You know, I really never had a high respect for Brad Pitt as an actor before.. I was impressed with his roles in Se7en and Fight Club, but, all of his other roles I've seen him in, have been okay at best.

Tonight, I watched 12 Monkeys.

Needless to say, I'm left going: . Wow.

This guy can ACT..

12 Monkeys shows me that he's actually worthy of some of the Hollywood status that people give him..

Brad's biggest impediment in his career has been his looks.

His most boring roles have always been when he's doing the Hollywood thing and playing characters that show off his good looks: Seven Years in Tibet (could he have been any blonder?!) Meet Joe Black (lovely hair), Troy (ooh long blonde hair).... I think I remember a schmoe who had said he was into playing "hair cuts"

But when you see movies like 12 Monkeys you see that he is a really good character actor when you actually give him characters to play, especially freaks. For whatever reason he just seems to have much more fun playing against type, and its clearly evident in these performances:

Fight Club, Snatch, 12 Monkeys, Seven (not so much a freak, but he lets himself get fucked up a lot), Kalifornia,

The man is a pro. He brings something interesting to even his most prosaic roles.

He's always coming up with little goofball touches (or if they're not his, pulling them off and making them his own.) That hideous ratty bathrobe in Fight Club, all the nacho and sundae eating in Ocean's Eleven...he's a modern Monty Clift, a character actor in a matinee idol's body.

definitely. and he gets ripped on for that, for being some sort of pretty-boy actor, but hes got TONS of talent and deserves a lot of praise.

the guy can do crazy (12 Monkeys, Fight Club), the guy can play serious roles (Jesse James, Babel), and he does "smooth" like nobody else (Ocean's Eleven, Mr. and Mrs. Smith). hes a future oscar i hope.

A pretty good actor with an impressive resume (let's add Floyd from True Romance and Mickey O'Neil from Snatch out there), but he nearly killed his credibility for me with the atrocious Mr. And Mrs. Smith...

damn....i tried to think of one movie he was in that i didn't like. sorry JJ, but i thought mr. and mrs. smith was a decent popcorn flick...nothing more. he was a badass in troy (eff off...i fuckin loved it!), he was in 2 of my favorite movies of all-time. the man just can't fuck up...period.

I was very anti-pitt at the beginning of his career mainly because I became sick and tired of the hype but after 12 Monkeys and Se7en I did a complete 180 and now I love the guy. So many of his films are in my top lists. I think he's highly under-rated as an actor simply because so many people would rather talk about frosted tips and abs.

Sorry, but I don't think Pitt was badass in Troy. I found him miscast in Troy. He was boring. Eric Bana was badass in Troy. He was the best thing about the movie and despite Pitt's miscasting, I actually liked Troy a LOT.

As far as bad movies that Pitt has done, Cool World is seriously a piece of shit. However, that was before he was superstar so I forgive him of that.

However, I also didn't care for Spy Game. I found the movie to be rather boring. And as for his performance? He's okay, I suppose though he is outclassed and overshadowed by Redford.

I love Meet Joe Black but I thought he was rather so-so in that (and again, he outclassed and easily overshadowed by the amazing Anthony Hopkins and the lovely Claire Forlani).

I really need to rewatch Seven Years in Tibet. It's been a LONG time since I've seen it.

But in general Pitt is awesome. So many great performances in so many great movies.

Seven, Fight Club, A River Runs Through It, Legends of the Fall, Kalifornia, Interview with the Vampire, Twelve Monkeys, The Devil's Own, The Mexican, The Ocean movies and Babel.

Also, his guest appearence on Friends, was utterly hilarious. One of that show's best episodes infact. And maybe one of the funniest episodes of any sitcoms ever as well.

I think Brad Pitt is a great talent. I never really hopped onto the "Oh my God, I'd Do Him" wagon though.

He definitely rules (my two favorite films he stars in)

Definitely check out a film called Kalifornia. He is pretty fuckin awesome in that as well.

legends of the fall, interview, and kalifornia... if he never made any of the movies after these he still would have been a legend... nobody else could have pulled off legends and kalifornia... maybe somebody could have interview, but luckily we'll never know
