Wassup schmoes and schmoettes!

What are some books that you think should be adapted to film. If you want, post the director that you think would make a great adaptation. Also enter a brief description of the novel if you wish.

Here's a few:

Survivor by Chuck Palahniuk
Directed by Terry Gilliam

Tender Branson, last surviving member of the Creedish Death Cult, is cruising on autopilot, 39,000 feet up, dictating the whole of his life story into Flight 2039's "black box" in the final moments before crashing into the vast Australian outback.

The Stupidest Angel by Christopher Moore
Directed by Joe Dante

Little Joshua Barker is in desperate need of a holiday miracle. No, he's not on his deathbed; no, his dog hasn't run away from home. But Josh is sure that he saw Santa take a shovel to the head, and now the seven-year-old has only one prayer: Please, Santa, come back from the dead.

Roadwork by Stephen King
Directed by Mikael Hċfström

A lone man takes on the wheels of progress in a showdown of cataclysmic proportions. When a highway project puts him out of work and threatens to destroy his home, he has more than enough time on his hands to plot his revenge. Driving his wife and friends away with his obstinate refusal to give in, he pushes the powers-that-be to the limit, taking a stand against what he sees as a criminal act in progress.

Glue by Irvine Welsh
Directed by Danny Boyle

The story of four boys growing up in the Edinburgh projects, Glue is about the loyalties, the experiences, and the secrets that hold friends together through three decades.

My favorite book of all time: The Long Walk

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v67/Bikini_Babe06/0451196716.jpg

Even though The Running Man with Arnold was a slight adaptation, a movie based soley on the book would be beyond fabulous...

And...

Is already being made and should be out in 2009. Eli Roth is directing!!!

Clive Barker's "Imajica" could make an incredible movie, only it wouldn't be accessible and it'd bomb.

"A new two-part fantasy movie is coming out this december."
"OMG PJ!?"
"No. It's based on a novel."
"OMG TOLKIEN!?"
"No. Not . . . Tolkien."
"Lewis?"
"No."
"Rowling?"
"No."
". . . King?"
"No. It's Clive Barker. It's rated R, hard R."
"Oh. Fuck that."

I still want Richard Linklater to get his adaptation of the Dick's UBIK off the ground. And I second big-time on Imajica, but it better be more than one movie. A big-budget miniseries on a premium channel would be the best way for it, really.

Even though the book wasn't flawless, and it was pretty grand in scope, I'd love to see Jonathan Lethem's 'Fortress of Solitude' onscreen. It would take a delicate hand, because it's ultimately a coming-of-age story that just happens to have a super hero/fantasy element to it, but it'd be a good ride. I also want Fincher to do Torso: A True Crime Graphic Novel, about the unsolved Torso Murders in Cleveland.

This was in pre-production - one of the guys from CHUD was working on it (MEG). I think it may have been canceled though. I hope not, because I'd love to see it.

Naturally if it does come out I'm sure all the critics are going to call it "JAWS on Steroids".

I want the Kane books adapted. Roth apparently has one of Kane's short stories optioned, but I don't know if it'll ever be made. To do this right, they'd have to be on the scale of Lord of The Rings (doubtful, but one can dream).

If no one has read these, I highly recommend them.

"Disgraced junkie cop turned apocalyptic antihero Phineas Poe emerges from a psych ward on Christmas Eve and tumbles for beautiful predatory Jude, streetwise assassin turned organ thief. After one night together, she cuts him open, leaves him to fate. Reborn in a bath of ice, Phineas tracks Jude from the back alleys of Denver across the Texas desert for a violent showdown that leaves them on the run to Mexico and the debauched playgrounds of California’s elite. Descend into a nightmare realm where every act of perversion finds willing disciples. Enter a world of brutal blood sport, murderous role play, existential snuff films. Lines between victim and accomplice blur past recognition only to be redrawn according to violent whim. The myth of Orpheus is deconstructed on a razorblade as Phineas and Jude chase each other through a hell of their own making.

PHINEAS POE is equal parts noir romance, revenge fantasy, suicide pact, urban myth exploded, and nihilistic tragedy."

This is a personal favorite, and I wouldn't trust any director other than David Fincher to do this wonderful collection justice.

http://images.amazon.com/images/P/1931561486.01.LZZZZZZZ.jpg
"John Dolan Vincent is a talented young forger with a proclivity for mathematics and drug addiction. In the face of his impending institutionalization, he continually reinvents himself to escape the legal and mental health authorities and to save himself from a life of incarceration. But running turns out to be costly. Vincent's clients in the L.A. underworld lose patience, the hospital evaluator may not be fooled by his story, and the only person in as much danger as himself is the woman who knows his real name."

Amazing read that i could definitely see Christopher Nolan writing a screenplay and directing.

I would love to see a director like P.T. Anderson take a stab at a Vonnegut book. Wes Anderson or the Coens would be interesting too. So far translating Vonnegut to the screen has been a haphazard occurrence. Breakfast of Champions was pretty awful, but in the hands of a director who loves his work or has the ear and feel for his writing it could be golden.

Once again, staying totally true to the book, down to the time frame that the book takes place.

Any substansial tale by Edgar Allen Poe done the way Poe wrote all of his stories; Gothic, clustraphobic and riddled with anxiety and horror.

I've always thought the Martian Chronicles by Ray Bradbury could be made into an incredible movie if someone like Peter Jackson or Steven Spielberg directed it. I would also like to see a version of War of the Worlds that actually takes place in Victorian England.

I read this book when I was in the 7th grade and i thought it was great and if adapted right could make a great film.

http://img294.imageshack.us/img294/8202/iamlegendfx6.jpg

The film was good but its really crap that it's supposed to be I am Legend, but has close to nothing to do with Matheson's novel. I would love to see a film a film adaptation thats faithful to the book. I mean how amazing would Ben Cortman be to see him on screen would be great. maybe Directed by Ridley Scott.

http://img136.imageshack.us/img136/1874/worldwarzei5.jpg

Well I know the World War Z film is underway and I can't wait for that. I absolutely loved the book and can't wait to see the film adaptation which will hopefully be done right. A Xobie Survival guide film would be great and very entertaining. Espescially if the recorded dates of Zombies from the end of the book was also in the film.

I think it's pretty safe to say that Pynchon won't be making the transition to the screen anytime soon, however.
