capcom®, a leading worldwide developer and publisher of video games, is proud to confirm the main cast for its live-action Street Fighter movie based on the hugely popular video game series.

The story revolves around fan-favorite Chun-Li, who will be portrayed by actress Kristen Kreuk (of Smallville fame). Michael Clark Duncan, Neal McDonough, and Taboo of Black Eyed Peas are also on board to round out this all-star cast. The film will be made in conjunction with Hyde Park Films, and will be distributed by 20th Century Fox for a scheduled 2009 worldwide release.

I've said it before; I'm totally on board with Kreuk as Chun Li and MCD as Balrog. Klein and Yune I'm still iffy on.

As for Bison, on the very short list of actors I could think of to play the part, Neal McDonough appeared nowhere.

Also, Taboo from Black Eyed Peas has been confirmed to play Vega. This wasn't announced earlier when they said he'd been cast, but when I googled his picture, I had precisely that feeling.

So yeah, it's not exactly a dream team.

Terminal optimist I am, I'll reserve judgement till I see some pictures and a trailer.

The story revolves around Chun-Li, who will be portrayed by actress Kristen Kreuk ("Smallville"). Michael Clark Duncan plays Balrog, Neal McDonough is M. Bison, Taboo of the Black Eyed Peas is Vega, Chris Klein plays Charlie Nash, and Rick Yune is the mystical Gen.

The film will be made in conjunction with Hyde Park Films, and will be distributed by 20th Century Fox for a scheduled 2009 worldwide release.

The Street Fighter movie is only one of many projects Capcom has planned to celebrate the 20th anniversary of "Street Fighter." Summer 2008 will see the Japanese arcade release of the much-anticipated "Street Fighter IV."

"Street Fighter" was first released in 1987 to critical acclaim for its innovative features. This was followed up in 1991 with the smash hit "Street Fighter II," which broke records by being available in 500 thousand arcade cabinets and selling over 25 million units on home systems. These records cemented "Street Fighter's" reputation as one of the most popular fighting game series of all time, and ensured that the fighting genre would become a staple of the gaming world.

I'm thinking the main reason is because this isn't exactly a high profile movie - not even close, mix in scheduling conflicts, and what not, and you get the fiiiiiiine Kristen Kreuk in the role. I myself think it'll be a straight-to-DVD flick.

Seeing as I'm probably the last guy on these boards still looking forward to this flick, I thought I'd resurrect it now that there's been some actual news.

A new poster has been unveiled at the Tokyo Game Show taking place this weekend. IMAGES HERE. (http://kotaku.com/5062038/first-look-at-street-fighter-legend-of-chun+li-movie-poster) The poster is apparently a TGS exclusive, and showcases a very blue-eyed Kristen Kreuk in what could teasingly be a version of Chun Li's classic game outfit. A Japanese website (http://streetfighter-movie.gyao.jp/) features a slightly better quality version of the poster.

It's been reported the film's trailer will also premiere at TGS, so it's possible it could run with Max Payne (another Fox release) on the 17th.

I'm Kent Brockman, and this has been "News You Didn't Ask For".

A one-sheet has finally appeared online (check attachment). In some ways I like it, in many other ways it's lame.

Some additional details from someone in the know (SOURCE (http://piratecovecomic.blogspot.com/)) :

1. The trailer that has been showing up on Japanese sites was originally created by Fox, then dubbed & slightly altered for Japanese audiences. When Fox gets the trailer online and into domestic theatres, this is pretty much what you'll be seeing.
I certainly hope the differences are more drastic than he's letting on.

2. The movie is around 97 minutes long and rated PG-13. We HAD an R up until a few weeks ago, but FOX wanted a PG-13 release so we cut out a few moments of brutality. I expect there will be an unrated version available on DVD when that time comes.
Figures. What is this hard-on Fox has for slicing movies to PG-13? No other studio does this as often as they do.

3. For those of you who were concerned, no, Taboo does not sing in the film.
Good to know.

Oh also, a video clip of a trailer shown at '08 Tokyo Game Show (http://s3.photobucket.com/albums/y83/Iwa_Hoshi/vgmand/?action=view&current=TGS-sflcl.flv) has been discovered. Shows a few more bits of new footage.

...

Someone take a letter:

Dear Twentieth Century Fox,

Quit fucking around with this ridiculous Watchmen lawsuit and start showing Street Fighter some proper marketing love. Who knows, you might even have a surprise hit on your hands if you treat it with respect instead of devoting all your resources into digging around in Warner Bros' pockets.

Sincerely, Me.

Vega's mask in the poster definetly looks a bit weird, too.

Everybody was talking about how much of a STV flick this looks, so i'm not suprised with the PG-13 rating, it'll only help them try and get in the bucks.

Hopefully they gear up a bit. I never can stand movies that flop big time when they don't get a chance due to the publicity/advertising aspect. But then again unfortunately alot of films I dig have this happen so maybe this is following in that trend. Oh well atleast that means i'll like it.

True to that last report I posted, it features a lot of the same footage as the Japanese trailer. But there are little additions here and there - like the clearest shot of Vega yet (the more I see of that mask, the more I like it) - that make it a better trailer for me, anyway. (And no, I'm not knocking the last one because the voiceover was in Japanese.)

Still, here's hoping for a second, full-length trailer before the movie comes out.

Let's be honest, there isn't really much you can do with a grounded Street Fighter movie that's all about Chun-Li and doesn't feature Ryu or Ken. This definitely looks good for what it is. I'm sure it won't be anything more than average, but it looks fun. Plus I just found out that Taboo from the Black Eyed Peas is playing Vega (who looks pretty fuckin great in the trailer).

http://media.modbee.com/smedia/2008/02/27/14/39-LIVE_p0229_29g5taboo.standalone.prod_affiliate.11. jpg

I'll be checkin this out, one way or another...

P.S. And say what you want about Fergie, but the Black Eyed Peas used to be the shit back in the day.

Yeah at first I was really annoyed with Taboo being Vega but in the end he likely won't deal with much "Acting Chops" anyway.

Ever since Taboo was cast, I've been hearing so much crap about how "he's not pretty enough to be Vega!" I think the important issue isn't so much that he's beautiful, but more that he thinks he is; hence why he wears the mask.

And if those moves in the trailer are actually his (I've heard he does have a martial arts background), he might be better suited for the part than people think.

Yeah...that was something I remotely complained about myself, the whole pretty-boy aspect. But I'm really figuring he isn't going to have much screen-time without the mask, just a guess. In general hes a pretty hard character to cast and not be a bit "iffy" with towards hardcore fans.

Sadly you're right 99% likely...which is a shame, cause if somebody went really serious and tried hard with it, the storylines are pretty fucking awesome in the games and such etc., and make for a perfect movie series (much like MK,too).

I'm still excited for this movie, just don't expect it to be anything genius.

You shouldn't be expecting that from a Street Fighter movie anyway.

What the fuck? How does this shit even get made? The first Street Fighter was bad enough but "The legend of Chun Li?" What the fuck kind of title is that?

I'll admit the subtitle is unnecessary, but I like the "limited cast" approach they're taking with this film. Aside from the cries of "Kristin Kreuk is too white to be Chun Li! The director fucked up Doom! Bison doesn't look like that! What's Michael Clarke Duncan doing in this crap?" I've been hearing ever since the casting announcements were made, the question that keeps popping up is, "Why does Chun Li get her own movie? What makes her so 'legendary'?"

Well fuck me, what the hell ISN'T legendary about her? She's easily one of Street Fighter's most popular characters right alongside Ken & Ryu, not to mention one of the most popular characters in gaming-dom (is that even a word?). Plus, canonically speaking, she's credited with taking down M. Bison and Shadowlaw. So why is it such sacrilege that she gets her own flick?

I had the opportunity a while back to read Justin Marks' original script. It's not Citizen Kane or anything, but it's good. Not even "guilty pleasure" good like Doom, or "so bad it's good" like DOA or Double Dragon. And I'm not saying any of this out of my inflated sense of optimism for this movie, but it because I was reading this thing during work hours because I wanted to know what happened next. There have clearly been some changes made since that draft was written, but certain shots in the trailer follow along with scenes I read.

Wait, Bison was in the trailer? I only saw Chun Li and Vega, who both looked better in the first movie.

There's a reason Bison looks the way he does.

Charlie always looked like an extra from a Vanilla Ice video anyway. His Street Fighter II V look was a lot less silly.

It took me three hours in Photoshop to make a better poster than Fox did. What does that tell you about their marketing division?

http://www.shokxonestudios.com/independent/images/full/StreetFighter.jpg

Trailer's in HD thanks to Yahoo! Movies. (http://movies.yahoo.com/movie/1810030315/video/11535978) So those of you who didn't give a crap about this flick before can now do so in 1080p.

Also, whole buncha new pictures (http://www.kinopoisk.ru/level/13/film/402983/) are online.

I'm now doing more to promote this movie than Fox is. That either makes me perseverant or just sad...probably the latter.

Yup Ryu and Ken should star in the next film.Gouken has to be in it because he trains them.It should be based on Street Fighter 1.Main villian has to be Sagat.Akuma can be referred to but not seen yet till maybe the end.I dont know who else can be in it.That would be so cool. Then akuma can be used in further installments.OH MY I WANT THIS TO HAPPEN

Lord knows how it happened, but that fake poster I did lived a brief but infamous life as an unofficial international one-sheet. But with the general feeling being "It's better than the first one, but still not that great", I did another one:

http://www.shokxonestudios.com/independent/images/full/StreetFighter2.jpg

(That's my web address at the bottom; I ain't takin' chances this time.)

Meanwhile, there's a "new" trailer on the Japanese movie website (http://streetfighter-movie.gyao.jp/); a few snippets of new footage played over some weird pop song that I pray to God is NOT in the movie. There's also some new content on the characters/staff/etc, plus what looks like an interview with voice actors doing the film's Japanese dub. All in Japanese, of course.

I've gotten more updates on this movie out of the IMDB message boards than most other places. That's messed up. Anyway...

Michael Clarke Duncan was on Late Late Show w/ Craig Ferguson this week; they didn't talk a great deal about the movie, but a fight scene clip was shown:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gG0NNPsZpD0

Kristin Kreuk was in Japan for the film's premiere; a video is available that also shows off some quick action clips. It's embedded toward the bottom of the page:

How you can even look at Kristin Kreuk and not think "ASIAN" is simply beyond me.

i've never heard of Kristin Kreuk until i heard about this movie. she definitely doesn't have the Asian look i was hoping they would cast. if she walked past me on the street, it would never occur to me that she's Asian.

Four new clips (http://www.reelzchannel.com/movie/260624/street-fighter-the-legend-of-chun-li) are now online.

Bison may not look like classic Bison, but from the look of that first clip, he sure kicks ass like him.
