Nicolas Cage ready to quit acting

Nicolas Cage is ready to quit acting.
The National Treasure: Book of Secrets star has grown "tired" with the moviemaking industry and is no longer excited about being an actor.
He said: "I'm not interested in showing my face or making statements. I enjoy acting when it works. Some movie stars look like they are having a ball, but I'm tired of it. It has made me reclusive. That is an increasingly gnawing feeling in my body.
"When I first started I loved it. One of my frustrations is I have no control. I haven't worked in a while and it will be eight months before I start my next picture. I know for the first time which direction I'm going in and what changes I want to make."
The Oscar-winning actor also revealed he fears his fans are sick of watching his movies now he is in his 40s.
Cage, who lives in an English castle with wife Alice Kim and two-year-old son Kal-el, added to Britain's Radio Times magazine: "For some reason I p**s off the audience. People who like one type of film don't like to see me in another.
"Things I did and said early on still haunt me. I started acting at 17, but I'm 44 now and have grown up. I wonder if I am still interesting to watch if I didn't drink or raise hell, but it's obnoxious to keep drinking."

Well, he has been in a slump, but if he takes his money and retires to spend more time with his family, then VERY good for him...

Hopefully he will just choose his projects more wisely. I don't want to see him retire just yet.

Agreed with the above...If he wants to spend more time with kids, then good on him...But, if he would does more stuff like Adaptation, Leaving Las Vegas, Wild at Heart, then I would love to his him continue.

He's half right. We're sick of watching him in his 40s when he does crapfests like Next.
So I vote that it's GOOD news.

i think he should go under for awhile and resurface a few years later with the PERFECT role for him. It would work.

Well at least we know he's not totally oblivious to the feelings of movie watchers.

I haven't been excited about anything he's been attatched to in recent years. He seems to be really bad at choosing scripts.
Leaving Las Vegas shows the man can act, but he has consistently taken lesser roles since. It's probably better that he gets out, especially if his heart isn't in it anymore.

I just can't wrap my head around the fact that he obviously doesn't understand how pathetically bad his last several movies have been. Cage can't honestly say "FOR SOME REASON I pissed off the audience" when the reasons are pretty fucking crystal-clear... first off, he remakes a shitty version of Wickerman, then goes on to make -fucking- "Ghost Rider" (which can suck my balls), and then makes a shitty sequel to the already shitty National Treasure... now he's remaking a half-way decent asian film "Bangkok Dangerous", which i'm sure is going to suck my ass-hole.
Just fuck you Nicolas Cage. Go and film G-Force with your fucking super natural guinea pigs and shut the fuck up.
And don't talk to us about quitting your "acting" career when you haven't acted in your last seven fucking films.
All this bullshit can be solved if you'd stop making lame-ass action films, or "popcorn films" as others like to call it.

My liking for Cage pretty much started going downhill after... Wait for it... The Family Man. Then it picked back up with Matchstick Men and it's steadily, with each movie he's released, declining once again. I should put this all in a chart.

I`m sure he`ll 'quit' right after national treasure 3.
You`d think he would want to go out on a high note, unlike gene hackman and 'welcome to mooseport':(.

Con Air baby. Con Air.
I was a huge fan of Nicholas Cage. Funny how this happened right after Kathleen Turner said those things to him. He just wants to be with his family, and I don't blame the guy.
He has millions and is set for life. He'll be back though... Just wait.

Cage is being too hard on himself. If he needs to take some time off, that's one thing, but if he really wants to just stop forever I think thats a poor choice.

I refuse to see this fantastic actor leave with a streak of shitty films as his last.
Pull another "Vegas", you.

I think it's both good and bad. Cage is weird because he's made as many good films as he has horrible. He seems to do a really good movie then a really bad one. The latest has been doing The Weather Man and then after that The Wicker Man came out.

The National Treasure movies are a lot of fun. Next would have been a good movie if it weren't for the lame ass ending. Hell, I didn't think The Wicker Man was THAT bad and was sort of enjoyable.
Plus, people aren't mentioning World Trade Center which was an amazing movie and Cage gave a powerful performance in that. Hell, I'd go so far as to say he should have gotten an oscar nomination for it. And then before that he's done solid work in movies like Lord of War and The Weather Man and Matchstick Men.
If Cage does retire, then that would be a bad thing. A VERY sad thing to me. :(

Sometimes, actors just need some time away from the Hollywood bullshit to renew their thirst for their craft.
This sounds like the case to me.
Enjoying time with his wife and last son of Krypton will probably recharge his battery and if approached with a good script (hopefully good), he'll dive right back in.

Considering some of the crap he's been in the last few years I can't say I'm sorry to hear it.

Cage is the actor I don't like who is in movies I love.
Either way, I think he'll end up alright. I hope the time he spends with his kids rocks.

I think Nicolas Cage is smart enough to know that films like The Wicker Man and Ghost Rider were garbage from the start. Fortunately, he has fun with those roles and the end result is hilarious.
It's not as though it's been a long time since his last good film, in which he is usually what carries it.

Even better would be a Wicker Man sequel where Cage goes to an island to find out what happened to his twin brother.

It's simple Cage, stop doing shit like Ghost Rider and The Wicker Man. I'm sure it was obvious from reading the script that they were going to suck, so even if it is an enjoyable script it's not necessarily going to win the hearts of audiences. Stick to things like Adaptation and The Weather Man (which I thought was great). Take some down time, think it over and then come back when you are ready and choose a solid film to work on.

i really dont want him t6 'end' his career with shit like national treasure and next, not forgetting the abysmal ghost rider, if he finds a decent script, ile be happy.
but as allready been said, if he goes away for a few years to concentrate on his family, he wont be able to resist the lure, just look at arnie

Sounds to good to be true. According to IMDb (I know, not reliable) he has 13 movies upcoming till 2010.
I like his earlier movies, as far as I have seen them. But after National Treasure (2004) I stoped watching movies with him as a lead (beside a few scenes of Next).
I had (in the last ones I have seen) always the feeling he plays now only himself, probably because he was not really 'in' (lost interest started to show)?
So if he takes his time till he gets back his 'appetite' and comes back as he can be, great. If he does not come back, good for his family.

hes in four movies next year.
maybe, i dont know, he should fucking slow down, and actually start picking things he really likes instead of just anything. then he actually might find some freakin enjoyment.

I've got mixed feelings on this one. Cage used to be my favorite actor and he really can act well when he wants to, but his roles in the last decade or so have just been utter shit.
Sorry if I sound like I'm just parroting other people's posts, but if he's going to continue on that same path, then retirement is the best thing. But if he's going to stick around, he needs to be more choosey about the roles he accepts.

Before Nicolas Cage retires he has to do the movie version of the Grindhouse trailer Werewolf Women of the S.S.!!!

Definitely bad news. Don't you guys think you're being a littler harsh? Sure he's made a couple of shitty movies but he's brought in the cash that's for sure.
Below are some of the movies he's been in since 2000... good stuff here guys.
Amarillo Slim (2008) (pre-production) - Can't think of a better actor to play slim.
National Treasure: Book of Secrets (2007) - I loved this movie, don't hate :)
Grindhouse (2007)
World Trade Center (2006)
The Weather Man (2005)
Lord of War (2005)
National Treasure (2004)
Matchstick Men (2003)
Adaptation. (2002)
Windtalkers (2002)
The Family Man (2000)
Gone in Sixty Seconds (2000)

Totally agree with Terror A. He needs to make the Fu Manchu film. That would be awesome.
I am definitely a fan of Cage. He just needs to pick better projects (Next and Wicker Man were horrid). He can obviously act (Adaptation).

I can't hate Nicholas Cage for being Fu Manchu as well as being in some of the most unintentionally funny movies ever in Con Air and The Wicker Man. As well as completely moving me with one of the finest acting performances of the 90's in Leaving Las Vegas.
The guy has a very weird career though as he seems to do one amazing film and then one awful film.
He has these movies I really enjoy:
Raising Arizona
Wild At Heart
Leaving Las Vegas
Face/Off (Although, I don't really find Face/Off to be a good movie, it's some great popcorn cheese.)
8MM (Not as good as it could've been, but still pretty good)
Bringing Out The Dead
Adaptation
Matchstick Men
Lord Of War
The Weather Man
And then he does these movies that I find awful:
Amos & Andrew
Con Air
City Of Angels
Snake Eyes
Gone In Sixty Seconds
Captain Corelli's Mandolin
National Treasure
The Wicker Man
Ghost Rider
Next
I think Nicholas Cage is great when he plays the quirky, eccentric, weird guy or guy with a problem but does horrible when he has to be the action hero or romantic lead.

I've always considered Cage to be the American Michael Caine, whose choices in his career are very similar.

I guess living in a castle can make people depressed , or maybe he's just bored of counting his money .
This is what irritates me about these celebrity " primadonnas " , they make garbage and rake in tons of money , then start crying how miserable or disillusioned they are with their career . Must be nice to have the means to quit your job at any time without concerning yourself about finances . They live in this magical bubble , seperate from the commoners , so they don't appreciate just how good they have it .
I have an idea for Cage , make whatever you want , even if people like me bitch about it , and be happy that you don't have to , it's a choice . Make some small , intimate films again to get out this mainstream garbage funk your'e in , at least balance the roles you choose , but your statements seem like your wining about your lot in life , and you're not getting any sympathy from me .
I agree , Family Man was his last great picture , i loved that film when i first watched it , and it showed Cage's charisma , but i can't stand his sleepwalk roles in drek like NT or GR , although those are the ones that pay his bills and allow him to live in castles , so it's a neccessary evil , he should just stop whining .
By the way , what timing , he couldn't decide this before NT 2 starting filming , could have spared us yet another collecting dust in the bargain bin offering . Oh well , that castle may not be paid up yet , or if it is , it's expensive to maintain , so he had to do it .

The guy has made some good and fun movies, notably Face/Off, Con Air and Matchstick Men - among many others, but the guy can be hit or miss.
I'll it's bad news just because I want to focus on the good stuff he's done. And he just made a huge money maker in the second National Treasure.
