this is a pretty funny movie. why didn't people like it?

GOD DAMN HILARIOUS. the scene of the "shania story" is fantastic, not to mention the african surrogate son. and mark walhberg's character.

I loved it too. It's on my top 10 of 2004. Very funny movie and the entire cast is just great.

I thought it was a lot better than it was given credit for. This is one of those movies that I wouldn't recommend, but if asked would say I enjoyed it.

I thought it was boring and pretentious, but I was forced to see it long before I became that interested in movies and had superior taste in them.

This movie wasn't all that great. Compared to most modern indie quirky type comedies, I Heart Huckabees is at the bottom of the barrel. Was a huge disappointment after looking like it would be great.

It's hardly quirky?! Did you watch the same movie as me?

This is one of those movies that I hated when I first watched it. I rented again a couple of months ago because I honestly couldn't remember most of it. I love it now. I can see why a lot of people hate it, but I thought I was very funny, and its not everyday you see a comedy thats funny and makes you think long after you watch it. Tomlin and Hoffman were hilarious.

It actually went from a 5/10 to a 10/10. One of my all time favorite comedys.

I thought it was all right. You are definitely right that Marky Mark's character was great.

I think a lot of people complained that the characters came off too "smug".

A lot of the jokes/plot flew over the audiences' head and just didnt get it.

7/10

Its a lot more fun to watch now knowing how much hell there was on the set haha.

love this flick... Mark Wahlberg MADE this flick! His performance was worthy of an Academy Award!

watched it around christmas time with my parents... my dad also loved it.. and my mom hated it!

its one of those types of flicks!

i bought the Soundtrack/ Score for it also.. great music in it!

It's a movie that I hardly "got" the first time I watched it, yet I still enjoyed it lol. That was an odd feeling. I own it and I've watched it numerous times and I must admit I still don't fully understand it but I have got something new from it each time so I guess that's a plus. Wahlberg definitely makes the movie though.

Hated this when I first saw it but decided to give it another go and really enjoyed it, very funny at times.

I thought the premise was good, but the execution just really fell short in my opinion. I never gave it a second chance, though.

My thoughts exactly. At least that's the way it felt to me.

I've only seen it once, and that was when it first came out on DVD. I didn't love the movie, but also didn't despise it. It strikes me as one of those movies that I'd appreciate more during a repeat viewing.

there's nothing to "get". its not like it's ACTUALLY supposed to be a philosophical movie.

To this day, when someone says "chicken salad", I think "Shania!".

This movie is hilarious and Mark Wahlberg is great in it. And Isabelle Huppert is damn hot.

Exactly!

I don't know why people are pegging it as an odd, artsy indie movie. Sure, it's nothing found in the heart of Hollywood, but the film is meant to be a comedy - one that pokes fun at philosophy rather than asking the viewer to think philosophy...

I thought this was pretty easy to figure out. Wasn't a brilliant film - but much more clever than your typical comedy.

Mark Walhberg is fucking hilarious in this movie...just his body gestures alone...money in the bank!

Have you ever transended space and time?

Yes.....Uh...no. Time, not space. Wait...I don't know what you're talking about.

Yeah, I loved the movie. It's definitely a quirky comedy, but whoever said this at the bottom of the barrell for quirky comedies, hasn't seen all the quirky comedies that have been coming out over the past few years.

I Heart Huckabees is better than anything Wes Anderson has ever made. And I don't understand how people think it's pretentious. There's really not much to the existential crisis in the film and like others have said, a lot of it is making fun of the whole process. And Wahlberg is a riot.

Only behind The Motorcycle Diaries and Eternal Sunshine that year for me.

One of my favourite comedies of all time. I love this movie. Definitely does not get enough praise.

EDIT:
Trying to be a Wes Anderson.
Um, how?

While I don't think the movie is really Andersonian, it has a few elements which make it seem like a film similar to Andersons', including:

- deadpan humor.
- characters/things that are just a little unreal, but not entirely so. the detective agency being the best example.
- character "costumes". mark wahlberg generally has big fireman boots on, jude law is always in suits, the detectives look a little weird, etc.
- the framing of a lot of scenes in the movie vaguely recalls anderson (not so much recalls anderson as 'doesn't recall most movies', really).

I hate it...somebody said smug...I guess that's a good description for me personally.

Forced and smug and hip and freaking irritating.

I found the arguments between Tomlin and Mr Russell highly entertaining nonetheless...and that rumour about him taunting Clooney by calling him a pussy and asking him to hit him. David O Russell sounds like a prize plum.

I also liked Three Kings a lot.

Yeah, as a year one Anderson devotee, I don't get that it's trying to be an Anderson flick. If you think it is, you probably haven't seen enough... I'm just saying it isn't like Anderson wrote the book on deadpan humor and quirky characters.

As I said before though, it's a hard movie for me, because I agree with both the negative and positive comments. Maybe my wife had it right and said it best: I don't want to watch that fucking movie.

Heart Collector, you're not alone. I absolutely loved this movie and have been praising it ever since it came out. I think it's criminally underrated and underappreciated: It's a brilliantly wacky pastiche of psuedo-philosophy, strikingly original, laugh-out-loud hilarious, has brilliant performances from its all-star cast, and is just a fun, funny, original ride that I really loved. Asshole or not, David O. Russell is a great director, between this, Three Kings and Flirting with Disaster; he may not quite be up there with Wes or Paul Thomas Anderson, but he's pretty close.

Rewatching this now. It's really one of my favorite comedies of all time. Fucking hilarious. I don't understand why it's not more popular. Mark Wahlberg should have gotten an Oscar nom for this, not The Departed.

EDIT: Is it a crime to look at Lange?
