Lindsay Lohan, Eddie Murphy share worst film awards
Sat Feb 23, 2008 3:58pm EST

By Arthur Spiegelman

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Eddie Murphy and Lindsay Lohan were crowned the worst actors of 2007 at the Golden Raspberry Awards on Saturday and, perhaps not surprisingly, neither star showed up to accept the spoof Oscars.

For their lack of acting prowess, the veteran comic and the young actress with the hard-living reputation each won three gold spray-painted Razzie trophies worth $4.89 each.

The annual honors were announced by the Golden Raspberry Foundation at a presentation that pokes fun at the Academy Awards ceremony that is to be held on Sunday.

In a camp opening number, Dan Campbell and Paula Einstein donned '50s dresses and black "beehive" hairdos and sang: "The worst of last year are trembling with fear," and throughout the show clips were shown of the biggest Hollywood howlers of 2007.

Murphy, who starred in the critically savaged comedy "Norbit," set a record by winning three of the four worst acting categories. Despite bad reviews, moviegoers had turned out for the film, which took in $158 million at worldwide box offices based mostly on Murphy's popularity.

Lohan won two worst actress awards for playing twins in "I Know Who Killed Me," a film that was named worst of the year.

She also won worst screen couple for a scene in which she appears opposite herself in the tale about psychically linked siblings stalked by a serial killer.

"I Know Who Killed Me," a major box office flop with a $9 million take worldwide, won eight of nine Raspberries for which it was nominated, breaking a record of seven wins previously held by "Showgirls" and "Battlefield Earth."

Lohan was in and out of rehabilitation programs last year and acknowledged last month that she had fallen off the wagon at a New Year's Eve party. In November, she served 84 minutes in jail for drunken driving and cocaine possession charges.

Murphy won the worst actor award for playing the hapless hero of "Norbit." He had several parts in the movie and also won worst supporting actor and actress Raspberries for roles as a Chinese man and Norbit's screaming overweight wife.

Murphy had earned an Oscar nomination for his dramatic turn as a troubled soul singer in 2006 musical "Dreamgirls" and some critics said the widespread distaste for "Norbit" -- which hit theaters only weeks before the Oscar ceremony -- cost him support for those prestigious awards.

Like Lohan, Murphy's personal life also made headlines last year when he acknowledged fathering a child out of wedlock with Spice Girls singer Melanie Brown. In January of this year, Murphy and his new wife, Tracey Edmonds, split just two weeks after getting married in French Polynesia.

Few Razzies "winners" show up to the awards, which are open to the public, although actress Halle Berry did make an appearance in 2005 and sent herself up with a tearful acceptance speech when named worst actress for "Catwoman."

Following is a list of this year's Razzie winners:

Worst Picture: "I Know Who Killed Me"

Worst Actor: Murphy in "Norbit"

Worst Actress (tie): Lohan as twin sisters Aubrey and Dakota in "I Know Who Killed Me"

Worst Supporting Actress: Murphy in "Norbit"

Worst Supporting Actor: Murphy in "Norbit"

Worst Screen Couple: Lohan & Lohan in "I Know Who Killed Me"

Worst Remake or Rip-off: "I Know Who Killed Me," based on several films

Worst Prequel or Sequel: "Daddy Day Camp"

Worst Director: Chris Siverston for "I Know Who Killed Me"

Worst Screenplay: Jeffrey Hammond for "I Know Who Killed Me"

Worst Excuse for a Horror Movie (New Category): "I Know Who Killed Me."

I Know Who Killed Me deserved absolutely everything. Its the worst movie ive seen in at least a decade. Best part about this shit was that the film gave off some outrageous pretentious air, like it was some mind-bending, awestruck experience, with some terriblly thrown-in tragic piano music. its a rare film where i could never believe anybody enjoyed it.

What? First someone liking Meet the Spartans, now Norbit?

No surprises; I love how Eddie Murphy won for Best Supporting Actress. I'm sure he's thrilled though that he didn't win the "Worst Picture" award.

Congrats to all the winners!!!

I haven't seen either movie. I guess I'll keep it that way. :D

if you ever wanna know anything and everything that is currently "in" in pop culture, and see it thrown to overly long, mostly unfunny satiric romps, then give Meet the Spartans a watch.

if not, skip it.

Even then, avoid Meet The Spartans at all cost.

These "winners" are all justified. No wonder Lohan had to pose topless to gain a little attention for her floundering fame.

When it's out on dvd, I'll rent "Meet The Spartans" on a Tuesday. It's only one dollar for any and all movies on that day. :D

Save yourself the pain. I literally had a nightmare a few nights ago that myself and others were shot while walking out of Meet the Spartans at the theatre for being so stupid for seeing it. I didn't see it at the theatre (bootlegged the mofo), but the dream seemed oh so real.

As for the Razzies, not a lot of variety. What about Who's Your Caddy, Skinwalkers, Ghost Rider etc. Those three films right there are all worse than Norbit, although Norbit was pretty fucking brutal. I Know Who Killed Me deserved a few wins, but Skinwalkers was easily the worst picture of the year. Just pure garbage.

Now that's some scary shit, dude. That in itself would make a good spoof of a short film. It could be a comedy turned horror. You and your buds laughing your asses off at seeing the film. Then afterwards, you all get shot by some crazies for making fun of it. Sorry, I'm just fuelling the fires of despair. :D

"I Got Shot For Seeing Meet The Spartans"

I saw Skinwalkers. Best part was Rhona Mitra.

The results are kinda boring this year, this coming from a guy who loves the Razzies more than the Oscars. A real lack of surprises.

I say boring because I know we'll get no reactions from the stars who earned their rewards.

Can't argue with those, Norbit and the I Know Who Killed Me were both turds.

the awards went to two movies? I've seen both and there both god awful. But there where others that deserved awards. There should be more awards maybe. That mirror the golden schmoes maybe. Except the other way around.

Neither have I, but sometimes it's safe to make an assumption.

I actually liked Norbit.

I acknowledge the fact that it was a horrible movie, but I would be lying if I said that I didn't find it funny. Everyone bashes the hell out of this movie, but I thought it was so bad that it was kind of good.

I still can't believe somebody said "You know what would be good.... a sequel to Daddy Day Care". Well deserved win for that mistake of a movie. Speaking of which, I had completely forgotten that Cuba Gooding Jr. won an Oscar until I saw that montage of winners yesterday. He certainly didn't turn that into any sort of worthwhile career.

Worst Director: Chris Siverston for "I Know Who Killed Me"

I'm not sure this is really all that deserved. I mean, yeah, the movie was shit, but it didn't look like shit. I think there were some interesting things in it and it had a nice style to it. It reminded me of Dario Argento in some parts.

Are Razzies really necessary? It's like they pick just one movie to bash the whole night. Don't even try telling me IKWKM was the worst movie of 2007. It was awful, but, c'mon.

I Know Who Killed Me DID deserve the worst director award. Especially for that ending which is so bad it had to be seen to be believed.

On the otherhand, giving Murphy all of those razzies and having Lohan win for worst couple IS going overboard. But that's the razzies for you. They are ALWAYS ridiculous to a spectacular degree.

Read the review on Agony Booth of I Know Who Killed Me and from what I've read the movie deserved every award it got, sadly this is the greatest accomplishment Lohan has had in quite a few years.
