Cohen will own this role.

* Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull
* Lincoln
* Interstellar
* The Trial of the Chicago Seven (working title, I'm sure)
So, when will we see this thing? 2010?

That sounds like it could be an interesting turn for Baron Cohen. The actual movie sounds like it has potential too.:)

Sacha is the man, and him getting 15% of the Gross for Bruno along with the 7mil payday is fucking glorious news. The man has put his physical, personal well being on the line many times just to make people laugh and think a bit differently, so I'm glad to see it paying off.
Hopefully Spielberg gets him an Oscar, that would rule.

I adore the man. Glad he's transitioning into other roles.:cool:

Spielberg has an eye for talent, and I think these two will work very well together. Future Oscar-bait for Cohen.

Yeah, that's very good casting.

Although I know it will be heavy handed, I hope it's not too much and at least brings out the sense of humor HOffman had.

It's Sacha Baron Coen we're talking about here, there's no doubt that the role will be injected with comedy. Also, anything Speilberg does is automatically interesting to me, so it'll be great to see how this develops. Really hope they change the title, though, it's quite awful.

I saw a documentary called the Chicago 10 about the same subject. It was mildly good, but the subject itslef is quite a great story. In the Indiana Jones article for Vanity Fair Spielberg said this might be his next project even before Licoln. At this rate Lincoln would have been in pre production for almost five years by the time they get it off the ground.

I'm thinking it might be a different sort of comedy than we're used to seeing from him.

:p is really all I can say to that.

Intersteller sounds fantastic too. I think Spielbergo has practically the rest of his career lined up. Oh hell who am I kidding. The man just randomly announced his next film and here I am saying that this guy who will probably be making films till the day he dies has a career full of projects up his sleeve.

The subject is injected with comedy already. I'm just saying I hope Spielberg ads some of Hoffman's style throughout the film. Tone-wise, I really hope this is a mix between Catch Me If You Can with Moments on Munich, and not so much the other way around, which is what I'm expecting.

I am looking forward to this, especially with the newly rumored cast members. I want to see Sacha Baron Cohen to show us he is an actual actor, and not just an annoying comedian. I want to see this take the dark tone of the masterpiece that was MUNICH. I'm very excited for this project.

How familiar are you with Hoffman? It would practically be an insult to depict his exploits heavy-handedly.

I have a basic knowledge of the story, but in the end it was a very dramatic event that needs to be depicted as such to be accurate to the historical events.

I agree. There should be a turning point where things do become grim. Maybe I misstated my 'vision' of how I'd like to see it --- it needs to be heavy handed, but I just want those moments of comic genius. I'm not thinking Spielberg won't pull it off, I just hope he wants it to go that way too, and not keep the politics and court-drama at 100%. I hope he injects that sense of fun he has shown in Catch Me into this film -- no way should the whole film be a goof fest, because like you said that's not how it went down. No doubt, though --- I think this will kick all kinds of ass. Honestly, I'm not sure why I even came across as doubting anything. Tone-wise, I'm hoping something like People Vs. Larry Flynn more than, say, The Exocism of Emily Rose. Heh!

it might have been. I saw it a few months ago at my college. It didn't get much, if any, sort of scheduled release.

Okay, yeah - it's actually OnDemand right now. I was planning to watch it last night, but ended up watching Gremlins 2 and Robocop 2 back-to-back.

Just thought I'd resurrect this thread to let everyone know that according to Janusz Kaminski, Steven's longtime DP, CHICAGO 7 is set to begin filming in April. With this amazing cast (I'd find it hard to imagine any of them turning Steven Spielberg down), director, and writer, I think this could be the perfect capstone on 2008 film-wise.
In terms of tone, given Sorkin's penchant for satire and the farcical nature of the actual trial, I think this will have a somewhat lighter tone with some darker moments.
BTW, I think Sacha is an ideal fit for Hoffman as they have very similar facial features and hairstyles. The only difference being that Hoffman is a little bulkier.
Monotreme: once Spielberg's done with this, it's expected that he'll do a 30-day shoot for TINTIN's motion-capture in September and then go on to film LINCOLN at the end of the year in time for 2009 and Lincoln's bicentennial.

Yes, indeed it is. It's never mentioned in the film, but I found out later that it was indeed Abbie Hoffman.
