Well, after NO COUNTRY FOR OLD MEN went ahead and got itself some insanely good reviews and almost certainly an Oscar for Javier Bardem, it looks like the Coen brothers are going to head back to the West, as they make a full throttle Spaghetti Western. Since, you know, stick to what works. And apparently this thing will be graphic, "we've written a western with a lot of violence in it. There's scalping and hanging ... it's good. Indians torturing people with ants, cutting their eyelids off... It's a proper western, a real western, set in the 1870s. It's got a scene that no one will ever forget because of one particular chicken," they warned. I get way too excited, way too quickly, so after a pretty remarkable slump, I choose to believe that the Coens are back. And when your next film stars George Clooney and Brad Pitt (BURN AFTER READING), well then I just have to assume it's going to be great too, especially since my memory flat out refuses to acknowledge OCEAN'S TWELVE. As such, with my Sherlock Holmesian logic, I deduce that this film will be awesome.

Officially stoked.

It's good to see that Westerns are making a comeback, even if it's a slow one. Since I'm a big fan of the Coens and Westerns, I'll definitely see this one.

I could have sworn Burn After Reading was a comedy/drama about a mishandled CIA disk, hence the title "Burn After Reading" would make more sense. Unless I'm not understanding this correctly and they are referring to what they have slated AFTER Burn After Reading.

Same here. IMDB needs to update their plots then. The title, BURN AFTER READING, has nothing to do with the West.

This isn't the plot for "Burn After Reading".

Burn After Reading IS the CIA story. It's already filming.

The Western is still in pre-production (I'm guessing)

To clarify:

Burn After Reading is already in production and has been for months. It's the CIA thing with Brad Pitt, George Clooney, Tilda Swinton, John Malkovich, and Fran McDormand. The blurb in the original post is about the one AFTER that, which seems to be a western of some sort.

the western idea sounds absolutely intriguing, hopefully it'll join some other excellent modern westerns like, unforgiven, the proposition, and 3:10 to yuma.

Sorry if I caused any confusion by putting the wrong title. I must have just misinterpereted the article. Wish I could edit the title.

Completely agree with that... And I hope burn after reading is awesome in its own right.

I wonder if the Coens will return to the midwest for this. Southwest, more than likely, but 18th century midwest would be fuckin' awesome.

Great news. It seems like the Coens are back in full throttle, which is absolutely fantastic. I'm still interested in seeing another one of the Coen's proposed future projects, "Hail Caesar", based on an original screenplay of theirs which sees a 1920's theatre troupe put on a production of Shakespeare's "Julius Caesar". Sounds like it could be hilarious, especially if they set it in a similar setting as O Brother, Where Art Thou? Also, it has Tim Blake Nelson and George Clooney, so it's even more like O Brother. But yeah, the western sounds incredible. Can't wait to see it develop.

I also think Roger Deakins should forget everything else and focus his entire career on shooting films that take place in the desert.

yeah this is Burn After Reading which is how IMDB has it listed -- I can't imagine the Coen's would do two heavy handed movies in a row like that (and two Westerns at that considering No Country really is a modern day western) but I'm really excited about this movie and I'm hoping it proves to be on of their better comedies which they really havn't had success with since O Brother
