Chocolate is the latest directorial effort from Prachya Pinkaew, the man at the helm of both Ong Bak and Tom Yum Goong / The Protector. While Pinkaew and his star Tony Jaa have had a fairly public falling out recently - no doubt triggered in part by Jaa’s desire to direct Ong Bak 2 himself and resulting in Pinkaew’s cancellation of Jaa feature project Sword - he is quite confident he has a new star here in Nicharee “Jeeja” Vismistananda. Don’t let youth or gender fool you, Vismistananda has been training under the personal guidance of Jaa’s mentor and fight choreographer Panna Rittikrai for years in preparation for this role so you know she’s got the goods. In Chocolate she plays an autistic girl who goes on a mission to collect debts to save her ill mother, a course of action that puts her on a collision course with gangs of both the local Thai and Japanese varieties.

This looks like it's gonna be another fun movie in the same style as Ong-Bak. The Protector wasn't so good because it decided to focus on the story too much. Hopefully this will have the same formula as Ong-Bak which was 30 minutes of story and then 1+ hour of non-stop action/fighting.

Oh yeah, the movie is also going to be done like Ong-Bak with no strings or effects for the fights. Watch the nasty blooper reel in the trailer for proof.

The plot sounds stupid, but who cares. That looks badass. The Thais know how to do badass martial arts movies.

Color me sexist but that girl and her baggy pants make this look not so great.

Nice. As long as she's got more personality than Tony Jaa, than she should do well for herself. It's hard finding a good charismatic martial arts superstar these days. Sure, there's people like Jaa with great skills, but the guy's got no personality on screen.

yeah the only way she will out due Jaa is if she can actually act, which he has trouble with

Both those movies were solid, so I'm definitely intrigued by Jeeja, who looks like she could beat all our asses. Love the Bruce Lee reference... http://joblo.com/forums/images/icons/icon14.gif
