LOS ANGELES (AFP) - Reality television star Nicole Richie and pop singer Christina Aguilera have given birth to babies born roughly an hour apart at the same Los Angeles hospital, reports said Saturday.

Richie, the daughter of soul singer Lionel Richie, and rock star partner Joel Madden welcomed a baby girl at the Cedars Sinai Medical Center, according to People magazine's online edition.

Shortly afterwards on the same ward Aguilera, who married music producer Jordan Bratman in 2005, gave birth to a baby boy, according to reports.

Richie and Madden named their daughter Harlow Winter Kate Madden and have now left the hospital, a spokesman for the couple said.

"The beautiful healthy baby girl left the hospital with her ecstatic parents," a representative for the couple told People.

Richie, 26, revealed she was pregnant in July as a court case and the prospect of a prison sentence loomed over her for charges of driving under the influence. She was later handed a four-day jail term but served a mere 82 minutes behind bars before being released.

Richie, a close friend of socialite Paris Hilton whose partying and dramatic weight fluctuations have been the subject of intense tabloid speculation, said in an interview last year that pregnancy had forced her to grow up.

"When I found out that I was pregnant, there was just something inside of me that felt a responsibility to mend any issues that I've had with my parents in the past, because, listen, I've put them through a lot," she said.

I think the scariest part is how two big name female slut celebrities had a baby WITHIN an hour of each other, and at the SAME HOSPITAL. That's freaky.

Christina Aguilera and Jordan Bratman have named their son Max Liron. Liron being Hebrew for "my song" or "my joy". Max isn't too bad although I'm used to hearing it used as a shortened form of Maxwell or Maximilian and I know two people who each named their newborn sons Max within the past year.

I kind of thought Aguilera would give her child at least a normal first name instead of something stupid. Max, that's a good name. It's Goofy's kid's name. Thumbs up for that one. I actually think Aguilera will make a good mother, to be honest.

As for Richie, she gets an auto-fail anyway for having a baby with one of the Madden brothers. You'd think she'd got higher than a 3rd-rate pop-punk star whose band no one cares about. 'Harlow Winter Madden' would have been a decent name, but then they decided to toss Kate in there. That girl is going to have the most awkward full-name award in terms of saying aloud, because 'Harlow Winter Kate Madden' makes less sense than 'Pilot Inspektor Lee' or whatever Jason Lee named his kid.

I think Max is rather cute...Richie has over-egged the pudding a little and I agree with everybody else that Harlow Winter would have been more than adequate. The Kate chucked on the end seems kinda clumsy and out of place when compared to the first 2 names.

I do feel a bit unfair cussing their choices because this name choosing lark is much tougher than my boyfriend and I anticipated. I have just over a month before birthing my spawn (yum) and I'm still umming and ahhing on a daily basis.

We like Noah Rufus...I like Noah Albert Rufus...um, but 2 middle names are excessive I guess. Then my boyfriend has his heart set on Wolfgang...which round these parts is akin to naming a boy Sue. Then the childs surname will be Alexander, which is also my father's forename...kinda nice really. But it's a long surname and you need a forename with at least 2 syllables for it to roll off the tongue. Then last night my boyfriend suggests Otto...um, yeah.

Anyway, congratulations to them both...I'm not Richie's biggest fan but I hope motherhood will turn it around for her.
